  1. There will also be an open beta beginning May 19. Who else is ready to throw down fisticuffs with the heroes and villains from across Blizzard's history? At launch, Heroes of the Storm will contain over thirty playable characters and seven different battlefields. Each battleground will be unique with different goals and challenges. Post-launch, players can expect to see more heroes and maps being added, along with a variety of skins and mounts. The open beta will follow the conclusion of the Heroes of the Dorm collegiate eSports tournament. Students from over 400 schools will be participating with hundreds of thousands of dollars in tuition on the line. The championship will be held on April 26 at the Shrine Auditorium and Expo Hall in LA. It will also be televised live in prime time on ESPN. More details should be available as the event approaches. Heroes of the Storm will be launching on June 2 for PC. Don't forget to sign up for Extra Life to help sick and injured kids in hospitals around the US and Canada by playing games!
  2. Hey all! I love to play competitive video games such as League of Legends, Overwatch, Hearthstone, Heroes of the Storm, CS:GO, and so forth. I'm ranked pretty high in each game and was looking to see if we could start up an ExtraLife themed team where we could compete either in local events, or online events, and call it ExtraLife. It would probably gain some notoriety with the scene, and cause gamers to search for what ExtraLife is and such. And if we attended the same type of lan events, I'm sure people would sign up once they meet us. I'm a local around Philadelphia, PA and would love to even get some online events going. Here are a list of the games I play, and a way to contact me: 1. League of Legends - Diamond 4 Support / Top Main 2. Overwatch - Master Tier - Season 3 Ended 3800 MR, Season 4 is currently 3650. 3. Hearthstone - I normally end up around Rank 2-3, but I know there are a lot of tournaments held online for points. 4. CS:GO - Haven't played in a year or two, I was LEM before I stopped. If I had a team I could get back into it for Extra Life 5. Heroes of the Storm - Just started but I am well versatile in MOBAs and am trying to get to ranked now. 6. I also play Smash Brothers Melee in tournaments from time to time. You can contact me on: Battlenet - Clementine#11594 Steam ID - I'll modify this when I get home and get it You can always drop me a message on the forums as well. This is just an idea I had, If anyone is interested in getting a following together, it would be great and super fun! We could even stream our tournament matches, make some vods and get some publicity out there in the gaming world!
  3. Probes. If you've played StarCraft at any point, chances are you've heard the Protoss construction units yammering about how you need more pylons. While that phrase might become irritating, there has always been something endearing about the little golden orbs. Their design feels inviting and they perform a vital function to the gameplay of StarCraft. Now, that function will carry over into the world of Blizzard's MOBA, Heroes of the Storm. Probius, the most heroic of all Protoss probes, might be a bit underwhelming at first glance, but he can pack quite a punch if played right. The hero can construct pylons and photon turrets to protect areas and deal damage while also shooting energy himself. The pylons help Probius regenerate mana for his abilities and provide power for the turrets. The little guy can also create unstable warp rifts that slow enemies and deal damage. His ultimate abilities can either turn pylons into turrets themselves or project a field of negative energy that slows and damages all who enter it. The description of Probius has led some StarCraft fans to the conclusion that Probius isn't just a random probe that Blizzard slapped a name onto and threw into Heroes of the Storm. Part of his background mentions that, "[Probius] may be small, but he made a big difference by warping in a critical pylon during the retaking of Aiur." There's only one key moment that most fans are familiar with that fits that event and it occurs in the intro cinematic for StarCraft II: Legacy of the Void. One probe single-handedly turns the tide of battle to establish a Protoss foothold on their conquered home world.

  6. Trailers for Blizzard's upcoming MOBA Heroes of the Storm, World of Warcraft: Warlords of Draenor, and Diablo III: Reaper of Souls have appeared online and beg for you to look at them with your face. Tell me if you have heard this one before: An angel, a space marine, and an assassin walk into a desert and run into a lich king, an alien, and the devil... then they fight! While that might not make a very funny joke, it does make a pretty flippin' awesome trailer, especially when it is made by Blizzard, who have pretty much cornered the market on flippin' awesome cinematics. I'm pretty hopeful that Heroes of the Storm will turn out well. With great examples of how to develop and run successful MOBA titles in League of Legends and Dota 2 and Blizzard's tendency to support titles for long periods of time, I can't really see how they could botch an attempt to create a successful MOBA. Time, of course, will be the judge, but I have faith that Blizzard can deliver. BlizzCon was also a perfect time to announce a new World of Warcraft expansion that uses time travel to revisit ground covered in the original Warcraft titles, as well as implementing a slew of new features. Warlords of Draenor will overhaul the character models, up the level cap to 100, provide new PvP zones, add new monsters, dungeons, and raids, and the ability to boost to level 90 immediately to play late game content right off the bat. Will this be enough to bring back people who have strayed from the Warcraft fold? Finally a gameplay trailer was shown regarding the Diablo III expansion Reaper of Souls. The new add-on will include an adventure mode that unlocks all waypoints, dramatically opening up the world for players to begin playing and go fight anything, anywhere. Two other additions are made to the adventure mode: Bounties and Nephalem Rifts. Bounties are basically random hits on powerful monsters that can be used to get more gold and experience, while rifts are portals to dungeons that contain rare and valuable loot. In addition to the adventure mode teaser, there was also snippets of gameplay shown from the PS4 version of Diablo III. What do you think? Excited? Itching to try World of Warcraft or return to it? Ready for a new MOBA or more Diablo III? Let us know what you think! View full article
