  1. Rooster Teeth was honored with the naming of a mental health healing garden at the children’s hospital it has pledged to raise $3M. Rooster Teeth raised $1.2 million for Dell Children’s Medical Center of Central Texas with Extra Life in 2017. Through the Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals digital fundraising platform, fans donated more than $770,000 which Rooster Teeth matched in addition to donated funds from merchandise sales. To recognize this pledge to raise $3 million, Dell Children’s is naming its new healing garden in its mental health wing in honor of the Austin based company. This is the first naming opportunity for a CMN Hospitals program at the children’s hospital. 1 in 5 children ages 13-18 have or will have a serious mental illness which includes mood disorders, anxiety disorders and developmental disorders like autism spectrum disorder. The garden will be a part of a unit at Dell Children’s that includes 24 beds as well as an intensive outpatient program. To all of the fans, friends and family that have supported Rooster Teeth in their Extra Life endeavors over the years, thank you! You are making a difference to sick and injured kids at Children's Miracle Network Hospitals.

    Unimaginable Achievement, Unlocked!

It might seem an obvious choice to write a blog with the intent of “giving thanks” as we wrap up the Thanksgiving holiday here in the States last week, but when you're fortunate enough to have a community like the Extra Life community, we feel it’s an honor and privilege to do so. You see, a couple weeks ago, we witnessed something happen in the Extra Life community that we had a hard time even imagining. We watched a single Extra Life team raise over $1 million #ForTheKids… in 24-hours. In fact, we watched them raise over $1.2 million! Team Rooster Teeth, led by the fearless Jack Pattillo and Caiti Ward, hosted their 7th Extra Life marathon over the years, full of antics and crazy shenanigans, to raise money for children and their families who desperately need your support. To simply state that we’re thankful for Jack Pattillo, Caiti Ward and everyone over at Rooster Teeth team would be grossly understating who they are and the role they’ve played in growing the Extra Life community to become a force for good for Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals. Since 2010, Rooster Teeth has enlisted nearly 11,000 of their fans into the Extra Life community and together, have raised an astonishing $3.5+ million dollars for 155 different Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals (that’s just over 90% of our member hospitals) across the US and Canada. You can understand that when we see someone use #RTEXTRALIFE, we know they’re serious about playing games and healing kids. We know that the Rooster Teeth gang does some pretty, well, unorthodox things for donations. But this year we wanted to be sure note this ultimate “awwww cute” highlight. The Rooster Teeth community is in it for the long haul as the company has pledged to raise $3 million for Dell Children’s Hospital in Austin, TX to help pay for a new mental health wing so kids with mental illnesses will have a special place to be treated. The new mental health wing at Dell Children’s will have a healing garden that provides a place for the kids to play, relax and recharge during their stay and treatment in the hospital and will be properly named the “Rooster Teeth Healing Garden”! As we recall the time spent with family and friends last week we are reminded of the love and enthusiasm that powers Extra Life. We are grateful for Rooster Teeth, Jack, Caiti and the thousands of people who’ve watched, shared, participated and donated to Extra Life, supporting and improving the lives of families in their own and other’s communities. This love and enthusiasm that powers Extra Life continues to amaze all of us here at Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals. On behalf of our hospitals and kids receiving treatment and care, thank you. Announcing Super Teams

Super Teams are HERE! We are very excited to announce the launch of Super Teams! This new feature presents a way for incredibly large, user-driven teams like Twitch or Rooster Teeth to give their communities more identity and tools to mobilize more effectively. “What are Super Teams?” I hear you ask. Good question! Basically, a Super Team is one large team composed of many smaller teams. You can kind of think of it as the Extra Life equivalent of inception, except, you know, with teams. Team-ception! We are rolling out Super Teams for the following community partners during the initial test run: (Currently with 659 players and 48 sub-teams) (Currently with 260 players and 16 sub-teams) (Currently with 139 players and 1 sub-team) (Currently with 128 players and 18 sub-teams) This new form of team will help large teams break up into more personalized sub-teams while remaining under the umbrella of their organization and contributing to the collective Super Team fundraising goal. For example, if you were feeling lost in the crowd as part of a massive team like Reddit last year, you can now create your own sub-team within the Reddit Super Team or join a specific subreddit sub-team (and then eat a delicious sub sandwich). We see Super Teams as a win for both our larger community partners and the Extra Lifers within those extensive communities who can now organize more effectively in their social circles. The new team structure aims to facilitate community building on a larger scale than was possible for the incredibly massive teams that have participated in years past. Want to Join a Super Team? If you are wondering how to get involved in a sub-team, creating or joining one couldn’t be easier. All you have to do is head over to one of the Super Team pages and browse the existing sub-teams or click the ‘Create a Sub-Team’ button to start the process. If you have no interest in the sub-teams and just want to join the Super Team’s core team, that’s still a valid option, too! If you’ve already created a team and want to merge it into an existing sub-team, fill out this form and we’ll have your team moved over as soon as we can. Looking toward 2017 and beyond, Super Teams will be an option available to community partners. We have a vision of Super Teams uniting major companies and industry giants across the United States and Canada to harness their reach for the kids in hospitals who can’t help themselves. Comment below and tell us what Super Teams you would like to see join!

Gaming for Good: How gamers are changing their world for the better. Popular media portrayals of gamers and the gaming industry are usually filled with images of misguided youth and social outcasts engaged in a violet, hyper-sexualized subculture that is creating an introverted and narcissistic society. In truth gamers are a mainstream force for good; raising tens of millions of dollars each year for a variety of causes. And they show no signs of slowing down. Join Extra Life founder, Jeromy Adams and Community Manager Rick Heaton for an informative session on how Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals through their Extra Life program have tapped into this incredibly caring and compassionate community to raise funds for sick and injured children throughout the U.S and Canada. RTX 2015 Saturday August 8 @ 11:30AM HILTON Room 406 500 E. 4th Street, Austin TX 78701 Please note: an RSVP here does not guarantee entry. Seating is first come, first served.
