Star Wars Battlefront Revealed at Star Wars Celebration
Jack Gardner posted an article in Gaming News
The curtain has fallen. EA and DICE unveiled the first substantial trailer for the next-gen reboot of the beloved franchise. Players will be able to battle across the Galaxy on planets like Hoth, Endor, Tatooine, and Sullust. Like previous games in the Star Wars Battlefront series, expect to be able to pilot a variety of vehicles running the gamut from speederbikes to AT-ATs. Another returning feature will be the ability to take on the role of powerful figures in the Star Wars universe, like Darth Vader or Boba Fett. Players will be able to swap between 3rd and 1st-person perspectives while fighting as either the Republic or the Empire in online multiplayer supporting up to 40 players or offline in single player or co-op through a crafted series of missions. Unfortunately, it doesn't look like there will be space combat maps like in Battlefront 2, but there is always hope for post-release additions through DLC. Even though space combat appears to be off the table for now, players will still be able to get their TIE fighter fix. Spacecraft like the X-wings, Y-wings, and even the Millenium Falcon will be able to take to the skies and dogfight for aerial supremacy. “Like so many others around the world, everyone at DICE is a tremendous fan of the Star Wars universe,” said Sigurlina Ingvarsdottir, senior producer of Star Wars Battlefront. “To be working on a Star Wars project and knowing we are helping to represent the universe we love to our generation and a legion of new Star Wars fans is truly an honor. Thanks to the access and knowledge shared with us by Lucasfilm, and the passion and talent of our team, we plan to deliver an amazing game that puts you right in the middle of the Star Wars battles you always imagined playing.” DICE is even offering a tantalizing pre-order bonus for hardcore Star Wars fans: Early access to the Battle of Jakku, an important battle that occurs after the Battle of Endor and precedes the events of Star Wars Episode VII: The Force Awakens. Those that pre-order will be able to play on the two maps set on Jakku come December 1st, while those that don't pre-order will have to wait for the conflict to unlock for free on December 8th. Star Wars Battlefront is slated for release on November 17 for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC. untilTo celebrate the continued success of the Extra Life Baltimore Guild and the incredible efforts of our local Extra Lifers in supporting Johns Hopkins Children's Center, we will be having a special celebration and meeting! This meeting is no longer being held at the hospital, and will include an escape room! Due to expenses and limited available space, there is only one remaining spot for this event. Please be sure to let us know in our Discord channel or in the comments below if you intend come. It is critical that you only RSVP if you are 100% confirmed able to attend, as the hospital is paying a per-person rate for our escape room. If you RSVP, you will be provided with details about the escape room. The entire experience, including the meeting and the escape room, is expected to run between 12:00 PM and 3:00 PM EST. We're working on getting food provided to the team at no charge, which means we need RSVPs! ALL Extra Lifers in the area are welcome to attend, but please remember that we need an accurate head count in order to get the right amount of food for everyone, so please RSVP on this Calendar event, even if you've told someone in the Guild you're going! We may also arrange a social event directly afterwards, possibly at Games 'n' Stuff in Glen Burnie, where we'll play some random board games and hang out as a group. Details on this will be updated to this page closer to the event date.
