  1. A ton of amazing games came out during 2015. Jeremy, Daniel, and Jack bring their number one game of the year along with one honorable mention apiece. What game will be remembered as one of the best games period in several years? Feel free to share your top pick and honorable mention in the comments. Each week we will be tackling a video game, old or new, that at least one of us believes deserves to stand as one of the greatest games of all time. We'll dive into its history, development, and gameplay, while trying to argue for or against the game of the week. Sometimes we will be in harmonious agreement, other times we might be fighting a bitter battle to the very end. However each episode shakes out, we hope that everyone who listens will find the show entertaining and informative. You can download or listen to the podcast over on Soundcloud, our hosting site, and iTunes. A YouTube version is available as well, so you can watch what we are talking about while we talk about it (though this week's is delayed due to recording late)! You can also follow the show on Twitter: @BestGamesPeriod Outro music: Metal Gear Solid 3 'Innocent Deception' by Claire Yaxley and Dj Mystix (http://ocremix.org/remix/OCR02573) New episodes of The Best Games Period will be released every Monday

The Best Games Period - Episode 4 - Ico

Ico released in 2001 to wide praise from critics, but slow sales in the West. Over time it attained cult status and became one of the games that shaped major design decisions across the industry right up until the present day. The puzzles, immersive storytelling, and enduring influence seem to make Fumito Ueda's classic an ideal candidate for this podcast. Surprisingly, Ico proves to be the most divisive episode yet recorded of The Best Games Period. 9. Over the last few months, I've been working on a special project with some industry and podcasting veterans and today we're finally ready to reveal what we've been keeping under wraps for so long: The Best Games Period. Join myself, game critic and sometimes Extra Life contributor Daniel Jones, and podcasting guru Jeremy Brown as we debate, argue, and sometimes agree over the best video games. Together we have nearly a decade of podcasting experience and even more in writing about games. We're confident that The Best Games Period will be one of the most interesting podcasts you'll find on gaming. Period. Each week we will be tackling a video game, old or new, that at least one of us believes deserves to stand as one of the greatest games of all time. We'll dive into its history, development, gameplay, while trying to argue for or against the game of the week. Sometimes we will be in harmonious agreement, other times we might be fighting a bitter battle to the very end. However each episode shakes out, we hope that the show will be entertaining and informative for everyone who listens. For our first episode, we decided to discuss Donkey Kong. You can listen to the episode over on Soundcloud, download it from our hosting site Libsyn (the webpage is functional, but still under construction), and (soon) iTunes. You can also watch the YouTube version of the episode which features gameplay from the 1994 Super Nintendo classic. So, what are you waiting for? Load it up and enjoy some laughs, fun facts, and discover some of the best games period. The outro music this week: Donkey Kong Country 'Where's the Ocean, Andrew?' by OverClocked University (http://ocremix.org/remix/OCR02524) New episodes of The Best Games Period will be released every Monday.

  11. Hey guys, we're on our 5th year of Extra Life and always looking for more team members. We are hosts of a video game music podcast called Pixelated Audio and are located in the South Bay Area in California. If you're local, let us know if you can join! http://pixelatedaudio.com or PM me
  12. What's up Extra Lifers, Earlier last week I was invited to participate in a gaming podcast to talk about Extra Life. I jumped at the chance and we recorded on the morning of August 1st. The section about Extra Life is fairly short, but we did talk about how to sign up, and what the money went for, and the hosts have all expressed interest in getting into Extra Life themselves. I even challenged them to do so! For those that are interested in hearing it, here is the link. Quick note, there are some audio issues with this cast. We were having all kinds of trouble with Skype, but no much goes wrong during the Extra Life portion. http://gamercade.podomatic.com/entry/2015-08-01T19_38_43-07_00
  13. It's time to reach into the past and pull out our lost June Episode. Recorded, but never released until now this episode is chock full of things from June. Sit back and relax, there are some surprises in there along with much vaguebooking. So very much vaguebooking. In this month's podcast Mike learns Gum etiquette.Rick breaks down all the community and Guild changes the team has been working on.Mike Talks about all the things coming up for Extra Life this summer. With much Vague booking.Rick, Mike and Jeromy can't figure out what to share and what not to share.Liz has the final word. Mostly.Note: A portion of this episode involves a "thing" happening in February. This is Extra Life United 2016. There will not be an ELU in 2015. As our organization has moved the annual Momentum conference and celebration of our champions to February, we felt holding a stand alone Extra Life United wouldn't have the same impact. A large part of the success and impact of ELU was getting to meet the kids we play for. Taking that element away would have seriously diminished the event. We'll share full details when we have them. We just wanted to make sure everyone was aware of the change. Download the file here.
