New Yorkers.. passports?

Recommended Posts

I've seen a couple articles outlining that New York and a few other states (New Hamsphire, Louisiana and Minnesota) have ID that won't cut it for tightened airport security starting as early as 2016.. to fly domestically.

Could throw a wrinkle in some plans. Just wanted to let fellow New Yorkers know.

Wow, that's pretty crazy.  Gonna definitely have general nation repercussions for the whole states honoring other states IDs stuffs.

A wrinkle indeed.  ;0

I just hope it doesn't take effect until later 2016. I haven't looked into what it takes to get passport but I know it takes quite a long time.

Yeah, comfortably start to finish it's roughly a 2-3mo process.  4-6weeks I think if you super turbo rush charge that some some.  ;0 ;~)

Basically the government changed the requirements for IDs a few years ago to make them more secure and more difficult to fake. Some states chose not to go along with the new guidelines and the unfortunate result is resident of those states will end up needing a passport as their state IDs aren't considered secure documents.

Man, I didn't even hear about this until last week!!!! Illinois is also one of the non-compliant states.  However, according to several sources, this will not go into effect until 120 days AFTER January 1, 2016.  Hopefully that's the same with you guys! Regardless, I'm bringing my passport just in case!

Well I'm gonna get a passport regardless, just in case (and it's good to have one I guess).

GOOD NEWS EVERYBODY:

" The U.S. Department of Homeland Security on Friday afternoon announced that air travelers with driver's licenses or ID cards issued by states and territories that are not in compliance with Real ID Act standards can continue to use those cards until Jan. 22, 2018 "

Should be a non-issue. Safe travels everyone! :D

For the record if you live near a passport office (there's one in Denver that does this) you can get one essentially same day.  It just costs a few hundred dollars.  But for anyone drowning in money, it's an option.

Really? Well it's gonna cost me $165 to get it normally and that's with 4-6 weeks processing.
