On Tuesday we held our monthly meeting at Level Up. Attendance was down due to heavy storms plus the Beyonce concert at Carter-Finley… Here are the meeting notes! Participants Andrew Nicol ( @AndrewRDU ), Pete Waterhouse ( @NC_Villan ), Marcus Summers ( @MajorLinux ), Steven Sober ( @SobeDog007 ), Jason Jacoby ( @itsjacobes ), Jimmy Farrow Recent Events Summary Oak City Comic Con – 20 Signups East Coast Games Conference – 28 Signups St. Baldricks – 6 Signups Andrew and Jason shaved their heads and raised $400! Overall $45000 was raised for pediatric cancer research!! Total Signups for 2016 – 151 of 751 goal Fundraising Update $41580 for Duke Children’s so far (majority from YouTubers) towards $110K goal for 2016! Currently the 3rd highest total among CMN Hospitals! General Information Facebook Group is still going to disappear but no official date set yet. There is a very helpful guide written by Andrew that explains setting up notifications for the EL forums area! Attention streamers! The official Extra Life channel has tons of openings for anyone interested in streaming to all EL Twitch followers! http://community.extra-life.org/forums/topic/2833-join-the-official-extra-life-stream-team/ The annual T-Shirt Design Contest is under way! http://community.extra-life.org/forums/topic/4164-contestwin-a-trip-to-e3-2016-by-designing-this-years-platinum-t-shirt/ Brainstorming for Possible Future Events Boxcar – Trying to have events on a regular basis with hopefully some proceeds going to the charity (Andrew). He is meeting soon with the event coordinator for their “Drink for a Cause” nights. GOUGE Wrestling – There is an event on 5/14 (Andrew). Microsoft Store – Officially partnered with EL now; Events/tournaments are being planned starting on 5/22. Trying to reach out to Blizzard about hosting a local Hearthstone tournament (Pete/Justin). Smash Tournament – 5/21-5/22 in Greensboro - Talk of expanding and looking for other possible events/contacts in the area (Marcus). (Non-Business) Planning another 12-hour event at Kramden for mid-July (Steven/Jimmy). Main Event 2016 It looks like we have found a venue for the main event this year. Here is a summary in Andrew’s own words: “Speaking of, the big news of the night came from Justin. He told us that they’ve negotiated a venue for their “Smash For Life” (Hopefully temporarily renamed to “Smash For Extra Life”). Their event is essentially the same thing as Extra Life - gaming for 24 hours straight. They’ve picked a new charity every year and this year they want to partner with us. You may remember that I toured the venue with Justin and Ross last month. They’ve got the venue booked for November 5th and will be donating all the proceeds to the hospital. They are expecting 250-300 attendees in addition to whatever we bring in. The space is massive and has Gigabit internet. All good stuff! A big relief honestly that we don’t need to search for a venue later in the year. Now we can focus on nothing but recruitment and hopefully getting some of the gaming studios involved! :) “ Huge thanks to Justin for helping get this partnership up and going!!! Rick Heaton (Sapience) has left his role as Community Manager. Liz Aponte (DJThunderStix) and Mike Kinney (LeaveIt2Beaver) will be leading the overall vision of Extra Life. Leadership Changes - RDU Guild Huge thanks to Pete Waterhouse ( @NC_Villan ) for his secretarial efforts in 2015 (and for becoming a father)!!! Welcome to our new secretary... FB Group to be phased out - Not concrete date, but more than likely, come May, the FB group will be deleted. All communication will be done on the forums. This will effect all guilds, in-fact the recently launched guilds didn't receive one at all. This means that the forums will be even more important this year. Recruitment app for iOS + Android.
