  1. It is a good time to be a Halo fan. The Master Chief Collection is heading to Xbox One next month and Microsoft is launching the hype machine with today's announcements. The 65GB Halo: Master Chief Collection hits store shelves on November 11, a release that it shares with the first episode of Halo: Nightfall, a live-action series overseen by executive producer Ridley Scott and directed by Sergio Mimica-Gezzan (best known for his work directing several episodes of the Battlestar Galactica miniseries). Nightfall is intended to connect Halo 4 with Halo 5: Guardians as well as introduce Agent Locke, a secondary playable character who will appear in Guardians. On top of slick, new Nightfall footage, Microsoft announced HaloFest, an event celebrating all things Halo. It will be held on November 10 in Los Angeles. If you are the world's biggest Halo fan and can't make it, don't fret, you can tune into a livestream of the event. HaloFest will include an early look at a beta build of Halo 5: Guardians, the premier of Halo: Nightfall, and interviews with members of 343 Industries' development team. On November 8-9, Microsoft will also be hosting a Halo tournament where 32 pro-gamers will compete in Halo 2: Anniversary multiplayer for $50,000 in prizes. You'll be able to watch a livestream of that tournament, too!

  3. CCP's EVE Online Fanfest event began today, leading to several important announcements regarding EVE: Valkyrie, the Oculus-enabled space dogfighting sim. First, CCP revealed that Valkyrie would be switching over from Unity development to Unreal Engine 4. The move was doubtlessly motivated by the game engine's drastic change in monetization which made developing much more affordable. That means we can expect Valkyrie to look even better than it does now, which is an impressive prospect. The second bombshell came in the form of Katee Sackhoff, the actress who portrayed space-pilot Starbuck in the Battlestar Galactica reboot from 2004. Sackhoff has agreed to step into the cockpit once again in the starring role of Rán, the leader of the Valkyrie fighter pilots. “The first time I played EVE: Valkyrie I immediately knew I had to be a part of it,” said Sackhoff. “Even with the roles I have played, it is the closest I have ever felt to being a real spaceship pilot. It is a truly transformative video game experience.” “Katee is the perfect actor to bring Rán to life,” added Owen O’Brien, executive producer for EVE: Valkyrie at CCP. “Not only does she have a track record in bringing strong female characters to life, but also once she had played Valkyrie I was delighted to see that she was as excited and enthused about the project as we are.”
