Several colleges and as many as 1000+ people are expected. There will be an arcade area, gamer art, and local devs from Red Storm, Epic, etc. The main charity beneficiary is Operation Supply Drop which helps troops stationed at military bases and hospitals both stateside and overseas cope with military stress and depression through supplies and gaming! One highlight from their organization is that they were able to provide a make-a-wish type opportunity for a group of veterans who got to play Madden with members of the Chicago Bears! Very cool!! OSD is very willing to allow Extra Life to partner with them and share the donation proceeds. These guys were at the Microsoft Store with us during the launch of The Division earlier this year and are a very cool group of people! Ross is hoping for a $20K+ budget for this event. Last year Intel provided $300K worth of high end networking equipment for the event! Despite the fact that this event will take place during what is usually Extra Life’s “offseason” the leadership team would love to be a big part of this great event! That’s it guys and girls! As always feel free to comment if you have questions or concerns!! Thanks! Steven

We are also looking to partner with the Duke Dance Marathon group (possibly with Dance Central on Xbox) as they raise money for the same reasons as Extra Life! Ross plans to be there from 8-5 pm each day. 9/11 – Downtown Cary Food & Flea Market – Looking to have a table for this event. Miscellaneous Andrew shared a recent “Pokemon Walk” hosted by the Albany Guild. They had local Pokemon groups advertise on Facebook and received over 500 RSVPs. They provided charging stations for devices, and the hospital provided water and snacks to the participants. The received an insane 120 signups in just three hours!! Andrew also wants us to take advantage of the Pokemon craze locally in Nash Square. We are looking to have a table set up in the park. There are restrictions but it looks like the city is going to green light this! I mentioned having another 12-hour event around the half way point between now and the main event on 11/5. Hospital Update The development office had a recent guest speaker named Dr. Mike Kastan. He is involved with all things cancer research at Duke. He explained a new research initiative where dogs who have already been diagnosed with cancer and whose owners are looking for treatment options can be enrolled in clinical trials. Dogs provide better results than lab mice, live in a similar environment to humans (versus a cage for mice), and are already diagnosed. Cancer is a disease that becomes more prominent the older we get, and more than five million dogs are diagnosed each year (and about one million receive some type of treatment). Some breeds are even susceptible to specific forms of cancer. Dr. Kastan also noted that while it can take up to 10 years to validate new medications using lab mice, the dog research can improve that time table to closer to one year! There was a recent event at the hospital where a group of cosplayers hosted by Ultimate Comics and NC ComicCon visited the kids. The NC SpiderMan also made an appearance. Future Events Boxcar- Extra Life is now an official partner! “Drink for a Cause” Nights – We will be involved with these every other month. Monthly Tournaments – We will be hosted one each month. July 30th – Hearthstone Fireside Gathering @ Atomic Empire – Official upcoming event (huge thanks to Justin (@I-ninja) and Pete (@NC_Villan) for setting this up!!!) First Friday - Looking into having a tent again in July. Miscellaneous 12-Hour Mini Marathon @ Kramden – This has been scheduled for Saturday, July 9th (assuming Kramden’s approval of course!) The annual T-Shirt Design Contest has a winner! You can see the logo here: https://www.facebook.com/ExtraLife4Kids/posts/10156901324285335:0 Thankfully the higher ups listened to feedback and decided to use black shirts instead of white. This was part of the May Recap email you may have received recently. The Playstation 2016 Road to Greatness Contest is under way! http://blog.us.playstation.com/2016/06/06/my-road-to-greatness-2016-contest-starts-today/ Andrew thinks we should band together and create a video entry to have them visit the RDU Guild! That’s it guys and girls! As always feel free to comment if you have questions or concerns!! Thanks! Steven
