Hello all, I've been video gaming for over nearly thirty years, collecting games and systems long the way: everything from classics like 2600, NES, SNES, Genesis, to more obscure systems like Virtual Boy, Pong clones, and the Astrocade. I've also been recently getting into tabletop gaming. While I've known about Extra Life for a few years now, this is the first time I'm trying to get involved. I'm also looking for some advice on running a large-scale event. I work at the College of Physicians of Philadelphia (you may know us from the Mütter Museum), and I am exploring the possibility of hosting an EL event at the College. We have tons of event space and I am eager to fill those spaces with games, all the better if it is for a good cause. I just wanted to get some advice/tips about hosting an event. I'm sure many people do them on their own or with groups of friends but have any of you host any kind of large-scale event? I'm excited to be a part of the cause. Even if I don't host something for work, I'd like to do something on my own.

I joined Extra Life 3 years ago on a whim just to see if I could do the 24 hour gaming challenge. After that game day I got a message to join the local guild. I did that and from there found the twitch side of EL. I applied to become a mod and have met so many incredible people and have accomplished alot. It's done wonders for my mental health alone. But then last november I learned about Maddox. Maddox was a local teenager who had terminal cancer and wanted to do his own "game day stream" to help raise money. His goal was to be remembered as a champion and not just another kid with cancer. I, with the help of guild president Richard Moser (Yinz all know him, haha), got him up and running on Twitch. Along with the help of several other Extra-Lifers we were able to help Maddox raise over $16k, a record for our hospital. On my game day I had a donation incentive to get an Extra Life tattoo. Mid January Maddox bravely lost his fight and I knew what I wanted my tattoo to be. Maddox is why I Extra Life now. His Twitch name was MadGhost0821. AshleyAwoww, a stream team member, was the one who drew this up and I just got it on Friday.

Hey everyone! I just released a new version that allows you to do a test donation alert so you can see how it will look / sound in your stream when you're setting things up. In the new ExtraLifeHelper.html file, change the new testDonationSeconds value to something other than zero. When the Helper loads up, it will show a test donation that many seconds later. Don't forget to set it back to zero when you're done testing. Latest version is v2.2. and can be downloaded here: https://github.com/breadweb/extralifehelper @MaelstromALPHA, this is something you and others requested.

Hey @thejennamonster! So sorry you have had some trouble! The website revamp DID move somethings around. You can edit the URL by logging in and going to "Your Page" > click the "Settings" tab just below your profile pic and thermometer > "customize" to adjust your URL. Let me know if this helps!

Last year I promised to get a tattoo if I reached my goal. So I did. My wife also decided she wanted the same thing (her 13th). And this year I decided to do the same thing if I meet my goal. "Missouri is #1 flyover state" - Jabroni Times

As part of our annual induction ceremony, Extra Life Baltimore Guild members and volunteers take the following pledge upon receiving their volunteer badge for the year: "Upon accepting this badge, I pledge to dedicate myself to supporting the mission of Extra Life. I promise to serve as a role model to the gaming community, and as a friend to my fellow Guild Members. I promise to conduct myself in a manner that honors the sick and injured children we help and the memory of those we couldn’t." Our Officers, in all their glory and sacrifice, take an additional oath before taking office: "As a steward of the Extra Life Baltimore Guild, I pledge to support my guild members to the best of my ability. I promise to conduct myself with professionalism and respect when I am representing the guild." I'm so moved by the dedication of our volunteer team, and I'm excited that we're able to continue to build new traditions as we grow each year. Thank you to everyone who took our Guild Pledge in the February Elections, Awards, and Induction Ceremony. We couldn't do this without you! If you would like to join the Extra Life Baltimore Guild, please complete our Guild Application.

Hey guys! I wanted to share an idea that one of my guild members did over the past weekend. She contacted one of those painting party places and was able to setup a party that benefited Extra Life! Those seem to be popular activities this year, so I suggest reaching out in your local area. She was able to raise a little bit and is planning on expanding it for next year! So if you aren't sure on how to push the fundraising bar up, think outside the box!!!

Hey everybody! To keep the number of posts down, let's use this thread for new and returning player introductions. Tell us a little about yourself, and how you came to get involved with ExtraLife. We'd love to know what you're playing, and if you're streaming feel free to link your stream and share any tips you have. If you're looking to get more involved with the Philadelphia Guild, keep your eye out for meeting date/time announcements.

Hey @TheLostSkeleton! Thanks for your question! Processing fees on the platform are based on the amount of the actual donation, though payment of those fees are always 100% optional on the part of the donor. Regardless of whether fee is paid or not, the receiving hospital will always see 100% of the intended donation.

I just wanted to pop in and thank you for this! I wanted to find a way to automate the process and this just works perfectly for me! I'm keeping this in my wheelhouse for the future (The donation "kids cheering" sound popped in when I was playing a horror game and I got confused for a moment *laugh*)

You are a saint, sir. All I really want every year are the text files so that I can change how they look to suit my design. So many of the other apps available force design/colour/font choices on me. Edit: I'm sorry but I'm not educated enough to run this application. I downloaded that Node program but it's just a command prompt? I don't understand anything I'm looking at in that zip package. Update: MajorLinux helped me, it turns out I had to use the command prompt in Windows to run this, Notepad to edit in my Extra Life participant ID. It works, thanks again! Update: I also figured out how to edit the file so it spits out team info instead of participant, which was my ultimate goal! Replace user ID with team ID, then edit a couple lines of code so it points to the teams directory instead of the participant directory.

Hey guys! We're just SIX weeks away from Game Day!!! Are you hyped cause we are!!! 25 hours of gaming and fundraising for Monroe Carell Jr. Children's Hospital it's as easy as that! What better way to spend your weekend! As we're getting everything planned for the event this year we wanted to keep you updated on some notable changes and things to keep in mind as we lead up to Game Day 2018. Nashville Extra Life Game Day 2018 November 3rd - November 4th 10 a.m. - 10 a.m. NTC's Tech Hill Commons 500 Interstate Blvd S, Nashville, TN 37210 One of the biggest changes is video gamers attending Game Day this year will only be open to gamers that are live streaming and actively fundraising during the day, as well as sponsors and major fundraising teams. This means video gaming will NOT be open to the public as it has been in the past. We will still have open tabletop gaming for anyone wanting to come and pick up a board game! In order to attend you must agree to live stream in some sort or fashion, and have already raised at least $10 on your Extra Life page. With that, if you're interested in attending please take a couple of minutes to fill out the streamer application: https://bit.ly/2xtFDTh So what all will be going on throughout the day? Video games of course!!! On top of individual games we'll be live streaming throughout the 25 hours, we'll have group games, and prizes for the most money raised throughout the day, the largest donor, stories from miracle families, lunch and dinner provided and much more!!! If you're unable to attend, or just want to support Extra Life Nashville, make sure you drop us a follow on Twitch and watch the stream throughout the day! twitch.tv/extralifenashville We'll have much more information as the date gets closer, if you have ANY questions about game day please feel free to email us at extralifenashville@gmail.com or join our discord channel! discord.gg/extralifenashville

It's the beginning of August and Tabletop Appreciation Weekend awaits us later this month. For the past few weeks, I wracked my brain to try and figure out a good way to kick off the lead up to the weekend we all come together as gamers over all things tabletop gaming related. Then I realized that I was being silly; I already had the perfect way to do that up my sleeve, and I had been working on it since last year with a small group of collaborators. That project is We Wanted Adventurers, a liveplay Dungeons & Dragons podcast. A liveplay podcast follows an unscripted recording of a traditional tabletop roleplaying game, with all of the goofs and drama that comes with the territory. The show follows a motley trio of unlikely heroes as they bumble into adventures both big and small across the fantastical continent of Nevarrone. I take on the role of the Dungeon Master, or DM, acting as the omniscient narrator of events and agent of fate over the fictional events within the game. Extra Life contributor Marcus Stewart takes on the role of Sean Valjean, a bard trying to rekindle his love of music. Kevin plays Arakiel, a barbarian wanderer born with a cursed fate. Finally, Alex appears as Pribi, a feared pirate captain who lost everything when his ship sank to the bottom of the sea. The adventure begins as a bard, a pirate, and a barbarian wander into the coastal city of Faragos.... It took a long time to put all the pieces together, but we can finally reveal the show to the world! The first two episodes are available now and new episodes will be released every week for the foreseeable future. You can download or listen to the podcast over on Soundcloud, our hosting site, and (soon) iTunes. You can follow the show on Twitter, too. Let us know what you think of the show! We know that some parts of it are a bit bumpy, but I hope it doesn't get in the way of your enjoyment as we all learn and grow together. Thank you for listening! With Tabletop Appreciation Weekend on August 25-26, you can also delve into the deep worlds of imagination and fun with your own friends and family. There's no better time to start a game of your own and forge some memories you'll never forget in the old-fashioned and time-tested form of pen and paper RPGs! New episodes of We Wanted Adventurers will be released every Wednesday Don't forget to sign up for Extra Life to help sick and injured kids in hospitals around the US and Canada by playing games! Hi/Hello, My name is Troy Starrett, and I recently moved to the PNW from sunny New Mexico, for better work opportunities. I first got involved with Extra Life through the Sarcastic Gamer community in 2010. This is my 9th year participating in the charity. I was previously raising money for the University of New Mexico Children's Hospital, because they were local, and they helped both of my daughters with medical emergencies shortly after they were born. I decided this year, since I was joining the Seattle Guild, that I should raise money for Seattle Children's Hospital (although it still feels a little bit weird). I sincerely look forward to working with all of you for this amazing cause. Cheers!

Any iRacers out there interesting in putting together and/or participating in an Extra Life series? Here's a quick sketch of my thoughts: Series of short races over 24 hrs on a mix of oval and road courses. Seek out race sponsors to supply a purse which is paid to winning drivers' chosen hospitals. Focus on base content (and some very widely used tracks) to lower barriers for entry I'd love to get a good group of Extra Lifers involved with this before I started reaching out to the iRacing community. The first order of business would be nailing down a date, series rules, and a broadcast partner. From there we can seek out drivers from the iRacing community and get them involved in Extra Life. If you're interested, reply here! Let's make this happen!

Hey everyone! As Siekobilly discovered, I updated the widget to work with OBS. TL;DR; You need a second monitor to use the Helper with OBS. It is incompatible with any plugin that exists for OBS including CLRBrowser. New download and instructions are posted at http://www.breadweb.net/files/extralife/ For those who want to know more about the technical details: The widget was made as a Flash application because it was originally designed for XSplit. Out of the box, XSplit lets you add Flash files to your presentation. Xsplit is an application that can load and run Flash files. The current best way to add web or Flash content to OBS is to use the CLRBrowser plugin. Unfortunately, this plugin uses a browser to render web and Flash content. When running in a browser, Flash files are subject to the Flash player's security restrictions around cross-domain data loading. The Flash application actually loads ExtraLife website pages and parses them to determine your individual donations as they come in. That way it knows when you have a new donation and it can total them up. This counts as loading data from another domain and is why it won't work when running in a browser. ExtraLife could fix this by adding a crossdomain.xml policy file to the root of their website. I've reached out to them and asked them to do this and also suggested they get to work on a formal API so myself and other people wouldn't have to resort to parsing HTML pages which is no fun. The ExtraLife team reached out to me because they were interested in the widget so hopefully we can work together to create a set of developer tools and a nice API in the future! I could write my own plugin for OBS which would render the Flash widget without using a browser, but that will take time. For now, I created an executable that loads the Flash file and displays it in a window. That way you can load the Flash widget into your presentation via a Window Source. The catch to this is that most of us play our games fullscreen. If the window is covered, it won't be captured correctly. The only way to get around this is by putting the window on a 2nd monitor. I'm personally using OBS tomorrow and that's how I'm getting the widget in my presentation. If you think I missed anything obvious that would not require a 2nd monitor, please let me know. Otherwise, I hope it works out for most everyone. Good luck with your fundraising!
