  2. Hey Friends! Another Game Day and another Extra Life milestone! The past month marked a number of fundraising firsts and shattered records, meaning November 2017 saw the entire community step up and raise more money than ever before to help sick and injured kids across North America. Our monthly updates are sent out to let you all know the important news from around the community. Buckle in, because you’re the best gaming has to offer! A Record-Breaking Game Day Game Day weekend left our jaws on the floor this year as you all came together to raise over $1.8 million for the kids! The collective efforts of thousands of gamers across all kinds of platforms and mediums pushed us beyond the $7 million mark. It was a weekend of coming together, helping children, and forging memories. We certainly won't be forgetting our milestone celebration anytime soon! First $1MM+ Team in Extra Life History We are proud to announce that Rooster Teeth now holds the honor of being the first team to raise over $1 MILLION! Since they began participating in Extra Life, the RT community has collected more than $3 million for Dell Children's Medical Center of Central Texas. They're making miracles happen for those kids. November was Humbling! The past month has seen game developers and publishers support Extra Life through Humble Bundle. Our friends at Double Fine Productions created the Day of the Devs Bundle raising over $57K for the kids. For Game Day, we had the opportunity to put together the massive official Extra Life Humble Bundle that brought in an additional $60K with the help of Bandai Namco, Adult Swim Games, Paradox Interactive, DrinkBox Studios, and PAIZO. Reminder: You can support Extra Life with each Humble Bundle purchase by using our partner link. Continuing to Make Miracles We may have broken $7 million on Game Day weekend, but the Extra Life community continued fundraising for all of November. That month of fundraising means that Extra Life 2017 has currently raised over $10 MILLION FOR THE KIDS!!! That's truly incredible! Every year, Children's Miracle Network Hospitals across the US and Canada treat 10 million kids, and it is amazing to see Extra Life step up to try to meet their needs. We’ve broken a lot of records this year, but remember that there’s still time to do more. Fundraising remains open through December 31st. We put together some fundraising tips for those in the community who want to help us reach $10.5 million before the end of 2017. Get your offline and matching donations in as soon as possible to count toward your 2017 fundraising total! Never stop pushing forward for fun, fellowship, and – as always…. 4. It might seem an obvious choice to write a blog with the intent of “giving thanks” as we wrap up the Thanksgiving holiday here in the States last week, but when you're fortunate enough to have a community like the Extra Life community, we feel it’s an honor and privilege to do so. You see, a couple weeks ago, we witnessed something happen in the Extra Life community that we had a hard time even imagining. We watched a single Extra Life team raise over $1 million #ForTheKids… in 24-hours. In fact, we watched them raise over $1.2 million! Team Rooster Teeth, led by the fearless Jack Pattillo and Caiti Ward, hosted their 7th Extra Life marathon over the years, full of antics and crazy shenanigans, to raise money for children and their families who desperately need your support. To simply state that we’re thankful for Jack Pattillo, Caiti Ward and everyone over at Rooster Teeth team would be grossly understating who they are and the role they’ve played in growing the Extra Life community to become a force for good for Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals. Since 2010, Rooster Teeth has enlisted nearly 11,000 of their fans into the Extra Life community and together, have raised an astonishing $3.5+ million dollars for 155 different Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals (that’s just over 90% of our member hospitals) across the US and Canada. You can understand that when we see someone use #RTEXTRALIFE, we know they’re serious about playing games and healing kids. We know that the Rooster Teeth gang does some pretty, well, unorthodox things for donations. But this year we wanted to be sure note this ultimate “awwww cute” highlight. The Rooster Teeth community is in it for the long haul as the company has pledged to raise $3 million for Dell Children’s Hospital in Austin, TX to help pay for a new mental health wing so kids with mental illnesses will have a special place to be treated. The new mental health wing at Dell Children’s will have a healing garden that provides a place for the kids to play, relax and recharge during their stay and treatment in the hospital and will be properly named the “Rooster Teeth Healing Garden”! As we recall the time spent with family and friends last week we are reminded of the love and enthusiasm that powers Extra Life. We are grateful for Rooster Teeth, Jack, Caiti and the thousands of people who’ve watched, shared, participated and donated to Extra Life, supporting and improving the lives of families in their own and other’s communities. This love and enthusiasm that powers Extra Life continues to amaze all of us here at Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals. On behalf of our hospitals and kids receiving treatment and care, thank you. 6. I am STILL dragging from nearly a week ago. Need. More. Coffee. But every minute was worth it. Extra Life weekend (Nov 4-5) brought in over $1.8 million for CMN Hospitals, bringing the overall fundraising total of Extra Life close to $7.8 million as of 11-9-17. We are stunned! Amazed! Honored! That is what we like to call, a success! The donations are STILL coming in too! We know that many of you are playing in the coming weeks, so we have a good feeling about 2017. If you came up short of your goal, no problem! There's still time to collect donations until 12/31/2017. Grab that loot too! Extra Lifers still have time to raise more funds and unlock some cool incentives! The end of Game Day weekend also brought forth the winners of the ESA Foundation Challenge . Congratulations to Seattle Children's Hospital for winning top fundraising hospital, and Stollery Children's Hospital Foundation for winning top hospital per capita! We are so proud of this community. You have really come through once again for the kids at Children's Miracle Network Hospitals across the US and Canada. Keep up the good work, we still have plenty of time to play games and heal kids! View full article

  8. Hello Everyone, So what's your plans for your marathon this year? Or are you splitting your time up among a few days? As for myself; since I first learned of Extra Life, it has always been a group activity. I get together with a bunch of folks and we play video games separately, or together, for as long as we can. Honestly, we rarely last the full 24, but hey, I'm gettin' up there in years at this point! Last year was the first time I didn't setup the retro wall I'd had in previous years, and I'm thinking it might be time for a comeback. it made for a neat little distraction for folks who may want a break from their chosen game and just chill out with the old school stuff for a while. Anywho, I'm interested to see what the rest of you folks are gettin' up to this year! Thanks, Chris "LonestarF1" Redden

  12. Long ago in a time now forgotten by modernity, there existed a game. That game pitted mortals against unspeakable horrors from beyond the stars. At the time, many laughed at its premise and comical execution, but little did those who scoffed know that the developers of Earth Defense Force had read the signs and knew of the coming apocalypse. They knew that they would have a single chance and that just one game would be their warning to the world of the impending disaster. The year is now 2017 - the eve of the bug-pocalypse. With schedules being what they are, sometimes coordinating a full episode of The Best Games Period can be difficult. When we can't have a proper discussion, we will be breaking off to do these shorter mini-casts, Honorable Mentions, to talk about fringe games that we might not otherwise be able to talk about on a full episode. Outro music: Sonic CD 'A World in Motion' by DusK (http://ocremix.org/remix/OCR03081) We also recorded our 66th episode - an E3 wrap-up that released last week, but never got posted here (sorry about that, family medical emergency!). You can listen to that below! What's an E3? Jeremy and Daniel explain! Outro music: Super Castlevania IV 'Selva Oscura' by Furilas, Jorito, and Tuberz McGee (http://ocremix.org/remix/OCR03540) You can download or listen to the podcast over on Soundcloud, our hosting site, and iTunes. A YouTube version is (sometimes) available as well, so you can watch what we are talking about while we talk about it! If you want to have your opinion heard on air, share your opinion in the comments, follow the show on Twitter, and participate in the weekly polls: @BestGamesPeriod New episodes of The Best Games Period will be released every Monday View full article

  17. Though E3 proper hasn't yet begun, the pre-E3 press conferences have! This year, we are going to be capping off each day with a podcast discussing the news of the day with the talented bunch of people we've collected to cover the year's biggest gaming trade show. Day three covered a lot of ground between Ubisoft and Sony. The two industry titans threw out some pretty exciting announcements, like a completely overhauled Shadow of the Colossus for the PS4 and confirmation that, yes, Beyond Good & Evil 2 exists. Jack Gardner, Marcus Stewart and Naomi Lugo cover the basic, need-to-know announcements from the day. Kick back, relax, and enjoy the show with us! View full article

Today we’re incredibly excited to share that we are launching Guilds in 5 NEW cities! 23. As March ends and April begins, now is the perfect time to look back on all that we accomplished over the past month. We finalized the donation total from 2016, had a blast at PAX East and pulled off the biggest Extra Life United event ever! Our monthly updates are sent out to let you all know the important news from around the community. Buckle in, because you’re the best gaming has to offer! Community Update PAX East was easily one of our most successful events yet. The Boston Guild did a fantastic job recruiting at the event; over a dozen volunteers pitched in from March 10 – 12 to make it a success for Extra Life. Because of their efforts, we would like to welcome 459 new members to the Extra Life family! Throughout PAX East, the Forza Challenge was in full swing. Those who stopped by and managed to snag top lap times won a sweet board game for their victory. Over 300 people attended Extra Life United in Orlando, FL on March 23 – 25, the biggest turn out yet for our signature eSports event. Outside of the gaming tournament and $150,000 prize pool, attendees were able to meet miracle families from every state and province in North America, as well as meet other Extra Lifers to discuss fundraising ideas, Guild tactics, and just have a good time. A big thank you to Twitch and other community supporters for helping make the event possible. Be sure to head over to our Twitch Extra Life channel to see some of the video highlights! Guess what? We are about to launch Extra Life Guilds in several new cities! We’re welcoming Birmingham, Charlottesville, Dayton, Fresno, and Saskatchewan into the fold. These new additions to the Extra Life family will be launching soon, joining the ranks of our 73 other Extra Life Guilds across North America. International Tabletop Day looms ever closer. Mark April 29 on your calendars and get ready to play some board games. A substantial number of Extra Lifers have been planning mini-Extra Life tabletop marathons that weekend. If you’re planning one, to add your event to the calendar on the Extra Life community site. ~2016 Fundraising Total~ Let’s get to the big number reveal for our 2016 fundraising total. When all the dust settled from our accounting team collecting the offline donations, matching gifts, and various odds and ends we were stunned. In 2016, the Extra Life community came together and raised a whopping $9,694,148! That’s up from our 2015 total of $8.3 million!! Congratulations to everyone who worked so hard to set such a high bar for 2017!!! It’s only the beginning of April and we are already setting the bar even higher than last year, so let’s all keep pushing forward for fun, fellowship, and – as always…. For The Kids!
