About Me

Since first hearing about the charity in 2010, Extra-Life has come to mean a great deal to myself, my family and all of my friends.  We first heard about the 24-hour marathon on an podcast and thought it would be fun to participate.  We signed up to join IGN's team and even received a personal phone call from a couple of the editors, who thanked us for our participation and encouraged us in our fundraising.  Having been a big fan of their work, this was a very special moment.  In all honesty, I didn't think we'd raise any money, so I was very humbled when my friends and I raised over $600 for Duke Children's Hospital in Durham, NC!

Each year, my best friend Tony and I would host the event and each year, the participation, enthusiasm and most importantly, the fundraising grew and grew.  In 2013, my house was practically at full capacity, with more than sixteen TV's and countless people doing their part, helping us raise over $2,000!

Fast forward to 2014.  I attended a meeting at the Duke Children's Hospital offices that would change my involvement with Extra-Life drastically.  The charity started their "guild" program, designed to spread the word of this wonderful organization in local communities.  I took over as president of the Raleigh-Durham Guild and helped lead an extremely passionate group of local gamers who want to make a difference and get as many people involved with Extra-Life as possible.  Through all their hard work and efforts, in 2014, we were able to raise an astounding $7,860 for the kids at Duke.

The highlight for me though, was being chosen by Duke Children's Hospital to travel to Orlando, Florida and represent Extra-Life at the Children's Miracle Network Champions Conference.  I got to meet children and fellow Extra-Life leaders from across the nation.  To say it was humbling would be an understatement.  I was very honored and grateful.  It was a weekend I will never forget....emotional to say the least.

In 2015, it is my personal goal to raise $3,000 and help the Raleigh-Durham Guild raise $10,000 as a whole.  Please help me support a cause that I truly live and breathe.  I am so thankful to everyone who has donated not only their money, but their time, effort and passion.  I've barely started my journey with Extra-Life.  This charity has become my life and I'm not anywhere close to slowing down.

For the kids,

Andrew Nicol
