Once again, ReplayFX is generously welcoming the Extra Life Pittsburgh Guild to further our mission of outreach and recruitment. Now in it's 3rd year, the ReplayFX Arcade & Video Game Festival brings a classic arcade experience to the DLLCC. The largest public collection of working pinball, arcade, tabletop, and console games anywhere in the solar system will be free to play with the price of admission! In addition, you can attend gaming and tech culture seminars all weekend, browse their well stocked marketplace, or enjoy a series of fun and wacky daily challenges. Plus, this is the only place to watch the world’s greatest pinball wizards compete in the Pinburgh Match-Play Championship. Live musical performances, a high-energy cosplay contest, inflatable obstacle courses, and more in a show floor packed with over 200,000 square feet of entertainment! Whether you're a competitive champ, or a casual player, this family friendly event promises to have something for everyone. If you are interested in volunteering to help us at this event, please PM me.
  2. Hamster Corporation has slowly been making a name for themselves as a company that brings old games to new consoles. The past several months have seen the company bringing a number of high profile titles to PS4, Xbox One, Switch, and PC. The ongoing project to make these older games compatible began in 2014 with the release of Rygar to test the market and has only gained steam in subsequent years. The full list of games that will be available by the beginning of April of this year has reached over 70 titles. It's a pretty great slice of gaming history that stretches from 1980 to 2000. A subset of those games belong to the ACA Neo Geo series, an effort to remaster and emulate games from the Neo Geo. Seems pretty standard, right? Well, the neat thing about the ACA Neo Geo series is that the games emulate the arcade cabinet versions of gems like King of Fighters, Metal Slug, and Fatal Fury, rather than the console version as past re-releases have done. If you're looking to get in touch with gaming's roots, these might be the perfect place to start without having to scour eBay for expensive, old systems and games.

  4. Sega is releasing a free update via Steam to all of its Mega Drive and Genesis titles that creates a new virtual hub that collects over 50 classic titles in one digital room. The hub recreates an early 90s bedroom complete with dynamic time-of-day conditions, Sega-themed decorations, a CRT TV, and a shelf that holds all your Sega Mega Drive and Genesis titles. Not only that, but the hub update brings some long desired features to these classic titles. Sega's retro titles will feature spot-on emulation, local co-op for games that originally supported it, options for graphical enhancements, the ability to save any time, and full controller and keyboard support. The full list of supported games can be found on Sega's announcement, but some of the highlights are Golden Axe, Altered Beast, Ecco the Dolphin, Virtua Fighter 2, Shining Force, Gunstar Heroes, Phantasy Star II-IV, Sonic the Hedgehog 1-3, and many more. Perhaps most importantly, Sega will be integrating full Steam Workshop support to allow for open modding of its retro titles. Honestly, we can't wait to see what the modding community will do with support from Sega like this! The update hits this Thursday, April 28. View full article
