  1. With the rise of digital streaming platforms, the Extra Lifers who participate in fundraising efforts on Game Day and beyond have become incredibly visible and shaped the way that people think about Extra Life. However, Extra Life is more than just streaming! We have a large and passionate community that exists in spaces that are left out of the streaming world by choice or technical limitations. If you're looking to up your fundraising game without streaming, here are several ideas that will make your efforts to help your kids in your community successful. Make the First Donation to Your Page This first point might raise a few eyebrows. When it comes to fundraising, momentum is important. Participants who already have a donation, even if it is from themselves, are more easily able to attract future donations. In fact, making the initial donation yourself before any fundraising effort is so effective that, according to our friends at DonorDrive who have crunched the numbers, people who self-donate are likely to raise 10 times more than those who don't. Join D&D Adventurers League This should be of interest to the tabletop gamers in our community: Participating in Extra Life fundraising can help you earn rewards at the table in Dungeons & Dragons' Adventurers League! Adventurers League helps new people to learn how to play D&D while providing high-quality, regulated adventures for players of all skill levels. Since Wizards of the Coast began working with Extra Life several years ago, many local Adventurers League events have offered ways to earn in-game items or a re-roll of the dice via charitable donations. This year, Adventurers League is offering extended Liars Night (the name of their month-long Halloween event) festivities to everyone who has donated to a fundraising page on the Extra Life website, bought a re-roll ticket that benefited Extra Life, or otherwise helped in local fundraising efforts. This will extend the spooky celebration through November 7th, allowing more time for players to fight Wandering Monsters through Game Day and beyond. Defeating those monsters earns in-game candy corn that can be used for unique, holiday-related items. Download the Apps A reminder to download the apps might cause some to roll their eyes. However, if everyone in the Extra Life community downloaded and made the attempt to use the Mobile Fundraising Apps, Extra Life would be able to raise another $1 million USD for the kids! Set Up a $1 Donation Playlist One of the most creative unstreamed fundraising efforts we have encountered is a sponsored cross-country road trips. This involves an Extra Lifer soliciting $1 USD donations per song suggestion to construct a playlist of music they must listen to during their journey. Community member Rich Moser recently put this tactic to the test on a journey from Pittsburgh to Phoenix. "People could choose songs, ANY song, by donating $1 per song," explained Rich. "If my math is right, I raised $614 by doing this! [There were] so many great and terrible songs that I had to keep the playlist playing for a day or so after we got here in order to complete it!" If you want to take a gander at Rich's playlist, here’s the link (be warned some songs are NSFW). Launch a Facebook Fundraiser One of the features on Facebook that has gained traction over the years has been giving users on the social media site the ability to create fundraisers for causes near and dear to their hearts. This feature has raised over $1 billion USD since it was launched back in 2015. Due to a recent update to Extra Life's website, it has never been easier to create a Facebook Fundraiser. Through your account page on Extra Life's main website, you will have a small button that streamlines the fundraiser creation process with clear prompts to help you connect your Extra Life account with your Facebook. Once the process is complete, any donations to your Facebook fundraiser will be reflected in your fundraising total on Extra Life! On average, people who create Facebook Fundraisers raise $150 USD from the effort. If everyone in the Extra Life community created one, our fundraising totals for 2019 would be mind-boggling! Host a Classic Game Night If streaming isn't your thing, consider throwing a game night for your friends or community. Game nights are a classic way to get people engaged with your fundraising efforts, especially if it's a laid back, less formal event. Dust off the Rock Band or Guitar Hero controllers, grab a few board games, your tabletop dice, whatever will help everyone have a great time. The flexibility of fundraising during an occasion like this depends on your imagination. Ideas to raise money for the kids range from a $10 donation to attend the festivities to micro-donations to turn the tide of various games from Super Smash Bros. to Monopoly. The key is for everyone to walk away having had fun and armed with the knowledge that they helped kids in their communities. What are the most fun fundraising ideas with no streaming required that you have come up with? Share with us in the comments! Don't forget to sign up for Extra Life to help sick and injured kids in hospitals around the US and Canada by playing games!

  3. Hey everyone, In the past there was a way to add a badge in your email signature (i had it in outlook) to showcase people what % of your goal you had raised and allow people to click through to your fundraising page. Maybe i am just blind but i cannot seem to find that for this year's (2019) event. Anyone know where i can find this? Thanks

    Trivia Night

From the album: Chicago Nerdery 2017

Trivia is quickly becoming a staple of our Extra Life events. With help from our sponsors (raffle and silent auction) we brought in over $1,000 in one night.
  9. 2017 was the second year that my wife and I coordinated Extra Life. We learned a lot from both events and are happy to share our details below: 2017: https://www.facebook.com/notes/jim-butts/extra-life-wrap-up-2017-chicago-nerdery/10100508101971858/ 2016: https://www.facebook.com/notes/jim-butts/extra-life-wrap-up-2016-chicago-nerdery/10100267867473718/ Feel free to post feedback and also share your stories!

  11. For those still trying to hit your goal...and for those who already have....check out these suggestions from a few Extra Life supporters across the country! From @allthewayj "having people donate and i’ll wrap their presents" From @mosersaurus I’m going to do one last push and pledge to rock a mullet if I hit $5000 by the end of the year. I sent out a thank you email to all of my donors on Thanksgiving day just letting them know how awesome they are and the difference they are making with their support” From @Snow_White_Raven “I am going through right now and thanking every person that is supporting our hospital on their game page and getting them the info to connect with our guild.” From @FoxRacingGurl “When people are asking what to get me for Christmas, I asked for donation to my extra life account instead. Also some holiday parties choose to donate to a charity instead of bringing unwrapped toys or gifts for one another. So maybe reach out to some of the hosts of parties to see if they would be willing to make Extra Life their charity of choice.”
  12. Edit: It's out! https://mahn.bandcamp.com/releases Hey everyone! This is my 3rd year supporting Extra Life, and my main source of fundraising has been streaming and donations through Twitch. I teamed up with a back in April for a "Pretty Princess" stream with a friend of mine where we raised ~$1,400 for Extra Life! Shortly after though, due to personal reasons, I had to stop streaming on a regular basis. But I had a project on the backburner that I wanted to put whatever free time and energy I had into, and try to raise some money for EL before the end of the year. I've been playing music for 20 years, but never did an actual music project or album. I decided to change that, and I'll be releasing a six-track EP tomorrow (Wednesday, 12/5) called "World Warriors", a homage to the Street Fighter series. The concept is mixing and mashing metal songs, old and new, with video game music. The Chrono Trigger battle theme sounds like "The Trooper" from Iron Maiden? Let's do a song called Chrono Trooper! You get the idea I'll be doing a stream on Twitch on 12/5 at 6:30 PM ET as a "release party", and I'll play a few songs live. But once I release the album on Bandcamp, the "Pay More" option will be enabled. If you buy the album and pay more above the minimum price ($3 for a digital copy, $5 for a physical copy), I'll collect the additional money and donate it to Extra Life before the year end. I'll edit this post with the Bandcamp link once I release the album, but if you'd like to support on stream tomorrow, my Twitch channel is below! twitch.tv/mahn Promo video:

  14. So, despite all the personal stuff that caused me to be away for most of the summer/fall, I want to say how amazed and proud I am of all of you. We did some amazing things this game day, and here's the proof: City State Hospital Fundraising Participants October 30th 3pm CST: MILWAUKEE WI Children's Hospital of Wisconsin $47,268.00 529 November 6th 3pm CST: MILWAUKEE WI Children's Hospital of Wisconsin $106,413.00 724 But we aren't done yet. We have until December 31st to get donations in. Cash donations, check donations, or real-time through the site. Take your rest from game day, but let's all commit to one more push #ForTheKids this holiday season. I'm open to planning a meetup, or simply gaming online; but let's give it one final shot to see how far we can go. -Joshua
  15. The Entertainment Software Association (ESA) and the ESA Foundation have been prolific partners with Extra Life from the very beginning! Each year we love announcing this challenge to our Extra Lifers and Children's Miracle Network Hospitals, and this year is no different! We're thrilled to announce the 2017 ESA Foundation Extra Life Challenge. This is a chance to unlock a huge donation for your local Children's Miracle Network Hospital by doing what you do best; Playing Games to Heal Kids. The Internet simply does not have enough bandwidth for us to fully transmit our gratitude. THANK YOU, ESA FOUNDATION! The ESA Foundation's generous $60,000 grant is divided into two prizes that Extra Lifers can unlock for their hospital by working together to raise all they can for the sick and injured kids that Extra Life supports. Prize #1: Top Overall Fundraising - $30,000 2017 Recipient: Seattle Children's Hospital! ESA Foundation is awarding a $30,000 prize to the hospital whose Extra Lifers raise the most money overall by 9:00am Central Time on Sunday, November 5th.. The total will include only funds raised and received by the deadline (all the more reason to get your offline gifts in early or convert them to digital donations). Last year, the San Francisco-Oakland market took home the funds! Okay, but what if YOUR town is not as big as the top dogs on this list? The ESA Foundation has a SECOND prize to recognize the needs of smaller hospitals and the kids they serve. Prize #2: top Fundraising Per Capita - $30,000 2017 Recipient: Stollery Children's Hospital Foundation Using census data for the areas served by our hospitals, an additional award of $30,000 will be unlocked for the hospital with the highest per capita fundraising. To compute per capita we divide the population of the area by the dollars raised for that hospital. The hospital with the highest per capita amount at 9:00 am Central Time on Sunday, November 5th will win. Again, only funds that are raised and received by this time will be counted towards this figure. Note: A hospital can only unlock one award, even if they are the highest for both the overall fundraising and top fundraising per capita. In the event that this happens, the hospital will unlock the overall fundraising grant and the next highest per capita fundraising hospital will unlock that grant. Last year, UVM Children's Hospital in Vermont edged out the competition to win! Working with the ESA and the ESA Foundation continues to make Extra Life and our communities stronger! Now get fundraising and unlock these major achievements! View full article
  16. Hey folks! New captain here, and I've tried to find some information on incentive levels to no avail. In short, I'd like to give some "prizes" away to random donors. I'm imagining something like Kickstarter, where there might be "donation levels" that have different prizes attached to them. Is that possible?

  18. Hey guys! I wanted to share an idea that one of my guild members did over the past weekend. She contacted one of those painting party places and was able to setup a party that benefited Extra Life! Those seem to be popular activities this year, so I suggest reaching out in your local area. She was able to raise a little bit and is planning on expanding it for next year! So if you aren't sure on how to push the fundraising bar up, think outside the box!!!
  19. Has anyone ever had an experience of throwing a fundraiser dinner through a restaurant? My team is looking to throw one, but they will send the check for the donation directly to CMNH, and we were wondering if anyone had a way of having that donation be put towards the extra-life team's goal? If you have any tips or recommendations I'd appreciate it. Thank you!

  22. Wha t is Extra Life? Extra Life, a fundraising program of Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals®, leverages the passion of the gaming community to rally support for our 170 member hospitals. Participants fundraise year-round and pledge to game for 24 hours with one goal: to save and improve the lives of sick and injured kids. Since 2008, Extra Life has raised more than $40 million for member hospitals. https://youtu.be/D7kfCS0ruhc How to participate Sign up: Pledge to play games from your home or online. Play during the 24-hour marathon (Nov 4th) or on any day that works for you! Fundraise & Recruit: Ask your family and friends to donate to your fundraising. Create a team and recruit others to join you! Play games, heal kids: Raise funds, have fun, and help heal kids at your local Children’s Miracle Network Hospital! Why support Extra Life and CMN Hospitals? More than 10 million kids enter Children's Miracle Network Hospital across North America every year. To provide the best care for kids, children’s hospitals rely on donations and community support, as Medicaid and insurance programs do not fully cover the cost of care. Since 1983, Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals has helped fill those funding gaps by raising more than $5 billion, most of it $1 at a time through Miracle Balloon icon campaigns. Extra Life is among various programs that support the nonprofit’s mission to save and improve the lives of as many children as possible. Getting Started •Customize your participant page •Utilize the team captain tools in the Extra Life Dashboard •Use the Extra Life Mobile Fundraising Apps •Make a plan for Game Day •Send a dedicated e-blast •Share (and share often) on your social media channels •Write a blog post Have a question?
