    2019 Kickoff Meeting

    until

Also wanted to make sure for head count purposes that my RSVP has a +1 as well.
  2. The best way to get to the Fitzgerald during Artscape is off of North Ave just past the entrance to 83. Take North Ave East past 83 and make a right on to Maryland Ave. It will likely be blocked off before you get to Mt. Royal, but just take the right at the traffic light just before Mt. Royal (W Oliver St). Your only option from there should be to turn into the Fitzgerald but it's the big parking garage on your right. I hope that helps!
  3. Just a reminder that today's meeting is now ONLY on Discord! Hope to hear from you all :D
  4. Hi there and welcome! It's awesome to have you here. It was great meeting you and hopefully I'll see you at the kickoff!
  5. Hey everybody, it's less than 24 hours until game day and I just wanted to wish you all the best of luck! Make sure to send reminders to friends / family today and tomorrow, but most of all, HAVE FUN! Feel free to message me here or on Discord if you have any questions or concerns. Thank you all, and keep being awesome. ~ Drew

    Baltimore Comic Con

    until

Sounds good, we will see you then! Just FYI, James and I will be there tomorrow, but we only have two badges for the booth, so you will need to buy your own ticket to get in. Also the Extra Life booth is in the far back near the bistro food shop. Thanks! ~ Drew

    Otakon

    until

No worries! Whatever you can do, we are very thankful for On my side, I have to be in NJ by 2:00 on Saturday, so I don't think I'll be able to take any shifts, but I can be around all day on Friday and Sunday if needed.
  10. Hey everybody! My name is Drew, and I'm with the Baltimore Guild. We have a table confirmed for Otakon and since it's in DC this year, I thought I would reach out and see if anyone would be able to help us staff the table. Otakon is one of the busiest recruitment events of the year for us, so any help you can give would be greatly appreciated! If you're able to help at all, please let us know on our official calendar event: Thanks! ~ Drew
  11. Hey everybody! Otakon is a little over a week away and we're in need of volunteers. Otakon is one of our busiest events of the year, so it would be great if we could get a lot of table coverage without burning people out. If you're going to be there and would like to help out (or if you don't already have a badge and want to see what all the fuss is about) please head over to the forums and respond to our calendar event: http://community.extra-life.org/calendar/event/1275-otakon/ Even if you can only help out for a couple hours, every little bit helps! Thanks guys, and keep up the great work.
  12. until

I can do the 12-6 shift on Friday.
  13. until

Unfortunately I am leaving for vacation with my family early Saturday morning. I'll be driving up to PA on Friday night, but I can help out on Friday afternoon if need be.

I'm sorry that you'll be missing the wedding, but that's great that you'll be able to volunteer! Any time you can help out would be greatly appreciated, just let us know when you plan to be at the table. Don't worry, we make it a point not to leave new people alone at the table if we can help it! Thanks, Drew

    Awesome Con

    until

In light of us not having a table I'm going to be up in NJ visit some friends of mine. I'm definitely sad about not being able to meet David Tennant, though!
  16. Thanks again for everyone who came out to help at this event, and an extra special thank you to our first time volunteers! I hope this was a good experience for you to learn a bit about what staffing tables is like without being overwhelmed at a large scale event. Thanks again for taking the time out of your busy schedules to help us get the word out about Extra Life!

  21. Thanks for posting the recap! I'm excited to be serving as President again this year, and I know we can hit our goals! This is a good lineup of events for the year, but as always if anyone has any ideas or knows of an event they think we should be at, please let us know. Also if anyone isn't familiar with the Smithsonian Arcade, here is some more information about the event in general: http://americanart.si.edu/calendar/saam-arcade/index.cfm

    until

At this time I'm free to man the table all day on Friday, the morning shift on Saturday, and all day on Sunday
  23. I would definitely agree that one person would be sufficient to cover this event in the future unless the attendance grows substantially. Even though it's highly unlikely that this event will ever hit the 10 signups per hour suggested by the handbook, I still think it's worth attending and doing what we can, unless there is a direct conflict with a bigger event. Every little bit helps! As far as strategies go, I'm not convinced the monitors with the CMN children stories really accomplished anything. Only a handful of people even looked at the monitor and even then they watched a few seconds and moved on. I think having something on display could be good, but it would probably be more beneficial to have something like an attractive splash page with some talking points or an FAQ or something like that. Something that people can take a quick glance at and get a better idea of what we're about and/or attract people to the table. Any ideas for something like this would be greatly appreciated! I would be happy to dust off my digital painting / animation skills if we think something like that would work. For the candy problem, I know we had talked about this a bit at Baltimore Comic Con, but getting one of those collapsible shelves for the table would be a good addition. We could keep the candy and other prizes on display where people can see them, but out of easy reach. Since we are a charity I don't really want to say no to people (especially kids) who come up to grab some candy, but at the same time these are all out of pocket expenses for us and it can add up. Plus that kind of traffic doesn't really get us any traction. Also one thing we might want to consider changing is keeping the fliers for volunteering away from the front of the table as well. Many people will walk by and just grab a flier or take one as an excuse to stop talking to us (lol). We usually end up having to explain that those are the volunteer fliers and hand them a participant flier. I think it might be better if we keep them on hand and then give them to people who are talkative and seem very interested in Extra Life. The vast majority of people aren't going to be interested in volunteering and I don't want to confuse them. I think those were all the thoughts I had, thanks for posting this and helping out at the table!
  24. I talked to Cindy at the meeting last weekend and she loved the idea. She needs to check with the hospital and see if it's possible or if there's any health code issues we need to worry about. I will let you know when I have any updates!
  25. Thanks again to everyone who came out, it was great seeing so many new faces and meeting everyone! Hopefully you can make it to our next meeting
