  1. The release of Prey is little over a month away and the hype machine has begun to chug along at full speed. As part of a PR push for Prey, Bethesda and Gamestop have organized a science-fiction film festival with Alamo Drafthouse featuring a selection of classic movies that inspired the development team behind Prey. The Inspirations of Prey - Film Fest begins on April 4 and runs until April 27. These events will take place at Alamo Drafthouse theater locations around Texas, California, Colorado, Virginia, and New York. Each week a new film will be shown. The line-up consists of MOON, Starship Troopers, Total Recall, and The Matrix. Each ticket for a screening comes with a poster from Mondo, a slick graphic design company that approaches pop-culture with an artistic eye. You can see if the festival will be coming to a location near you and buy tickets on the Alamo Drafthouse website. On top of that, there will be small events at the theaters from iam8bit and Gamestop that will give attendees the opportunity to play Prey before release. These special fan events are happening at the locations and times below: Austin at the Alamo Drafthouse – South Lamar at The Highball Tuesday, April 4 5pm San Francisco at the Alamo Drafthouse Cinema – New Mission at Bear vs Bull Tuesday, April 11 5pm New York at the Alamo Drafthouse Cinema – City Point at House of Wax Wednesday, April 19 5pm Los Angeles at The Regent Theater Tuesday, April 25 9pm These events will require an RSVP beforehand, which you can do here, and admission is not guaranteed, so get there early if you plan on going. Prey releases on May 5 for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC. View full article

  3. New Japanese commercials for Pokémon Sun and Pokémon Moon have surfaced online that depict Usain Bolt in the world of Pokémon. The Olympic gold medalist from Jamaica, whose nickname is "Lightning Bolt," makes an appearance in the set of commercials alongside series mascot Pikachu. The record-holding speed demon wears the clothes of Team Skull, the bumbling villains of the latest Pokémon cycle while digital models from the game mimic his motions. Usain Bolt admitted in an interview last year that he loves playing video games. In fact, he's an avid Call of Duty player who plays the series to help wind down at the end of the day as part of his evening ritual, "my evening routine is usually just me playing Call Of Duty. I'm OK at it." It looks like Lightning Bolt must have a bit of a soft spot in his heart for the Pokémon series as well. View full article

  7. The latest generation of Pokémon are almost upon us! Nintendo has released a new look at the characters and legendary Pokémon of the two new companion titles. Pokémon Sun features Solgaleo, a steel and psychic type, as its legendary Pokémon. Armed with a Sunsteel Strike that packs a wallop, Solgaleo is a lionesque Pokémon with a flowing metal exterior. As an emissary of light, the people of Alola refer to Solgaleo as "the beast that devours the sun." The sun lion's defensive ability, called Full Metal Body, prevents Solgaleo's stats from being altered by enemy abilities or attacks. Pokémon Moon's Lunala represents the power of the moon as a psychic/ghost type. Known as "the beast that calls the moon," Lunala can unleash a devastating attack called Moongeist that harnesses the true power of the moon. It's inherent ability is called Shadow Shield that blocks a significant portion of damage when hit by an attack at full HP. We are also introduced to a few of the primary characters in the upcoming games. Professor Kukui takes on the role of resident Pokémon expert with the help of his assistant Lillie, a girl who has a past that could become important sometime during the games' storyline. The trailer also reveals Hau, the player's primary friend in Alola. Also, I guess the new Pokédex is now a Pokémon? Possessed by a Rotom, the new Pokédex truly bridges the gap between humans and Pokémon. Pokémon Sun and Moon will be available on 3DS later this year on November 18.
