  1. Bioware joined Microsoft at their E3 presentation for the first extensive showing of their new franchise "Anthem." Players operate as "freelancers" in a science fiction universe, living within the walls of Fort Tarsis. Freelancers are the only people brave and capable enough of leaving the fortress, donning robotic power suits with their own unique loadouts and capabilities. The demo began with a character begging the player to rescue a group of non-freelancers who took a job offer outside the walls. After donning the ranger power armor (a mid-range class with all-around effectiveness), the player is joined by a friend with a "colossus" class suit with heavy attack power. It's unclear if Anthem is completely open world, but once outside of Fort Tarsis, the player seems to be able to move about in any direction through a lush jungle filled with wildlife both large and small. After fleeing a high level creature, the two players split up to take on a small group of scavenger enemies. The player character jets down beneath the surface of a river to breach and surprise the enemy at close range. Anthem will definitely be attempting its own system of rewarding players with loot. After ambushing a large group of enemies and taking them out with a volley of heat-seeking mortar and missile fire, the player picks up a legendary volt rife called "Jarra's Wrath." It's certainly as nonsensical in naming its items as Destiny. Anthem also features weather events that ostensibly change how you tackle objectives, including Shaper Storms. Before the demo concludes, the player character is able to invite at least two more friends to their squad for backup, before flying into a mysterious orb shrouded by the storm. Destiny 2 will have at least a little while to bulk up its defense, though, since Anthem is currently scheduled for a Fall 2018 release. What did you folks think of the demo? Does Anthem's seemingly robust gameplay tickle that shooter itch more than Destiny for you? What do you make of the jungle environment, and do you think Bioware will bring more RPG elements into the mix? Let us know in the comments.
  2. Those absurd Battlegrounds highlight videos are about to get squirrely. Brendan Greene, creator of PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds, announced new content and mechanical updates to the game at the PC Gaming Show at E3 on Monday. Most notably, the update will give players the ability to vault walls and other in-game objects in modest to downright wacky fashion. Needless to say, my favorite is the full somersault. Weather effects will also be coming to Battlegrounds map, including fog, rain (a new form of it, as the original version had a rain effect that dampened noise), and a naturally occurring sunset. The OTS Groza, a new bullpup rifle, is on its way, which can only be obtained from the highly contested loot drops mid-match. If you're a Playunknown's Battlegrounds, do these updates sound appealing? How do you think they will affect the core experience? View full article

  4. Ooblets, from Double Fine and Glumberlands, is a bit of a trip. It's got shades of Pikmin, and it looks about as ridiculous. A new trailer debuted at the PC Gamer Show Monday, featuring some of the customization options the player character can utilize, including wardrobe and hair style changes and the ability to decorate your own house. Ooblets is out on PC and Xbox One in 2018. View full article

  6. Terry Crews is not content with just infiltrating the minds of Overwatch players, PC gaming enthusiasts, and smelly men. He's also slated to star in Microsoft's sandbox juggernaut Crackdown 3. The long awaited third entry in the superhero open-world series arrives November 7, the same day as the Xbox One X launch. Crews stars as Commander Jaxon. Microsoft previously confirmed that Crackdown 3 would be one of its "Play Anywhere" titles, meaning you can play it on either Xbox or PC, no matter where you purchased it. Microsoft showed off a sizzle reel of gameplay from Crackdown 3, featuring plenty of explosions and daring leaps. Make sure to check back with more info on Microsoft's E3 presentation. 8. PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds has been dominating the world of PC gaming with its unique blend of tactical combat and goofy early access shenanigans. Now, PlayerUnknown is bringing his game exclusively to Xbox One later in 2017. It remains to be seen if Battlegrounds will arrive on PlayStation 4 at any point, as early rumors had indicated some sort of port for potentially both consoles. No specific release date has been announced for the Xbox, so we'll have to sit tight. There's sure to be plenty of quality-of-life updates on the PC end, though. Check out the trailer below for a look at the game in action on Xbox One X. View full article

  10. Assassin's Creed: Origins debuted at Microsoft's E3 press event. The debut trailer revealed the world of the first group of people to call themselves assassins in Ubisoft's action franchise. The trailer showed the main character, an egyptian "sheriff" of sorts named Bayak, sliding down the side of a large pyramid, battling armored enemies in a coliseum, firing a multi-shot bow at enemies, and swimming underwater while avoiding creatures like hippos and aggressive crocodiles. A developer from Ubisoft implied this game would detail the very beginning of the assassin order. A longform demo showcased additional gameplay from Origins, detailing new mechanics and stealth maneuvers. Using a trained eagle, Bayak infiltrates the grounds of a local ruler's stronghold. The eagle is able to scout from the sky and mark enemies. Magi was able to use tall grass in the stronghold to sneak up on guards and perform traditional takedowns. The demo concluded with Bayak taking down the ruler with a single bow shot, guiding the arrow's trajectory in slow motion. It's been a while since we had an Assassin's Creed to chew on. What do you think about its Egyptian setting and new gameplay abilities? View full article

  12. EA showed off the first major look at Need for Speed: Payback, and it looks positively smashing. As part of a small team of highway hit-and-run thieves, players can perform acts of vehicular daring and robbery. Payback’s E3 trailer showed off the team ambushing a guarded truck carrying a luxury sports car along a desert highway. Similar to the Burnout franchise, players can smash and sideswipe enemy vehicles to demolish them, resulting in a cinematic slow-motion camera shot. The trailer concludes with your teammate leaping aboard the semi-truck and making off with the target vehicle, a clear call back to “The Fast & The Furious’” highway truck robbery scene. Check out the trailer for a full look at the game. View full article

  16. To my fellow Extra Lifers. (Especially the ones in Los Angeles) Me and my wife will be going to E3 this year and I was wanting to offer up some of our time if you guys do end up getting a booth this year like we did last year the get people signed up. I know it is months away, but I just wanted to offer it up if you needed it.
  17. So I'm very behind in getting this posted, but I'm finally doing it! I was lucky enough to win 2 tickets to attend E3 and I wasn't going to miss the chance, so I asked a friend and we were off. The trip was a blast! Everyone and everything was amazing and I didn't want to leave LA . It was great getting to meet some fellow Extra Life LA guild members! There were 2 games that were a highlight for me - Zelda and Final Fantasy XV. They were both amazing and beautiful. Words can't explain how excited I am for both of them. I got to meet Iga! My friends were jealous. I have many other pictures and did a 'review', but I'm not a critic and I loved everything. Overall it was amazing and I hope someday I am lucky enough to go back! I just wanted to share a peek with everyone here.
  18. But this trailer makes me want to. Anybody know about the game play of this series?
  19. So I'm very late on the Sony Mega-Thread, I was out last night and couldn't catch the conference live. If anyone wants to post about it, please feel free, but I'll sum up the announcements as I watch them this morning. Introduction: So I'm all about showmanship, but the full orchestra and chorus was possibly a little over the top. Cool, but over the top. However, the live orchestra continuing on throughout the performance was a nice touch. I didn't even realize it was a thing until most of the way through the God of War trailer. God of War (4?) - Way to start big! The reveal of Kratos, the crowd erupting, everything about this reveal was what I love about E3. Also, this looks like a major shift for the franchise, Far Cry meets God of War meets Uncharted? Either way, super psyched for this! Glad they are going in what seems to be both a very different and yet familiar route post original trilogy, a lot of games could learn from this! Days Gone - Somewhat cryptic, but looks like a zombie/outbreak game, based around motorcycling with an ex-biker gang leader. Guess we'll see more soon, hopefully. The Last Guardian - Finally, something more about this game! The art style I'm sure looked great at the event, but didn't transfer well on my terrible monitor. Doesn't matter, though, we finally have a date, October 25th! Shocked that we'll be seeing it this year, and I'll believe it more when I see it. Horizon Zero Dawn- New IP up next, with a gameplay demo. Machines are the dominant species now, with humans seeming to be living in a unique hybrid of technologically advanced and still primitive fashion. Very Far Cry-esque in the overworld and loot gathering sense. Also, great to see a strong female hero at the center of this game! Cool rangling mechanic reminiscent of Red Dead. Boss fights seem difficult and require both skill and strategy. I'm sold on this! Detroit Become Human - Interesting android game, something based on Bladerunner? The dialogue is unfortunately bad. Crime scene investigation, various outcomes based on your decision making, this is a futuristic L.A. Noire, but again, unfortunate dialogue. PS VR - Resident Evil 7 - January 24, 2017 - This is what I expected will be the biggest showing for Sony, especially as they won't showcase the Neo. Of course this VR demo has to be set in a completely dark house with your line of sight acting as a flashlight. I really want VR to take off, but I hope it isn't over-saturated with horror games! After some wandering in a creepy house, this video took a very sudden shift into a bizarre trailer. WAIT, this is Resident Evil Game?! Ok, looked interesting, I got more of a Silent Hill feel to it, so I guess we'll see. Apparently there will be a demo soon. Also the entire game can be played on VR. Playstation VR - October 13th - $399 - with 50 games supported by the end of the year. (all games below are VR games) Farpoint - Planetary Exploration Game, with an action component Star Wars Battlefront - X-wing VR flying missions will be added. Batman Arham VR - Video trailer with a monologue by the Joker, but no gameplay shown, just coming October 2016. #Wearthecowl (End VR) Final Fantasy XV - Nothing really new showcased about this game, but there were some good shots of the summons, and the music was done by Afrojack. Oh wait, there's a VR component...ok, whatever makes Sony happy. Please, no matter what you do Sony, just don't overkill with the VR, I don't need a VR experience in every single game I play! Call of Duty Infinite Warfare - First person space shooter, big mechs, bigger ships, free flight, you've got my attention! No word yet if this is VR, but if it is, I expect this will make a lot of people dizzy! I dream of space flight VR games, but the quick movements and lack of perspective, that's going to be rough for a lot of gamers. Awesome, seamless jump from space flight to FPS! The main character seems extremely bullet spongey, definite throwback to old school FPS in that sense. Ok Sony, you got me, I had no idea this was Infinite Warfare until the title reveal. Look, it might be solid, it looks like it could be a lot of fun, but take the damn CoD name off of it. You've strayed so far with this series, you should just start fresh and make a new game simply called Warfare, with Modern Warfare, Advanced Warfare, and now Infinite Warfare, maybe then I would take it more seriously. Moving onward, though, got to see some video of Modern Warfare Remastered, which looks good. I do wish I could play this game on its own without Infinite Warfare. Crash Bandicoot - Remastered versions of Crash, Crash 2 and Crash Warped for PS4, and Crash will appear in Skylanders in October. Not a skylanders fan, so moving on... Lego Star Wars: The Force Awakens - Available Now - Cool, I guess this should've been expected sooner, as opposed to waiting until the trilogy was over. The best part of this game is that the voice actors are original, props on that! Also, available now is good. For all of the people Microsoft brought out, Sony brings out Hideo fucking Kojima ...well done. Glad to see that you aren't just bringing people out for the sake of it. And now a new game from Kojima with Norman Reedus and a baby...it isn't the Silent Hill everyone got excited about, but awesome to see the IP is still living. Death Stranding - So this trailer is not Silent Hill trippy, but a naked Norman Reedus with a baby that disappears, stranded on an island with a lot of dead fish and five people just floating in the sky...yep, no typos there. Spider-man! made by Insomniac Games!!! - Love the re-imagined suit, glad this is set in a world where Spidey is well developed and aware of his powers, hopefully no origin story. Great trailer. Can't figure out the voice actor, though, sadly. Days Gone (again) - Now we get to see gameplay of the new IP that practically opened the show. Motorcycle riding will definitely be crucial in fast travel. In this demo we see again that the demo players are off in the wings as opposed to on-stage, I like that Sony is keeping the focus on the screen and not the people in front of it. Oh, crafting seems big, pistol with a car part attached to it...also, wtf was that? Ok, typical zombies...but damn the swarming effects, it's like World War Z. a never-ending flow of zombies! I know it's a gameplay trailer, so our hero can't die, but the swarm is really making this tense! It's fast, it's never-ending, and there are a lot of narrow escapes, this is everything that is horrifying about the legit zombie apocalypse. Very cool IP. That concludes the showcase, which definitely was different from Microsoft. I won't say one was better than the other, I just feel that Microsoft put their emphasis on the system features and upcoming system releases, while Sony banked on all of the upcoming games. Depending on what you want from E3, you'll probably feel one "won" but either way both showcases gave me something to look forward to. Some of what we saw will also be available for Xbox One, so in that regard Sony did some of the work for Microsoft, and I'd presume that a lot of what Microsoft shared with Project Scorpio is a reflection of the Neo, and what we can expect in that system. The biggest defining point is that this was a very different and more streamlined presentation, and I appreciate that a bit more than Microsoft's traditional approach, which was clunky and hard to watch at times. Either way, if you've read this far, what are your thoughts about the Sony E3 Presenation?
  20. In taking a note from Reddit, I'm going to create some Mega-threads for people who want to discuss E3 and the various press conferences that will be taking place over the new few days. I hope this is a bit easier than everyone posting about the individual games we all see and get hyped about. I wish I could be live-tweeting or sharing this with you all in another fashion, but I think watching the stream at my desk (and all the other streams tomorrow) is dodgy enough. Update: Screw it, I'm adding notes from the stream. - New Xbox One S - Smaller, HDR, 4k Output, New Controller, up to 2TB Hard-Drive, no date as far as I saw. - Xbox One Play Anywhere - Play games on Xbox One and Windows 10, achievements and saves will transfer across platform, cross-play supported. - Gears 4 - Play Anywhere supported, Horde Mode 3.0 announced, Game Demo (Personal Opinion - as someone who hasn't played much Gears, the demo looks really lame.. I'm not talking about the gameplay, which I'm sure is fun to play, I'm just talking about the fact that this was likely the tutorial level, and the dialogue and such was just super cliche and uninspired. Then again, I have no idea if that's how Gears rolls.) No surprise, Gears inspired controller announced as well, drops October 11th. - Killer Instinct - New exclusive character to Killer Instinct, General Raam. - Next up, Video Preview, beautiful backdrops, amazing landscapes, super realistic imagery...oh, damn, it's a Forza game...Forza Horizon 3 looks absolutely gorgeous! Gameplay demo followed, two on PC, two on Xbox One, all driving different types of cars. September 27 - Recore - I've heard about this game, but cool to see what it is. Looks like a new puzzle platformer with robots, kind of like a Pikmin system in that they all work in different ways. - Final Fantasy XV - Missed a lot of the introduction because people at work keep coming in, but looks like a simple gameplay demo. Not the best showcase of the game, but just glad to see a standard FF game. Drops September 30th. - The Division Underground - June 28th (30 day exclusivity) - Just a video showcase, nothing more - Battlefield 1 - October 21st - Xbox One and EA Access members can get early access October 13th - followed by new trailer, some gameplay was embedded and it looks pretty! - Xbox Live Update - Background Music (finally...), Language Region Independence, and Cortana on Xbox One. Three new updates. 1.) Clubs will be a new thing on Xbox Live, ways to create groups for your friends and that can be open points for people to connect. 2.) Looking for Groups on Xbox Live - means to put a call out for people to play with. 3.) Arena on Xbox Live - Built in tournament platform through Live, seems like it will range from casual to professional. EA is signed on to host tournaments. - Minecraft - cross platform functionality introduced for all mobile devices, including android, ios, and windows 10. Stream started lagging out, so can't get much from this one. Realms, sounds like individual servers will be a thing? Sorry, idk. So much lag, and sadly I'm not a minecraft guy. This was a really really bad part of the stream, overly rehearsed and super lame jokes. Also, minecraft has VR functionality. All of this is available now, and a texture pack is now available for the mobile devices. Add-ons coming this fall. Again, this was really painful to watch, lag, horrible jokes, terrible delivery, just the sheer awkwardness of it all...yeah, please move on! - Commercial Break! - Make your own controller...welp, gotta make money somehow. No idea of the cost, but now you can go and customize your own Xbox One controller with color and text. - Inside - June 29th - really cryptic trailer for the new game from the creator of Limbo, and then no further explanation, just that it's amazing and it comes out later this month. Limbo is free on Xbox One starting today. - ID@Xbox - Showcase of games in development from Independent Developers currently on Xbox One, similar to games in Alpha or Beta on Steam. Briefly featured were The Culling, Stardew Valley, Everspace, and more. ARK will be Play Anywhere compatible. - We Happy Few, another ID game, was showcased for early release next month. It's tough to describe, but go check it out, it's got the same aesthetic as Bioshock and feautres a storyline where people take Joy in pill form and everyone in this world wear masks. So bizarre, but holy hell this looks absolutely amazing! Highlight of the press conference! - GWENT - Stand Alone Game - cross platform, with a single player campaign. New mechanics and completely overhauled visually. Playgwent.com to register for the Beta, coming September. - Tekken 7 - Cinematic trailer of Akuma and ??? that led right into gameplay trailer, apparently that's how the game will play, seamless transition from cinematic to fight. Available early 2017. Not a fighting game fan, so not sure who else was in the trailer. Either way, Tekken Tag 2 will be free for Gold members as well this week. - Dead Rising 4 - Looks like more of what we saw in Dead Rising 3, no other way to explain it. Cool weapons, including a Triceratops flamethrower helmet. Releasing Holiday 2016. - Scalebound - Co-op was the main feature. up to 4 players all with their own dragons and a gameplay feature to showcase it. While it was a co-op feature, this seemed like a very independent experience, more in the idea that you play with other people around you instead of there being a very big teamwork focus. Also, not available until 2017. - Sea of Thieves - Cinematic trailer, graphics gave me a very Secrets of Monkey Island feel. Developed by Rare. Gameplay feature - pre-recorded from a testing group that had many different crews. Major co-op element here as you can't sail without a crew, particularly because the person steering can't see in front of them as the sail is in the way. Open world action, crews are free to interact as they please with other people int he world. Could be amazingly fun with a dedicated group of people. - State of Decay 2 - Tagline "Nobody Survives Alone" - Coming in 2017, major co-op zombie survival game. Focuses on realistic ideas of setting up camp and not being alone. - Halo Wars 2 - Holy shit, holy shit, holy sh...oh, it's just Halo Wars...Ok, still cool, but the trailer showcases a lot of the theoretical stuff I'll watch happening, but damnit if I don't want to be in the middle of it. Week long beta is launched today through June 20th, and the game will release sometime? No mention of release as far as I heard. Damn, this is a long conference...I'm sure they're wrapping up, just waiting for the "One more thing..." moment. Final thoughts, cool stuff announced, but Microsoft seemed to double-down on the features and new slim system more than the titles. There were some big things kind of announced, but it wasn't anything show-stopping...oh wait, I started to write this during the closing monologue. - Project Scorpio- And the newest system was announced, called Project Scorpio at the moment. This is different than the Xbox One S, and it's completely backwards compatible. Not sure if this a completely new system or just a revamped Xbox One, but I also guess that depends on your definition of the idea. As it will still utilize all the same games and controllers, I guess this is just another version of the Xbox One, just supercharged, but it might be similar to the new Nintendo 3DS, there might be exclusives for Scorpio that won't work with the One or One S. Coming in Holiday of 2017 as well, so start saving up. The early announcement was explained so that developers as well can being to play for the Scorpio. I guess that's a pretty big Mic-drop, especially as Sony doesn't have the 4.5 to showcase. Cool, so continuing with my wrap-up, the One more thing moment was pretty huge. I think that further reinforces what I said earlier, a showcase for features and systems, but kinda lacking in the game content. Still, some really cool stuff to look forward too. Showcase sidenote, the audience gets a real immersive experience, there's dynamic floor lighting and smoke effects. Particularly I noticed during Sea of Thieves as the floor was lit to be swirling waves.

What surprises do you hope for? What game and publisher will win E3 this year? And who will be the biggest disappointment? Let's go, light this forum up! - Riccio
  22. On Monday June 13 there will be the E3 Experience at the The Avenues Stadium 20 Movie Theater. It will be a sold out screening. I been at the last two and will be watching this one as well. There is a load potential if anyone wants to take advantage of this event for recruits. Personally, I will be going to watch Sony's press conference.
