  1. Pokémon Go has proved to be a long-lasting craze with many unique, interesting, and sometimes dangerous stories arising from players going out into the real world to capture the titular creatures. One of the most amazing things to us here at Extra Life, however, is how people in the Extra Life community have been using the game to come together with their community and band together for the kids. The Guilds in Albany, New York and in Minneapolis-St. Paul, Minnesota both organized PokéWalks in their respective areas over the last few days. What exactly is a PokéWalk? People have begun planning events where members of the local community can come together, Pokémon Go players or not, and enjoy a day at a park or other public area. Lures can be placed at PokéStops along the walking route to bring in the Pokémon and the community. In some cases, local businesses along the route have even gotten involved to support participants. In New York, the Albany Guild brought people together to participate in one such PokéWalk on the 16th. Located in and around Albany's Washington Park, hundreds of people turned out to connect and catch Pokémon. By all accounts it was a huge success, even though the servers for Pokémon Go went down. According to Albany Guild president Lucas Fox, @Xeserox: We had about 400 People show up to the event (despite servers being down for the game). We signed up 130+ people in 3 hours. We started sign ups 30 minutes before the official kick off of the event because of the number of people that showed up. And we continued sign ups 30 minutes after the event ended, because our line was still that long. You can find images of the Albany PokéWalk on the Albany Guild page. This was followed independently by members of the Minneapolis-St.Paul, Minnesota Guild working together with local event organisation This Is Geek to hold a PokéWalk in Edina, MN's Centennial Lakes Park on the 17th. Over 2,000 people came to the event, which was merely a test run to see how future walks might go. Guild member, event organizer, and This Is Geek Treasurer Shanna Hartzell described her experience bringing together the community: It was a humbling experience to see well over 2000 people interacting and enjoy each others company. This was a new type of event for Minnesota as a whole. While the servers were down instead of leaving or complaining everyone was talking, sharing stories, tips and going on major nostalgia trips. I am glad that we were able to do what we love; bring amazing people together and shed more light on the good inside of the gaming community. The pictures for that event are over on Facebook page for This Is Geek. Pokémon Go inspires a lot of different opinions and feelings among those who play it and those who don't. However, it is undeniably cool how the app has brought people together over the last week or so that might never have met otherwise. I know there are plans for more of these kinds of events both with and independent of Extra Life, so if you think that a PokéWalk in your local area might be a possibility, go for it! Let's keep this momentum up and bring one another together for fun, friendship, and also for the kids. View full article

  5. Hey there everyone, So to give a brief overview, we have been asked to present 1-2 panels at our biggest events of our Extra Life Guild year on the topic of Extra Life. I have already found a video online that someone recorded of the panel "Gaming for Good" that was held at RTX last year (Extra Life Panel Recording). I have spoken with @LeaveIt2Beaver about it and have decided to follow that same format and topic. I wanted to see what the community would come up with in terms of things that you guys think would be the most important things to touch on during the panel. I've already got alot of things in mind for it but just wanted to open it up a awesome group of Extra Lifers So what do you think are some things you guys can think of for a panel on Extra Life? I look forward to seeing what you all think!
  6. I recently contacted Psyonix, on their Suggestions forum. Requesting a possible Item update. Asking for decal/flag items with the Extra Life Logo on it. Also personally suggested a Ghostbusters DLC pack, with decals, items, flags, and an Ecto 1 usable car. We shall see what comes of it
  7. Guildies, in case you are unfamiliar with the FB algorithms for group communication, the longer someone goes without interacting with the group page or at least a group member, the LESS LIKELY they are to see group topics in their feed. In a nutshell here is how it works, the full article is here. "Affinity is your relationship with users." "Weight is based on the post type. (based on Edgerank)" "Time decay how old is your post?" "there are actually four specific action-points that are used by EdgeRank each time you post. These aren’t necessarily fool-proof guarantees that your post will hit the News Feeds of your fans, but they’re all good indicators of the likelihood of that. The four specific points are these: user’s past interactions with the authoruser’s past interactions with that post typereactions from other users for that particular postamount of complaints or negative feedback on that post"The above was either copied directly or loosely from the article which was written in 2013, doubtless the algorithms have changed in that time but the article is very easy to read and understand, as such it provides a good starting point. Here is Facebook's version These are major reasons we are trying to move to the forums, please get the Tapatalk app for your phone and set it up, then you will get notifications just like FB does, without worrying about missing something important in your feed. Our monthly meetings are awesome, at an awesome location, but we always seem to have the same people, part of this could be a by-product of summer taking its toll on guilds, and part of it could be the way FB algorithms work. I would like love to get our core active group up around 20+ ... by core active I mean monthly attendees at meetings on a regular basis who are actually participating in guild. You are always welcome to bring +1's to meetings, family is awesome too, many of you know I usually have my family there, I count my family as 1 entity so 20 unique regular entities would be the goal I see for the coming time, baby steps folks.
  8. As probably all of us know, next week begins one of the best weeks of the year as E3 will be taking place. Last year Mirror's Edge Catalyst made me nearly jump with joy, even though reviews have pushed me to wait for a price drop. So this year, who of the big 3 are you most looking forward to hear from? What surprises do you hope for? What game and publisher will win E3 this year? And who will be the biggest disappointment? Let's go, light this forum up! - Riccio
  9. Hello! We had a team-building get-together this past week at Rocky's in the Eastern Hills Mall, so here are some photos from that. I had to host on Imgur since these are pretty big and the forum couldn't accommodate. Please feel free to use these however you would like!

  12. Hello! Sorry I haven't been terribly active on these forums, i've been working on a few things and have been keeping myself quite busy with extralife this year, as well as taking up a new craft. I came to ask, how many of our Ottawa Extra-Lifers are actually outside of ottawa? specifically, do we have any streamers or Extra-Life gamers who live in the north bay region? (ie, sudbury, sturgeon falls, Mattawa, North Bay and surrounding areas) I've been doing a LOT of marathon work myself, and i think its time i looked for some help... Doing 6+ marathons a year by yourself can be VERY hard, and i was looking for maybe a few streamers to help out! Maybe get together and throw a few events in a more local area who cant make it to ottawa all the time. If your interested, you can contact me on my twitter @OrcrystGaming for more details. Keep in mind, im not looking only for experienced streamers, but just those with an interest in helping, possibly learning more about streaming, or even just participating in some games or local events and fundraisers!

  14. Thank you to the staff of Cook Children's Hospital for putting the first guild meeting of 2016 together. It really was wonderful to hear about where the funds from the last few years of Extra Life has gone towards. The testimony of the Miracle Family was truly heartfelt and Alex was a fantastic kid that loves video games. Meeting the other Lifers was very encouraging, and to hear what they are doing stirred me up. I would enjoy working the booth at any of the events that you will be attending. Hope to hear from those that were at the meeting... Can't wait to see what's in store for us.

  20. Meeting began at 1:00 p.m. at Deeprun Park in Henrico. Cookout with all sorts of goodies and snacks on a blustery spring (but somehow felt like fall?) day Members present: Jill Mike Keith Rigby Jim Bobby Jackie Kat Ben Ashley Danny Nick Dallon Eduardo Andrew Kyle Brian Collin Vinny 1. Welcome and introductions 2. Role of the guild We help organize volunteers to attend events in the region to sign up people to play in the Extra Life marathon. We do not recruit to specific teams (though if new participants would like to join your team, that’s okay!), and we don’t even necessarily recruit for people to play for CHoR at VCU (though obviously we’d like them to!). We want to get gamers passionate about raising money for kids. We don’t go to events to raise funds. We go to get people excited. Please let Jill, Mike, or Keith know if you have questions about how the guild functions. 3. Review of events We got 16 sign-ups at the Zelda Symphony of the Goddess. Great job! RavenCon charges 80 dollars for a vendor table, so we will not be able to attend formally this year. We’ll have many members in attendance, however, so we’ll still have a presence there. We have a 3:00 p.m. panel on Saturday to talk about Extra Life. Show up and lend us your support! In talks with WizardWorld (9/9-9/11) to have a table there. Set your 3DS to street pass with information about Extra Life when you go to a con! OmegaCon (Aug 26-28) will have an Extra Life table. There’s a 24-hour game room this year and Ben is looking for console games/donations of working consoles to stock the game room. Please let us know if you have anything you’d like to donate! Battlegrounds store game day is in the works! We’ll have a date and more details forthcoming when the information becomes available. Will likely be held late Sept/early Oct. Buffalo Wild Wings on West Broad trivia May 18. Bobby’s team is hosting a trivia night starting at 6 p.m. with kids events (Wed is normally kid’s night). Trivia will start at 8 p.m. and 15% of proceeds go to Extra Life. National Tabletop Day - April 30th! Get out there and game! (and advertise for Extra Life!) Let us know. Slide the City is coming to RVA. Let us know if you have any ideas about hosting a table there. Free Comic Book Day - First Saturday in May - let’s think of ways we can meet up with local comic book geeks! Gamestop midnight releases - Uncharted, Overwatch, Mirror’s Edge, etc this upcoming month. Great month to canvass releases! Clover Hill high school yard sale - Usually in fall (October-ish) and usually big! We should consider getting a table as a guild and selling goods to donate sales proceeds to Extra Life. Misc. Ben works for Verizon and stated his company does charitable donations and other work. Maybe we could do some sort of collaboration with them. Sign up for the forums! They’re how we communicate as a guild and as an organization!
