  1. Fans of Horizon Zero Dawn will soon have a new reason to dive back into Guerrilla Games' post-apocalyptic world. The Frozen Wilds is the game's first piece of story DLC and it arrives later this year. Aloy travels to a new land in search of "the mountain", which may contain vital information. Unfortunately, the mountain is guarded by a powerful beast. Perhaps this foe is a new type of machine? Hopefully players get to answer that question sooner rather than later. Take a look at the announcement trailer below. Are you excited for the Frozen Wilds? What new enemies or mechanics would you like to see appear?
  2. Metro 2033 and Metro: Last Night are among the most acclaimed first-person shooters to emerge last generation. After several years since the last game and a current-gen remastering, a third entry in the post-apocalyptic series was unveiled today on Microsoft's stage: Metro Exodus. A gameplay demo began with the protagonist exploring the familiar network of dingy underground tunnels. As the player explores the dank caverns, he encounters the mutated, rat-like beasts from the previous games. The monsters relentlessly pursue him until he's able to barely escape their jaws by fleeing to the surface. After a serene yet eerie trek through a ruined village, a larger behemoth appears and suddenly charges the player. The protagonist quickly uses his crossbow to shoot an explosive arrow to stun the beast, followed by other shots to send it over the edge of a cliff. The demo concludes with the player ziplining across a large crater and hitching a ride aboard a steam train with a female companion in wait. Metro Exodus seems to retain the bleak mood of the previous series though I'm curious to see if the survival elements continue to play a large role. We'll find out when the game ships to Xbox One and PC (other platforms are currently unknown) sometime next year. View full article

  4. Recognizing the enthusiasm behind its modding community, Bethesda announced the launch of Creation Club during its June 11 E3 press conference. The feature will support The Elder Scrolls V Skyrim: Special Edition and Fallout 4. Creation Club will be a "collection of in-game content" where players can create new weapons, armor, outfits, accessories, crafting, and housing features and new gameplay enhancements. A credit system will be used to grant assets in-game. The content itself is reportedly made by Bethesda Game Studios itself as well as outside developers and "the very best community creators." This influence from outside devs apparently made it so that the content provided through Creation Club will be compatible with save games, achievements and official add-ons. Expect to see Creation Club's launch Summer 2017 on Xbox One, PlayStation 4 and PC. Are you a Bethesda modder? How would you use Creation Club? View full article

  6. With music one would not usually associate with the serious dreary winters of Skyrim, Bethesda released an official look at The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim on the Switch . After reminding viewers of the gorgeous landscapes of the beloved game, a character seemingly out of sync makes an appearance: Link. Or at least Link in his Amiibo form. A hand then appears to tap the Breath of the Wild Link interact with the Switch Screen. Then we hear the oh-so-familiar treasure chest soundbite, and a piece of the Zelda universe is in the world of Elder Scrolls. The player then opens a chest and gains some signature gear, the Master Sword and Link's blue ensemble. We then get a look at the controller capabilities. In a move that embraces Skyrim's core gameplay, each of the controllers represents a weapon in dual-handed combat. Both controllers are used when handling a bow as well. The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim releases for Nintendo Switch this fall. What do you think of Link's gear making an appearance in Skyrim? How do you think the Switch will handle a massive game like Skyrim?

  12. By far one of the strangest and most intriguing titles to debut at the Xbox Media Briefing Sunday was The Artful Escape. The game stars Francis Vendetti, a rock prodigy and the apparent nephew of a celebrated musician who embarks on a "psychedelic, multidimensional adventure to inspire his stage persona." Developer Beethoven & Dinosuar describe their debut title as "an action, adventure, exploration, narrative driven, musical-laser-light-battle kind of game." After watching the bizarre yet alluring trailer, that sounds about right. The Artful Escape is "coming soon" to Xbox One and PC. View full article

  14. During today's PC Gaming Show, Cliff Blenzinski's announced the release date and price for his multiplayer arena first-person shooter, Lawbreakers. Prepare to take the fight to the skies on PC and PlayStation 4 August 3 for a cool $29.99. Lawbreakers gameplay emphasizes verticality and maneuverability thanks to it's anti-gravity gameplay. Despite being off your feet for much of combat, players don't just float around helplessly. The action is frantic and intense due to the plethora of angles opponents can strike from. The trailer below does a good job of demonstrating the title's insane moment-to-moment gameplay. If you want to take Lawbreakers for a spin before you buy, developer Boss Key will hold a final closed beta from June 30 to July 4 that you can sign up for on the game's official website. Do you think Lawbreaker's unique spin on arena multiplayer can separate it from the genre's competitors? View full article

  16. After much speculation and numerous leaks, Mario + Rabbid Kingdom Battle had its official unveiling at Ubisoft's E3 presentation. Nintendo's Shigeru Miyamoto took the stage with Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot to pitch this strange partnership to Rabbid and Mushroom Kingdom enthusiasts around the globe. The title has been in the works for three years and is being developed by Ubisoft’s European studios. A tactical turn-based adventure, Mario, Luigi, and Peach team up with the Rabbids (wearing the outfits of their Nintendo allies) to battle not-so-nice Rabbids. Miyamoto promised "great layers of strategy and tactics" in the experience. The party explores several colorful locales with designated battle zones triggering combat. Encounters take an XCOM-esque approach, with players taking turns to position characters across various maps, placing them in strategic locations such as destructible cover points and launching attacks via their arm cannons. Party members can use tandem abilities, such as a Rabbid climbing atop Mario’s feet and Mario launching it to a higher area. Another clip showed Mario and Luigi chaining together blaster attacks to juggle other characters. Mario + Rabbids Kingdom Battle arrives exclusively for Nintendo Switch on August 29. 18. South Park made not one but two appearances at Ubisoft's 2017 E3 press conference. The first was the expected update on South Park: The Fractured But Whole, the second was a brand new mobile game. But first, the update: Another trailer called "Time to Take a Stand" was revealed with a focus on the drama driving the plot. Plenty of cameos from the show were had and there were glimpses of combat. Preordering will unlock bonus Towelie content. The game has undergone a slew of delays, with its original release date set for December 2016. The new trailer came with an updated release date, now set for October 17, 2017, for PC, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. The title is set to have a playable demo at E3. A mobile take on the South Park universe made a surprise reveal during the conference as well. South Park Phone Destroyer will be a real-time strategy collectible card game set to "create a new brand of mobile role-playing game." It will also feature multiplayer. It has the vague release date of 2017 and will be on both Android and iOS. Are you pumped for the South Park titles? Do you think Fractured But Whole will live up to its predecessor? 20. The Crew 2 showed off its open world prowess through a cinematic announcement trailer during the Ubisoft conference this afternoon. A focus was placed on the setting which is described as "the entire US of A." In order to differentiating itself from its 2014 predecessor, The Crew 2 will expand past traditional driving to include more types of motorized gameplay. Off-road driving capabilities were demonstrated for land, water and air vehicles. Those interested to get behind the wheel before the game's release can sign up for the game's beta. The Crew 2 has a release window of early 2018. View full article

  22. Ubisoft showed a brief but tantalizing teaser trailer for a new VR title called Transference. A live-action video starring Elijah Wood introduced a concept that aims to bring together film and video games. According to the game's description, players explore "a destructive tale of a man’s obsession as you explore his digitally recreated memories." Information from the trailer's description also suggests that players will enter the minds of several troubled test subjects. Check out the cryptic video below. 24. Those absurd Battlegrounds highlight videos are about to get squirrely. Brendan Greene, creator of PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds, announced new content and mechanical updates to the game at the PC Gaming Show at E3 on Monday. Most notably, the update will give players the ability to vault walls and other in-game objects in modest to downright wacky fashion. Needless to say, my favorite is the full somersault. Weather effects will also be coming to Battlegrounds map, including fog, rain (a new form of it, as the original version had a rain effect that dampened noise), and a naturally occurring sunset. The OTS Groza, a new bullpup rifle, is on its way, which can only be obtained from the highly contested loot drops mid-match. If you're a Playunknown's Battlegrounds, do these updates sound appealing? How do you think they will affect the core experience? View full article
