ECGC is coming up at the Raleigh Convention Center and we NEED VOLUNTEERS!!! This is a day-time event during the week (Tuesday-Thursday). Please let me know if you can help out for a few hours!
  4. First off… My apologies for failing to create the proper calendar events for the meeting. I just assumed the EventBrite emails were enough to let everyone know about the kickoff meeting. Here are the meeting notes from Tuesday’s monthly meeting. Participants Kelly, Marcus, Steven, Andrew, Ross, Chris, Sarah, Missy, Jimmy, Tyler, Quauhtli, Nan, Charlie, Krista, Erin, Brendan, Hana (new attendees in bold!!) Guild Kickoff Leadership: President – Ross Ledford; Vice President – Marcus Summers; Secretary – Steven Sober Hospital Representatives: Keri Christianson, Kelly Partner (covering why Keri is on maternity leave) Marcus gave a short presentation on what the guild is and how it functions in conjunction with the overall Extra Life effort. Fundraising/Recruitment Update Recruitment Recap: 2014: Goal – 400; Actual – 670 2015: Goal – 450; Actual – 625 2016: Goal – 751; Actual – 652 2017: Goal – 750; YTD – 107 Fundraising Recap: 2014: $46,415 2015: $92,135 2016: Goal - $110K; Actual - $111, 284 2017: Goal - $125K; YTD - $4,853 Extra Life Overall Fundraising: 2014: $6,100,000 2015: $8,361,187 2016: $9,695,148 -$30M overall!!! Extra Life United I gave a presentation summarizing ELU this year. United is an Extra Life event that coincides with the Children’s Miracle Network Annual Momentum convention. Along with sponsors and supporters, one CMN child from each state, Puerto Rico, and Canadian province are chosen as “champions” to attend with their families. I had the opportunity to meet some of these inspirational kids, watch them in a medal ceremony, and even play some video games with them. The Extra Lifers attending ELU participate in a two-day tournament sponsored by Twitch with an assist from Microsoft. There were 12 games total (six video games and six board games) and each participant could compete in six games total. There was a prize pool of $150K plus an extra $10K from Microsoft that players could earn towards their designated CMN hospital. (I won $100 playing Rocket League for Duke!) Recent Events Summary (I don’t remember us covering these in the meeting but just for kicks here they are…) Playthrough Gaming Convention – Held in late February. I’m not sure how many signups but fun times! Oak City ComicCon – Held in mid-March. Again, a lot of fun but I don’t have an exact signup number. Last Month Action Items The first friendly reminder to sign up for this year’s campaign, and customize your donation page with a picture and story about why you participate in Extra Life. You can set up schedules to post to Twitter and Facebook automatically. Hospital Update Kelly shared a story and video about how Duke Children’s is using 3D printers to map out intense MRI images of patient hearts. The technology is being used to build 3D heart models (some as small as a dime) of each patient’s unique heart to study and analyze vessels and flow in order to decide the best course of action or surgery. The 3D models shown in the video were very cool!! Future Events April 18-20 – East Coast Games Conference – This is held during the day time. Anyone who is interested and available to volunteer PLEASE let us know in the forums or Facebook!! It's less than a month to go until game-day! Can you believe it!? Time for us to sign up as many people as we can in October! The fine people of the Downtown Cary Food have asked us to be a part of their event. Downtown Cary Food & Flea is a community market that features local fine artists, craft makers, vintage finds, local craft beer, edible goods, music, food trucks and more. We've never attended an event in Cary before, so let's sign up those gamers! Date: 10/9/16 Time: 11AM - 4:30 PM Location: 200 S Academy St, Cary, NC 27511 The market officially starts at noon, so we need a couple of people to come help set up the tent and recruitment table at 11am. Please let us know if you can help and RSVP as soon as possible! Hope to see you there! Unfortunately, I just received word that this event has been canceled by the organizers. Bummer!

It's that time of month again! Time for our monthly meeting! Once again, due to my chaotic work schedule, we have to move this meeting to WEDNESDAY, NOT TUESDAY! Due to popular demand, we'll also be returning to The Flying Burrito. Date: 10/5/16 - WEDNESDAY! Time: 7PM - 9PM Location: The Flying Burrito - 4800 Grove Barton Rd #106, Raleigh, NC 27613 This meeting will mark exactly a month before game-day, so please make sure you have your donation page ready to go! This means it's personalized with your own message, not the default text that appears. This is very important to our fundraising. People are much more likely to donate if they know exactly why you're involved in the program! Don't worry, I'll be calling people out like our last meeting! Hope to see everyone there!

It's time for our monthly tournament with Boxcar Bar + Arcade! This month, due to popular demand at the bar, we'll be hosting a Mario Kart 64 Tournament! As before, the bracket portion of the tournament will take place in the rear of the bar on the consoles, with the final matches taking place on the Mario Kart GP arcade cabinet. Prizes are available and guild members can even participate! We're currently looking for a couple of people to help with the brackets, explain the Extra Life program to participants and sign people up to play for Duke Children's Hospital. Please let us know if you can come help out! Date: 9/27/16 Time: 7:30pm - 10:30pm Location: Boxcar Bar + Arcade -330 W Davie St, Raleigh, NC 27601

Fall may be on it's way, but the weather is still perfect for catching Pokemon! Erin and her crew from TriangleGameNight.com have invited the guild to be part of their next Pokemon Go walk, Pokemon Go: A NCMA Adventure. Their last walk at Crabtree Mall was hugely successful, so it seems like the perfect opportunity to sign up some local gamers to play for Duke Children's Hospital. Erin will be dropping lures at all of the many Pokestops by the museum walking paths and even giving out a prize for the biggest Pokemon caught that day. So bring your fully charged phone and come enjoy the day! We are currently looking for one or two people to set up a very simple recruitment table in the parking lot to sign people up. We'll also be using our RDU gym badges as in incentive to people to register. Please let us know if you can help out! Should be a great evening! Date: 9/18/6 Time: 4:30pm - 7pm Location: North Carolina Museum of Art - 2110 Blue Ridge Rd, Raleigh, NC 27607

It's the first day of classes for NC State freshman! During their first few days, many of the university's clubs and charity organizations will be setting up tables to welcome students and inform them of various opportunities around campus and town. This is a great opportunity for us to inform new students about Extra Life and get them signed up to help play for Duke Children's Hospital. Our guild member, Ross Ledford has invited us to be a part of the day. Ross is the President of the NC-State E-Sports Club and expects a huge amount of interest in Extra Life. Our very own @MajorLinux will be in attendance to set up a live stream throughout the day. Other than that, we'll be doing our usual recruitment! This is going to be a rather long day, so we need as many volunteers as possible so we can hopefully split up the work. Please let us know if you can attend and help out! Date: August 17th Time: 8am - 5pm Location: DH Hill Library - 2 W Broughton Dr, Raleigh, NC 27695

    First Friday

The Raleigh Times has invited us to be a part of their monthly First Friday celebration on the evening of August 5th! You may remember that our recruitment event with them two years ago was one of our more successful. This is a great opportunity to get a ton of people signed up to help the kids at Duke Children's Hospital. Let's do it! Date: August 5th, 2016 Time: 6PM load-in, event runs from 7PM-11PM Location: Raleigh Times - 14 E Hargett St, Raleigh, NC 27601 We'll be running multiple video game demos, but otherwise, this will be focused completely on recruitment, so be ready to talk to members of the public and explain the Extra Life program to them. Ideally, we could use at least four people to help out. Please let us know ASAP! It's going to be a big one! See you there!

  19. Here are the meeting notes from Tuesday’s monthly meeting. Participants Andrew, Keri, Jimmy, Marcus, Sam (@SpectreSam), me (and a brief appearance from Elijah!) Fundraising/Recruitment Update $44,300 for Duke Children’s so far (majority from YouTubers) towards $110K goal! Guild: $766 towards $15K goal! Total Signups for 2016 – 182 of 751 goal Currently ranked 13th of 150 guilds for signups (and only 22 behind # 10 St. Louis!) Recent Events Summary Boxcar “Drink for a Cause” Night – (Andrew, Marcus, Jimmy, Jason) – Street Fighter Tournament Boxcar donated 15% to Extra Life (~$500!!) GOUGE Wrestling Microsoft Tournament between stores (Marcus attended) Apparently there was way more demand for participation then MS was prepared for… Greensboro Smash Tournament – (Marcus, Jimmy, Justin) - 15 Signups Boxcar Smash Tournament – May 11th – A few people helped out with this event. 31 New Signups total since last month’s meeting! Hospital Update The development office had a recent guest speaker named Dr. Mike Kastan. He is involved with all things cancer research at Duke. He explained a new research initiative where dogs who have already been diagnosed with cancer and whose owners are looking for treatment options can be enrolled in clinical trials. Dogs provide better results than lab mice, live in a similar environment to humans (versus a cage for mice), and are already diagnosed. Cancer is a disease that becomes more prominent the older we get, and more than five million dogs are diagnosed each year (and about one million receive some type of treatment). Some breeds are even susceptible to specific forms of cancer. Dr. Kastan also noted that while it can take up to 10 years to validate new medications using lab mice, the dog research can improve that time table to closer to one year! There was a recent event at the hospital where a group of cosplayers hosted by Ultimate Comics and NC ComicCon visited the kids. The NC SpiderMan also made an appearance. Future Events Boxcar- Extra Life is now an official partner! “Drink for a Cause” Nights – We will be involved with these every other month. Monthly Tournaments – We will be hosted one each month. Plan is to do a Mortal Kombat tournament late this month or early July. Rocket League was also discussed as a possibility! June 12th – Downtown Cary Food & Flea Market – Looking into this as a possibility. June 13th – Sony E3 Experience at Brier Creek Cinemas – No luck here due to corporate rules. July 30th – Hearthstone Fireside Gathering @ Atomic Empire – Official upcoming event (huge thanks to Justin (@I-ninja) and Pete (@NC_Villan) for setting this up!!!) First Friday - Looking into having a tent again in July. Miscellaneous 12-Hour Mini Marathon @ Kramden – This has been scheduled for Saturday, July 9th (assuming Kramden’s approval of course!) The annual T-Shirt Design Contest has a winner! You can see the logo here: https://www.facebook.com/ExtraLife4Kids/posts/10156901324285335:0 Thankfully the higher ups listened to feedback and decided to use black shirts instead of white. This was part of the May Recap email you may have received recently. The Playstation 2016 Road to Greatness Contest is under way! http://blog.us.playstation.com/2016/06/06/my-road-to-greatness-2016-contest-starts-today/ Andrew thinks we should band together and create a video entry to have them visit the RDU Guild! That’s it guys and girls! As always feel free to comment if you have questions or concerns!! Thanks! Steven

    May Meeting

It's time for our May meeting! Due to having to pay for electricity at our recent East Coast Game Conference, there will be no free pizza at this meeting. Because of this, we've decided to hold the meeting at Level-Up in downtown Raleigh again. This way, we can order our own food for dinner and also have the benefit of playing their arcade games! Location: Level Up Kitchen + Barcadium - 126 S. Salisbury St. Raleigh, NC 27603 Time: 7pm - 9pm We'll be recapping all of our recruitment events in April, discussing some upcoming changes in social media, how to easily keep up with the forums and brainstorming some ideas for events in the coming months. Hope to see you all there! Get excited...just like our Vice President!
