  1. We haven't heard much about the remaster of the PlayStation 1 since its announcement at PSX late last year. The title is expected to be a full, top-to-bottom revamp along the same lines as the Crash Bandicoots and Spyros that are all the rage these days, complete with new assets and up to 4K resolution support. In a recent appearance on PlayStation Blogcast, Sid Shuman, Sony's social media director, revealed that the company expects the MediEvil remake to release "in the next week or so." This likely puts the game on track for release near Halloween, if not the day of everyone's favorite spooky holiday. Shuman also said that the head of worldwide studios at Sony, Shawn Layden, would be making an announcement soon on the podcast, so we will likely be hearing more concrete details in the days to come. RIP easily, friends, it appears Sir Dan will be returning from the grave quite soon. 3. Lucas Pope, the dev behind the highly acclaimed indie title Papers, Please, brings us Return of the Obra Dinn. Enter a high seas murder mystery set in the 1807 when everything was black and white and made of pixels. As an insurance inspector armed with a mystical assessment tool, players are dispatched to investigate the Obra Dinn, a ship believed to have been lost at sea for five years. What has the ship been doing in its years at sea? What happened to the ship's company? Why has the vessel just sailed back into the port at Falmouth, seemingly under its own power without any crew? To answer all of these questions and solve the mysteries of the Obra Dinn, players have a watch-like device that has the ability to replay the scenarios surrounding an individual's death. Players will have to make clever use of the device's abilities to access new areas of the ship and, as befits an insurance investigator, identify the remains of each member of the crew, how they died, and who, if anyone, killed them. Almost four years ago, I gave my thoughts on a preview build of Return of the Obra Dinn. It wasn't a long build, but it left a lasting impression. The haunting visuals and beckoning mystery don't leave you easily. And now, Return of the Obra Dinn has silently sailed into the harbor of digital PC storefronts - check it out if you're looking for a gameplay experience like you've never had before. 5. The reboot of XCOM from 2012 was released simultaneously for PC, Xbox 360, and PS3. That set up certain expectations for the release of XCOM 2. However, When XCOM 2 released this past February console players were left scratching their heads by the fact that it launched exclusively for PC with no console versions even confirmed to be in the works. Since then, thankfully, console versions of the popular turn-based-strategy game were revealed. Copies of XCOM 2 are now available in stores and as downloadable titles for Xbox One and PS4. Now console players can experience the tense action of leading a ragtag resistance movement against alien occupation that might be up to more than it lets on. Interested in learning more about XCOM 2? We reviewed the PC version back in February - check it out! View full article

  7. "When you play the game of thrones, you win or you die. There is no middle ground." - Cersei Lannister Much like last month's first episode of Tales from the Borderlands, the first installment of Telltale's six part Game of Thrones series quietly launched today. The story follows members of House Forrester, a noble family that has fallen into a precarious position during the War of the Five Kings. In terms of continuity with the HBO show, the game takes place roughly around the end of Season Three and continues until the beginning of Season Five. The press release also notes that several actors will be reprising their roles from the show for the game, including Peter Dinklage, Lena Headey, Natalie Dormer, and Iwan Rheon. Telltale hints that additional cast members could be appearing in later episodes. Iron from Ice is available now for PC, Mac, and PlayStation 4. It will be releasing on Xbox One and Xbox 360 this Wednesday. This Thursday the iOS version will make its way to the App Store, while an Android version will become available sometime later this month.

  9. Telltale snuck the first episode of their Borderlands series into digital stores today along with a brand-spankin'-new trailer that shows off some of the over-the-top situations players can expect to encounter. The Telltale Game of Thrones title is slated for release sometime next month, too. Maybe we should expect another sneaky release in December?

  11. Earth Defense Force 2025, the latest installment in a series that has accumulated somewhat of a cult following after the 2007 release of Earth Defense Force 2017, received an amazing trailer today along with an official release date. The teaser shows off footage from 2017, before giving a run down of the features and weapons being added to the roster. In short, it is a lot. 2025 will include 4 player co-op, the class-based gameplay from Earth Defense Force: Insect Armageddon returns (albeit with more style), more weapons including melee options for the Fencer class, more vehicles, and new enemy types such as the flying dragons featured in the trailer. The trailer even implies that there might be some degree of characterization for the four main protagonists, a first for the series. Earth Defense Force 2025 will be available on February 18 for Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3. If you are wondering what the game is like, why not read our hands-on coverage of the game from E3?
