  1. So I'll be doing my marathon a bit early this year due to schedule conflicts. I'll be starting at 8:00 am this Saturday, 10/24! I'd really appreciate any support I can get, even if that means just hanging out in the stream for 5 minutes. Here are the links: Extra-life page: http://www.extra-life.org/index.cfm?fuseaction=donorDrive.participant&participantID=140649 Facebook event: https://www.facebook.com/events/830795317041701/ Twitch Channel: http://www.twitch.tv/shyguymcfly83/
  2. Hey. I just recently did some raffles and giveaways on my stream last week. I had several different items to give away, some small, some big. So I selected 3 of the bigger items, and made those "donation only". You had to donate at least $5 to be entered into the raffle for any of those items. The rest of the stuff I did random free raffles for people in the chat room. For the bigger items, I just used old school names in a bucket to pick the winners. For the free ones, I used the raffle feature in Moobot. It was really simple. You just open the raffle, tell everyone if they want to enter to type !raffle in the chat, and then just push a button to select a random winner. Couldn't have been easier. As far as letting people know about the raffle, just put the word out in as many different places as possible. I was posting all over on Facebook, Twitter, forums, etc. My turnout was still a little smaller than I would have liked, but in the end it was still successful and everyone had a great time. Hope this helps. Oh, and as far as showing the items during the stream, I would just occasionally mention that we'll be doing another raffle soon, and of course I would show the actual item on webcam. And for the bigger items, I just kept mentioning those throughout the stream, reminding people that if they donate they would be automatically entered to win one of those.
  3. Just wanted to say a quick thank you to anyone who showed up, hosted, tweeted, etc. The stream was a huge success! We ended up raising $300, which is only $100 short of my goal for the year! The prizes were a huge hit, so I may have to look into how to get more for the November stream. Thanks again to anyone who supported me!
  4. So tomorrow's the big day! Just wanted to give this thread one last bump and ask for any kind of retweets, facebook posts, Twitch hosts, or any other kind of support anyone can give. It's all greatly appreciated. Just as a reminder, we'll be doing giveaways all day. More prizes have been added since my last update, so we'll have a ton of stuff to give away. I'm super excited and can't wait!
  5. Great idea. Mine's in my signature also. @ShyguyMcFly83
  6. Thanks for the support everyone! I appreciate each and every view, follow, tweet, FB post, etc. We can use all the support we can get. And thanks for the potential host, Battery_H! I'll be sure to follow you and return the favor some time. And stephybot, we're going to try to keep it fresh by switching games kind of often. We probably will spend the longest on NES Tetris though, so I can definitely see how the music in that one could drive people insane. We'll probably turn it pretty low and hopefully keep people entertained by our witty banter :-P Also, as an exciting update, thanks to the fine folks over at Game Over Videogames, I will have a few items to give away during the stream! There will be a few Tetris swag items and maybe even a copy of NES Tetris from my own personal collection, and the grand prize will be a $50 Game Over Gift card! So spread the word, and be sure to tune in on the day for you chance to win some cool prizes!
  7. I've decided to do a 12 hour mini-marathon coming up in May. The marathon will of course be streamed live for your viewing pleasure. I have tentatively set the date as Saturday, May 16th from 8 A.M. to 8 P.M. My wife and I will be playing just about every version of Tetris we own, ranging all the way from the originals on NES and Gameboy, all the way up to Tetris Ultimate on PS4. We'll probably try to close out the marathon with the original NES Tetris and hopefully make some personal best high scores. Please head over to my Twitch page, which I will keep updated should anything change, and feel free to give me a follow while you're there . I can use all the support I can get. http://www.twitch.tv/shyguymcfly83
  8. So I was having issues with my stream looking terrible. Skipping, lagging, stuttering, etc. I tried everything. I changed from using XSplit to the default software that came with my Elgato capture card, and still had the same issues. I tried setting all settings as low as they could go, and that would work for a little while, but after a few minutes the issues would start happening again. It was so bad that my stream was basically unwatchable. After lots of troubleshooting, I figured out that Gigabyte (my laptop's manufacturer) installs a "LAN Optimizer" program on the computer by default, which is meant to prioritize certain apps in different situations. And, lo and behold, none of the apps I was using to stream were set at high priority. So basically, this software was throttling my streaming software. I like the idea of this LAN Optimizer app, so instead of just disabling it all together, I decided to just go ahead and set XSplit and the Elgato software as high priority. This solved all my issues immediately. Just figured I'd throw my experience out there for anyone else who may end up having similar issues.
  9. http://www.twitch.tv/shyguymcfly83 Just started streaming not too long ago. Still figuring some stuff out, but overall having a great time, and can't wait to stream for Extra-Life this year. Right now I'm sticking to mostly old school stuff, like recently I've been playing Super Metroid. I'd love to see some fellow Extra-Lifers in the chat. I stream almost daily around 9:30 PM CST. Hope to see you there!
  10. Elgato Game Capture HD user here, and I love it. Haven't had any issues with it. I use it for streaming anything from NES to PS4.
