  1. So, I received an email the other day from Crows Crows Crows, the studio founded by William Pugh, one of the devs who worked on The Stanley Parable. In it, they described an update to The Temple of No, a Twine text adventure they released back in 2016. I have to admit that The Temple of No had flown under my radar at the time, so I thought it would be a great time to hop into the thick of it and see what The Temple of No was all about. Now, I gotta level with you - I have no idea if Crows Crows Crows actually updated the game or if- Wait, no, they actually did update the game. I just went back and did some more due diligence, and there's an bit with a lightbulb and some cleverly concealed scrolling. If you can uncover that secret, you do, in fact, unlock a secret ice level. You can understand my initial confusion, though, right? Like, Crows Crows Crows really know how to mess with expectations and people's heads. They'd probably be able to make a great horror game if they weren't so good at comedy. Anyway, the update is simply called Fire! to reflect the fact that fire is now present in the updated version of The Temple of No! Exciting, right? That's probably why they put an exclamation point after fire. The update even comes with an action-packed live-action trailer - that's TWO actions which means double the action! Look, I don't feel like I have to sell you very hard on this concept. It's free, it'll take up maybe 30 minutes of your time, you'll have a solid selection of laughs and goofs. I swear, it's a good time! And it's free! A good, free time. And there's fire in it now with a new climactic moral decision that probably means something, but whatever.   3. Inkle has made a name for itself in the mobile world with it's branching narrative games. The Sorcery! series wove a tale of blades and blood while 80 Days adapted Jules Verne's Around the World in 80 Days into a choose-your-own-adventure game. All of these were hailed as some of the finest narrative adventures to be had on mobile with 80 Days garnering Time Magazine's game of the year for 2014. Now, they have announced their first project that will head to the PlayStation 4 which will mark their first foray into the realm of consoles. Heaven's Vault stars Aliya Elasra, an archaeologist on a quest to translate a long lost language and unlock the secrets of The Nebula, a collection of far-flung moons. With the help of her robo-buddy Six, Aliya and the player are free to navigate through The Nebula and pursue its various mysteries. The central hook of Heaven's Vault centers on the translation of the alien script. Using context clues in the environment and some imagination, players will be able to come up with a variety of meanings for the symbols they encounter in various ruins across The Nebula. Every interpretation Aliya makes will have consequences, branching the story with each attempt to decipher what significance the ancient ruins might have once held. Inkle has stated that part of the game will be never being sure that your translation is the correct one. Heaven's Vault will also feature a large cast of characters who react to the different interpretations Aliya makes and also how she interacts with them. These characters are capable of kindness, cruelty, and guile. They'll remember if she's a thief or a liar or if she treats them well.   5. For All To Play has taken to Kickstarter to fund their development of a game with no need for visuals, Grail to the Thief: An Interactive Audio Adventure. Designed to be played and enjoyed by both the visually impaired and ocularly enabled, Grail to the Thief is a text adventure that conveys all of its information in an audio format. All dialogue is voiced, while sound effects, music, and ambient sound convey additional details about the in-game environment. Grail to the Thief iterates on the traditional text adventure formula by giving players access to a number of options in any given scenario. This eliminates the tedium and frustration of experimenting with typed commands and allows players to enjoy the story, which draws inspiration from the likes of Zork, The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy, and the movie Time Bandits. I could try and summarize the plot, but I'll let the developers do it for me in their own words: The game stars Hank Krang, a dirty thief from the near future, who recently had a self-aware time machine called the Time Excursion Digital Interface, or TEDI, fall into his lap after a poker game. He has decided to use this technology to go throughout time, stealing priceless artifacts. On his first adventure, Grail to the Thief, Hank travels to Arthurian times in search of the Holy Grail. Now if that isn't a plot I can get behind, I don't know what is. Grail to the Thief, if fully funded in the next 25 days will be released on PC, Mac OS X, and Linux, with stretch goals for mobile, a playable female character, and Spanish localization. Interested parties can play a prototype of Grail to the Thief in either Chrome or Opera web browsers by following the link foralltoplay.com/prototype. To support pledge money in support of the project, head over to their Kickstarter page. It is amazing to see how far games have come in recent years with more projects being undertaken to accommodate players who might not otherwise be able to play and enjoy games. Hopefully, we will be seeing more games take less able gamers into account as we move forward as an industry.

With a script written by series author Douglas Adams and a storyline at times both difficult and bizarre, the BBC has decided to release the award-winning text-based game online. This updated classic will feature new visuals in high-definition. Additionally, the 30th anniversary edition will allow users to share their achievements with friends via the official Twitter feed. People will be able to play the latest version on the BBC Radio 4 Extra website beginning March 8.
