  1. Hey guys! I put together a easy little workout/stretch you can do at your desk if you need help getting through the night! Check out or skip to bonus round if you need to get your heart beating a little bit more! (video on youtube has links for marks in video if you want to restart the workout easy or just skip to some jacks!)
  2. As gamers we can tend to stay in doors (although I'm sure Pokemon Go has helped change this ). In partnership with Nebraska Gamers we'll be hosting a fitness Challenge, starting on Monday July 11th, 2016 and ending on Saturday October 29th, 2016 (one week before National Play Day). The goal is to get people up and moving, while promoting a healthy lifestyle. Working out solo can be a chore (and quite boring), Nebraska Gamers suggested it could be fun, and a way to meet new people while getting involved. So with this fitness challenge we want everyone to get together to have fun playing outdoor games! Now to the nitty gritty. Rules: 1) Must be an active participant in the Omaha Extra Life Guild. This doesn't mean you have to come to every meeting, or volunteer at every event (although it is appreciated!). Be active on forums, volunteer a couple times, say Hi! At the very least introduce yourself to The Guild, and provide some input! 2) You do not need to get a gym membership or a fitness tracker (FitBit, etc). There are plenty of places online to track everything required for this challenge (rule 3). One online tool is, there are plenty of well rated apps for iOS, Android and Windows phone also. If you have a smart phone, most phones have step counters and tools for tracking fitness built in. By being active you can take a walk, play sports, even run a 5k... Or catch Pokemon with Pokemon Go Just move and burn calories! 3) You'll need to track three things: Weight lost or gained, calories burnt during activities, and time being active every week. Your not required to post any of this information publicly, but once a month you'll need to send a message to a guild officer, or bring the information to the monthly guild meeting. 4) We realize some people will be losing weight, and some will be gaining muscle mass and toning. So to find the winner we'll find the standard deviation of the three categories for all participants. The category with the highest standard deviation will be thrown out. Then, we'll average your values for the other two categories, and the winner will be the participant with the highest values. 5) We are using the honor system. We would prefer it if you had a fitness device, but if you do not have one write them down! Ultimately we would like to continue these challenges within The Guild, so please do not cheat to win! Now for the awesome part, PRIZES! We'll be giving out prizes to the top three winners. First Prize: Xbox Elite Controller (If you don't have an Xbox, we'll find an equivalent) Second/Third Prize: TBD, but something healthy, since this is a fitness challenge! And now more awesome stuff, Nebraska Gamers is going to do some extremely beneficial collaboration jazz. In their Nebraska Gamers Get Fit group, Nebraska Gamers will be hosting events to join, helping people find workout partners, and giving general help! If your every looking for something to do, or want someone to work out with, check there or post. This is all about being friendly and getting healthier!   3. I am seeing tons of folks weaving fitness and exercise into their (day to day gaming / marathoning) last year and this year. I wanted to create a topic to potentially talk about some ideas you guys and gals may have in terms of getting fit while playing games. Our hospital shared their concerns with spreading the idea of sitting for long periods of time to play games and have asked questions concerning ways the guild could share ways for players to incorporate exercise, fitness and family into our campaigning. Other than going straight to the full body controlling games and Wii, I was trying to see if anyone have innovative way they are utilizing their queuing/spawning times to sneak a few exercises in. We also have had guild members participate in volunteering efforts, 5Ks and more.
