  1. The three-part addition to Telltale's narrative take on the popular blocky building game comes to a close with the release of Episode 8: A Journey's End? this September 13. Minecraft: Story Mode proved to be fairly successful when it launched in late 2015 and Telltale began extending the series with new episodes as part of the Adventure Pass after the original five episode run came to a close. Three episodes make up the additional content. The first, A Portal to Mystery, offered players a chance to solve a spooky mansion mystery with characters voiced by popular Minecraft YouTubers. Access Denied composes the second episode of the Adventure Pass in which players face off against a haywire redstone AI. The final episode, A Journey's End?, follows the block-based adventurers as they battle their way through a gladiatorial arena in a bid to find their way home. Two voice actors have been revealed for the finale episode: Jim Cummings and Kari Wahlgren. Many might recognize Cummings for his work on Winnie the Pooh and Darkwing Duck. Meanwhile, Kari Wahlgren has made a name for herself on Rick and Morty and The Farily OddParents. The Adventure Pass can be purchased for $14.99 while individual episodes go for $4.99 apiece. It is required that players own Episode 1 of Minecraft: Story Mode or the physical season pass disc in order to purchase Episodes 6-8. Minecraft: Story Mode and the Adventure Pass episodes 6 & 7 are available now for PC, PS3, PS4, Xbox 360, Xbox One, Android, and iOS. Episode 8: A Journey's End will be available on September 13 for all consoles and PCs, with the mobile versions coming later that week.
  2. Hyper Light Drifter released several months ago on PC to a mostly positive reception. Now the stylish indie darling is coming to consoles. Heart Machine put a lot of effort into crafting a subtle, tight experience that doesn't overstay its welcome and rewards those who can master its combat. Check out our review for a more in-depth look at what makes Hyper Light Drifter so special and check it out on console tomorrow if you haven't had a chance to play it (it really does control well with controllers). 4. The Tomb Raider film just became that much more of a reality. Multiple sources have reported that Laura Croft's next motion picture will be releasing on March 16, 2018. The reboot of the Tomb Raider film franchise stars Oscar-winner Alicia Vikander (Danish Girl, Ex Machina) as Laura. It will be in the hands of Norwegian director Roar Uthaug, best known for his well-received 2015 film The Wave. Uthaug has said that the movie will be drawing heavily on the 2013 Tomb Raider game for its story. Speaking of the story, the screenplay is being worked on by one of the writers from Transformers 5, Geneva Robertson-Dworet. With precious little else to go on, it is nice to know that Hollywood is once again giving films based on video games a chance once again. View full article

  6. Big news coming out of Nintendo today. The next console from the company, code-named NX, will be releasing March 2017. No additional information was revealed about the upcoming console, though Nintendo did confirm the console would not be making an appearance at E3 2016. This news might be a little bittersweet for Nintendo fans. The Legend of Zelda Wii U is actually being pushed back to next year to release on both Wii U and NX. Nintendo insists that both the Wii U and NX versions of the title have been in development at the same time. It is worth noting, however, that they go on to say that the reason for the delay is to provide additional time to polish the game - though this release postponement seems to be more related to the desire to launch both versions at the same time. While the delay of the next installment of The Legend of Zelda might be a disappointment, the good news is that we will be seeing a lot of the Wii U version of the title at this year's E3. The bad news is that The Legend of Zelda is pretty much all that we will be able to play from Nintendo at E3. Nintendo has said they will approach E3 differently this year, making The Legend of Zelda Wii U the only playable game that they will be bringing to the show. They claim this is to "provide attendees [with] complete immersion." Today's news comes as a bit of a mixed bag. Yay, console release date! But Zelda is delayed again.... Yay, Zelda will be playable at E3! But that's all that will be playable at E3.... Nintendo, stop playing with our hearts this way.

  8. When Hironobu Sakaguchi, the creator of the Final Fantasy series took the stage at last night's Uncovered: Final Fantasy XV event, you could tell something cool was happening. Sakaguchi left Square Enix years ago to found a new RPG developer called Mistwalker Corporation, but apparently good friendships remained between the creator of one of the most iconic RPG franchises and those who manage that series at Square Enix. The series creator praised Final Fantasy XV as a return to the series heart, perhaps a subtle jab at some of Square Enix's missteps in the past while simultaneously hyping the newest entry. Following Sakaguchi's appearance, they played the latest trailer for Final Fantasy XV. It really is something. It comes on strong with high fantasy-tech action, some light story exposition, and then rolls into the song "Stand By Me" as performed by Florence + the Machine while friends hang out and fight monsters. That might sound strange, but after getting over the shock of hearing Florence + the Machine in a Final Fantasy trailer somehow I think it works. There are some serious indications that this rendition of "Stand By Me" will be a recurring theme of Final Fantasy XV, like the prominent use of the song in this trailer as well as the song getting its own announcement trailer. The trailer also reveals the release date of Final Fantasy XV: September 30. We will be seeing the next core entry in the Final Fantasy series in just seven months. Final Fantasy XV will be available on Xbox One and PlayStation 4.

  10. Far Cry aims to bring players in touch with their prehistoric roots by setting the latest incarnation of the franchise during the Stone Age. Players take on the role of Takkar, a moderately skilled hunter whose tribe is wiped out in the early portion of the game. Alone and hunted by the giant animals and enemy tribes, Takkar must survive at all costs. This emphasis on survival is a core part of what Ubisoft envisions for Primal. There are no stores, players must craft the tools they need to survive. Beginning weapons will make use of wood and stone, but will become more and more elaborate and effective as Takkar gains access to more resources. Beyond tools, players will have to master the many uses of fire. Weapons can be lit on fire for more damage, while torches can be lit to scare off the beasts that stalk the forest at night. Far Cry Primal is a world in which mammoths and saber-tooth tigers stalk the land and the humans who are trying to get by. There is a large, living ecosystem. Players who hunt a mammoth across the plains might find that they aren't the only predators around when they finally manage to bring the beast down. As Takkar, players begin the game arriving in the land of Oros as a solitary man. However, as he continues to survive, players will be able to recruit new tribe members to coordinate hunts and secure more power. Ubisoft seems to be pitching the tale of Takkar as a prehistoric rise to power, moving from simply surviving to conquering both nature and the tribes of Oros. Far Cry Primal releases February 23, 2016 for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC.

  12. Awesome. Awesome! AWESOME! After almost seven years in development, The Witness finally has a release date. Originally announced back in 2009 with a projected release date for 2011, The Witness has since gone dark with only brief updates on its progress from indie dev Jonathan Blow. Blow is best known for his work on Braid, one of the games credited for sparking the indie studio revolution. The Witness was also slated to be a launch title for the PlayStation 4, but slowly slipped out of that time window. However, now it appears that the game is more beautiful than ever and has been firmly attached to January 26, 2016.

  14. If you were hoping for a new massively open world set on the continent of Tamriel any time soon, you might want to adjust your expectations. Dualshockers spoke recently with Pete Hines, Bethesda's VP of marketing, about The Elder Scrolls Online. When asked about a follow-up to Skyrim, Hines stated that he didn't think we would be seeing another single-player Elder Scrolls title "for a very long time." Instead, the company will be focusing all of its attention on DLC for The Elder Scrolls Online and Fallout 4's core game, DLC, and mod support. Once all of that is done we might hear about a new Elder Scrolls, but we could also always hear about a new IP. Fallout 4 is currently slated for release in November. View full article

  18. IMGN.PRO has announced that exploration-horror title Kholat will be available on April 24 of this year. Today is the 56th anniversary of the mysterious events upon which Kholat is based, and IMGN.PRO has released an animated video retelling the puzzling story. Kholat is based on the true events of the Dyatlov Pass Incident in which nine Russian students died under inexplicable circumstances while attempting to reach Otorten, a prime skiing location. When the location of their final campsite was found, investigators noted that their tent had been cut open from the inside and that they had all fled on barefoot into subzero temperatures, leaving all of their supplies behind, as if in terror. As the bodies were slowly recovered over the next months, coroners noted that several of the hikers had died or been injured prior to their deaths by a strange kinetic force not left by human or animal as there was no soft tissue damage. It was also noted that several of the bodies were irradiated with no discernible cause. IMGN.PRO has decided to offer up their own interpretation of these chilling events in Kholat. The game follows members of the expedition as they become involved in something much more sinister than a simple skiing trip. Kholat is narrated by Boromir, perhaps better known as actor Sean Bean. Powered by Unreal Engine 4, even the pre-alpha gameplay looks beautiful. Kholat will be released on April 24 for PC and Mac.
