Extra life United 2014 Participant introductions- Sound off!

Recommended Posts

Hey everyone!

We're really excited about our inaugural Extra Life United event and can't wait to meet everyone and share this amazing event and the entire Children's Miracle Network Hospitals Momentum experience with you. We know some of you are probably wondering who the competition is and would love to get an idea of who you'll meet during the event.

We'll be sending out a schedule and a program with everyone listed, but we thought it would be great if you all introduced yourselves to each other and the community right here and now! This will help you get to know each other, and let the community know who to cheer for when the games begin!

So if you're one of our Extra Life United participants, take a moment to let everyone know your name, where you're from, how long you've been an Extra Lifer and the hospital you'll be playing for.

Feel free to play a few mind games and let your competition know what an incredible gamer you are and how no one stands a chance against your universally accepted awesomeness as well.

Hi I'm Jonathan "KingCowdorah" Cribb! I am from Salem, Virginia, and I am playing for Carilion Children's Hospitals in Southwest Virginia. I have been a proud participant of Extra Life for a couple of months. I managed to set up and run an Extra Life event at my school, Roanoke College's, campus. Our schools Anime Club, Harry Potter Club, Video Game Club, and Limited Edition (our schools Comic Book Club) came together and did the event each in our own way. If you want to talk to me or meet me feel free to send me a friend invite on Steam, PSN, Facebook, or Follow me on Twitter. Can't wait to meet all of yall at Momentum

Looking forward to seeing everyone!

Hi Everyone!

I'm Benjamin Trently, Extra Lifer from Baltimore, Maryland playing for Johns Hopkins Children's Center. This is only my second year doing Extra Life, but this past year I have gotten really involved, and honestly want to do something like this as a career (I know awesome right?!?!)

As far as this tournament goes, why can't we all just share the money :) Great idea right. We can all end up being friends and no one will get hurt when i destroy them in the competition. MWahahaha

Anyways, looking forward to meeting you all.

P.S. - Get ready to get rekt.

Hey!

I'm Reed Scarfino from Kansas City representing KU Medical Center.

I'm an e-sports lover, competitor, and partnered variety streamer (twitch.tv/scarfino) that plays titles across many different genres with a heavy focus on interactive conversation.

My stream is my getaway and gaming is my hobby.

I am known for my aggressive playstyle and have competed in the upper echelon of competitive play in Quake 3, the Call of Duty series, Jedi Knight II and Halo.

I look forward to meeting other extra-lifers from around the nation and having a good time competing for a good cause!

My twitter is @scarfino - See you next week!

Rick Spies from the Denver area checking in, will be playing for Children's Hospital Colorado. I'm a former EVE Online tournament competitor with several top 8 finishes and one first place finish under my belt, but for the last two years I've retired from tournament competition and instead have become a player commentator and flown to Iceland to cast the 11th and 12th EVE Online Alliance Tournaments.

We'll see if my EVE skills translate over to console gaming. I'm a die-hard PC gamer and really only play FIFA on my Playstation, so we'll see how it goes.

Hello everyone!

I am Lord Reverend Richard Moser, a noble Lord of Sealand, and priest of the Church of the Latter-Day Dude! I Extra Life for UPMC Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh, and so should you!

I am fiercely competitive in that I am always clawing for last place. My old handle was "mosersaurus", but sadly, a cataclysmic event happened and that went extinct, resulting in my turn towards Evil. I am now called "mosersauron", and I will destroy you all!

I kid. Best of luck to everybody! I look forward to meeting each of you, and participating in such an amazing experience. No matter who wins, the kids win.

Jonathan "DapperKnave" Griffith one of the few from Canada. Playing for Alberta Children's Hospital. This is my third year of extra-life fundraising. I'm proud to be a part of it. Last year, I got my first tattoo because of Extra Life. My friends look forward to the crazy stuff I do each year on my stream (this year I drank a bottle of Ranch soda and more).

I have zero gaming tournament experience. I expect to get by on my charm, good looks and wit. If that doesn't work, hopefully my pathetic whimpering will be enough to distract my opponents.

Looking forward to meeting you all.

Hey all! I'm Suzi "Auspex" Curran, and I'm so very excited to be heading away from this awful Boston weather and towards sunny, balmy Florida in a week!! :)

I'm primarily a PC gamer nowadays, and I play a lot of RPGs, strategy games, and indie stuff. I'm currently hooked on Fantasy Life for DS, and spent a good chunk of my EL stream playing Civ Beyond Earth.

When I'm not at my day job or running around collecting money for Boston Children's Hospital, I organize and staff geek conventions like the Boston Festival of Indie Games, Geek Central, and the various PAX-es. I also fundraise for that other gaming charity and, in the little free time I have left, design and illustrate indie games. Whew!

I also have some useful links to share!

Rather than face the challenge of adding everyone individually on Facebook, I made a group where we can plan things like running around the parks, food, etc: https://www.facebook.com/groups/ELUgamers/

Similarly, it looks like Tym Kaywork made a great twitter list, which will also make it easier for folks who won't be in Orlando next week to see all our tweets in one place! Check it out: https://twitter.com/vttym/lists/extra-life-united

See you all very soon! :D

Hey everyone - Tym "vttym" Kaywork here. Been an Extra Life fundraiser for a few years now, finally getting past the $10k lifetime donation mark this year. While I don't have the time I once had for games, I still consider myself a gamer, and enjoy finding time in the wee hours of the night to play.

I've written for a couple gaming websites, and have been gaming since I was 6, starting on the Atari 2600 and working up from there. I look forward to meeting everyone in Orlando, and hopefully don't get my butt kicked too bad on Divekick.. though having never played the game, I'm sure I will :)

Good luck to all, and let's have a kick-ass time!

Yo! I'm Greg Reynolds from Milwaukee. I'm a tech guy by day and a hype man by night. This is my second year raising money for Children's Hospital of Wisconsin and I'll playing my 24 hours this Saturday, so this is gonna be a fun week, I tell you what. (Check the link in my sig for more on that. Prizes. Surprises. Hype. We got it all.)

So let me just put this out here right now. I like y'all. You seem like nice people with good heads on your collective shoulders. I wish you all the best of luck, but see, look at the key word there: Wish. I wish for a lot of things. I wish for a peaceful world where we all live in unity. I wished my beloved Brewers would have taken the World Series this past fall. I wish I had a tasty Reuben sandwich right about now. But that's the thing. I don't deal in wishes. I deal in fact, and the fact is that I am not coming down there to wish upon a star that I'll be champ. I'm coming to take it from all y'all.

And I get it. I'm the underdog. I ain't no Captain Pringles, Aruminium, or Gassy Man. I don't get a bye in into the finals. Here's the thing though: I don't need it. I come from the Brew City and here's what we're known for: Beer, three socialist mayors, and copious levels of hype channeled directly from the tap out of my particular well. I'm coming down with one day's change of clothing, because I need the rest of my suitcase for all the HYPE I'm bringing down with me to Florida, and I SURE CAN'T FIT IT ALL IN MY CARRY-ON. I'M NOT TOTALLY SURE IT'S TSA APPROVED.

So yeah, best of luck y'all. You're gonna need it. ;)

EDIT: I'm great.

Greg Sewart here from Nova Scotia. I'll be playing for the IWK Children's Hospital. I don't think I've played any of the games in the tournament for more than a few minutes each, so I feel like my chances are pretty good! I'm old. I feel like we should add a Sega Genesis round!

You can catch me every week on the Player One Podcast, if you're into that sort of thing!

Good luck everyone! Can't wait to meet and mingle next week in the happiest place on earth!

Hello everyone! I'm Marcia "JaXboxChick" Morgan and I've been a part of Extra Life since forever. I was part of Sarcastic Gamer as one of the hosts of the SGPink podcast. I'm gaming for Wolfson Children's Hospital in Jacksonville, Florida and am absolutely looking forward to not only getting a much needed break from my kids, but getting to meet all of you and getting to experience the pinning ceremony and seeing on a grander scale what Children's Miracle Network is all about. Now that I've said the warm fuzzy nice things...

I don't mean to brag, but I am amazing at every single game that has ever been created. None of you will be able to defeat me at anything. I grew up in the time when games were born and will do anything to win that money for my local hospital. The only way you could hope to get a leg up in this competition is to buy me a lot of drinks the night before :)

Yo! I'm Megan and I'm a community/event organizer in the Midwest. I will be playing for the Lurie Children's Hospital in Chicago, which is better than all of your hospitals. Since I'm a PC master race gamer, I'm not really concerned about the tournaments all being on PS4 - what's so hard about 4 buttons and a d-pad? My APM is in the thousands. Have I ever played any of the 5 announced games? No. Is that an issue? Probably not.

See you next week!

Hey gang, Extra Lifer Scott "scottobear" von Berg from Annapolis, Maryland playing for Johns Hopkins Children's Center. This is my third year doing Extra Life, and I can honestly say it's been a pleasure meeting and gaming with all the wonderful folks involved.

I used to live in South Florida, and it's a true act of love on my part to wander off from the family for a few days back into the house of mouse. I can't wait to meet you all in person, and hopefully crush you under my heel in the spirit of friendly competition and charity.

See you in a week! You'll know me by my friendly face and gargantuan size.

Hi everyone!

I'm John Tabbernor from Winnipeg, Canada and I'll be playing for the Children's Hospital Foundation of Manitoba. This is the second year that my friends and I have taken part in Extra Life and I'm humbled to have the opportunity to participate in the first ever Extra Life United!

I've been gaming since the Commodore 64 was cool so what I might lack in 'mad skillz' I make up for in experience! I doubt I'll make it very far in the tournament but that leaves more time for hanging out, getting to know everyone in the community, and nursing our wounds with a few shared drinks.

If anyone's curious, you can check out the full archive of our

or check out the stuff I'm doing on Twitch.

It's hard to contain my excitement and I'm really looking forward to meeting everyone next week! If you want to get in touch, usually the best way is to find me on Twitter.

See you soon!
