  1. Far Cry 5 takes players into the heart of Montana in the fictional Hope County. A militia led by a fanatical religious leader has overtaken the area and it's up to players to rid Hope County of this dangerous threat. Given the militia's overwhelming presence in the area, that's a tall order. Luckily, it's not one that has to be tackled alone. Ubisoft showed off a gameplay walkthrough demonstrating how players can use guns-for-hire, such as Grace the sharpshooter, to aid them during missions. Grace eliminated targets designated by the player from afar and even called out unseen enemies closing in on the player. Boomer, the player's canine companion, can be ordered to attack foes and fetch weapons. When air support is needed, pilot Nick Rye can fly in on his biplane and unleash a hail of gunfire upon targets. Those who prefer a more personable touch of assistance can have their friends lend a hand with missions online. Far Cry 5 hits PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC February 27, 2018. View full article

  3. Are you ready to wake the dragon? Ubisoft will be releasing free copies of Far Cry 3: Blood Dragon starting tomorrow (and if you get into the service soon enough today you might still be able to pick up a copy of this month's game, Beyond Good & Evil). The studio has been releasing free games through its Ubisoft Club for the past few months. If you haven't heard of Ubisoft Club, it's a free service that rewards people who play Ubisoft's games. This includes games that were purchased used or digitally. The service offers some exclusive rewards and discounts in the Uplay Shop. The service presents challenges, badges, Club XP, and more. To obtain copies of Ubisoft's free game giveaways, which will continue at least through December, gamers need to sign up for the Ubisoft Club. The downside seems to be that it is really hard to unjoin the club short of deleting your Ubisoft account and then reaching out to customer support.

  5. Far Cry aims to bring players in touch with their prehistoric roots by setting the latest incarnation of the franchise during the Stone Age. Players take on the role of Takkar, a moderately skilled hunter whose tribe is wiped out in the early portion of the game. Alone and hunted by the giant animals and enemy tribes, Takkar must survive at all costs. This emphasis on survival is a core part of what Ubisoft envisions for Primal. There are no stores, players must craft the tools they need to survive. Beginning weapons will make use of wood and stone, but will become more and more elaborate and effective as Takkar gains access to more resources. Beyond tools, players will have to master the many uses of fire. Weapons can be lit on fire for more damage, while torches can be lit to scare off the beasts that stalk the forest at night. Far Cry Primal is a world in which mammoths and saber-tooth tigers stalk the land and the humans who are trying to get by. There is a large, living ecosystem. Players who hunt a mammoth across the plains might find that they aren't the only predators around when they finally manage to bring the beast down. As Takkar, players begin the game arriving in the land of Oros as a solitary man. However, as he continues to survive, players will be able to recruit new tribe members to coordinate hunts and secure more power. Ubisoft seems to be pitching the tale of Takkar as a prehistoric rise to power, moving from simply surviving to conquering both nature and the tribes of Oros. Far Cry Primal releases February 23, 2016 for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC.
