Welcome! Introduce yourself!

Hey everyone! This'll be my first year participating in EL, and I'm super excited. I learned about this awesome event last year at anime convention Otakon in Baltimore, MD (of which is moving to Washington, DC in 2017) and I signed up. Game Day 2015 came around and I wanted to go head first into this, but I didn't have all that I needed to do it (I had a PS3, but no capture card). This year though I have a good capture card, and a PS3 and PS4 at my disposal! This should be fun.

Why do you Extra Life?

I Extra Life because I want to see kids that are sick in the hospital overcome their sickness, or at least give them hope that there are people out there that are encouraging them to keep strong and try to pull through. ...if that makes any sense.

How long have you been participating?

This'll be my first year, and likely not my last!

What Hospital do you play for and why?

I'm playing for the Boston Children's Hospital because I live in Boston at the moment, and I want to support my local community in any way I can.

Are you a member of one of our Guilds?

No, but if there are any Boston guilds looking for someone to join, sure.

What do you do when you aren't helping kids?

When not helping kids I'm still helping people. I work retail and I help people around my store all the time. It can be aggravating, but it's also rewarding when people come back again and again and they enjoy and respect the service I give them.

Anything else you'd like your fellow Extra Lifers to know about you!

I'm an avid (though not up with the current) anime fan. I used to be more active with it, but work and ...life... caught up with me. I attend 3-5 anime conventions a year too, so there's that. :) If anyone sees me around at Anime Boston this coming year (my local/home con) hit me up and we'll chat.

Howdy, all! My name's Mark and this is my first year ExtraLifing. I set a goal of $500 and it was met in 29 hours, so now I'm trying to figure out some stretch goals to encourage more donations.  I'm doing my marathon from 7p EST on Friday, November 4 through 8p on Saturday, November 5.  I'll be streaming at https://www.twitch.tv/madmup so stop by and help keep me awake!

Why do you Extra Life?

I don't have any kids of my own, but we've had a few friends who've needed the kind of help the Children's Miracle network provides. I wanted to support them in a way I knew I could.

How long have you been participating?

First time! If it goes well, I hope to keep it up.

What Hospital do you play for and why?

Riley Hospital for Children in Indianapolis, IN. It's the hospital that has helped our friends.

Are you a member of one of our Guilds?

Nope.

What do you do when you aren't helping kids?

I'm a computer tech for a school corporation and I love movies and videogames.

Anything else you'd like your fellow Extra Lifers to know about you!

I got nothin'.

Hello everyone! My name is Austin Bain, and I'm currently a Master's student in material science in Aalen, Germany (it's in the area of Stuttgart), however I'm originally from Indianapolis, Indiana.

  • I joined Extra Life for my twin sister (seen in the photo). When we were born she was diagnosed with Bronze Baby Disease and sent to Riley Children's Hospital. Everything ended up ok, and now she is working to become a child life specialist in order to give back to the community. So while that's her way of giving back, this is mine.
  • This is my first year participating!
  • I play for Riley Children's Hospital in Indianapolis, Indiana for my twin sister.
  • No guild yet!
  • I'm a student working towards a Master's degree in material science in Germany, with a Bachelor's in physics already completed. Other than that, I game a lot, and attempt to survive in a foreign country
  • The forum tag is my old Starcraft 2 tag from when I played competitively (was short-lived and I wasn't very good). Members of the tournament website I was a part of said that it sounded like Space Rhino, so that's where I got the name for my twitch stream from. For this November, I have Final Fantasy VII planned to stream, and it's also my first time streaming.

  • I'm really excited to try this out and hope to raise lots of money for my local hospital.  Ive been playing video games for about 30 years now and can't wait to give this a try.  Anything else you guys would like to know just ask :)

I'm a 10 year old gamer , youtuber and author of 2 minecraft books. One went to #1 on Amazon last year. I also am the only solo unsigned author in Barnes & Noble history to sell books and have my own unsigned author night for the company. I go by the gamer name of Golden Ninja 50. My channel is: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCXtPHN6YyM6JGFooRwRfB7Q  I have joined this website to raise money for kids that have cancer or other bad diseases. I just recently did a 12 hour live stream playing minecraft and had over 700 views. I decided I would do a 24 hr live stream but this time I would raise money to help kids and found your website. I currently have 1,100 subscribers and over 22,000 views on my youtube channel so I think I can raise a few bucks to help some kids. I will schedule the 24 hr event soon and hope all my fans, friends, customers and family can donate for my cause.

Welcome aboard, young ninja! It looks like you're supporting a hospital in Central PA, so if you haven't already, you might want to try and connect with the Hershey Guild - I'm sure they'd be thrilled to hear from you! Right @TheTolsonator? Here's the link to their landing page: http://community.extra-life.org/hershey

Welcome and thank you for taking the steps to start helping sick and injured children through your gaming and live streaming! It's great to have you here! I must say, it's VERY impressive to have two books published, let alone by the age of 10!!!

As @K8Morosky mentioned, we'd love to have you join us at our monthly meetings (kicking off soon) to hang out, bounce ideas off each other, etc. Keep an eye out on the forums here for more info. We're going to be moving our dates to Monday nights for the time being, so we hope you can make it! Feel free to reach out to me here and I'll do my best to get back to you asap ^_^

Thanks for having me.

Why do you Extra Life?

I had heart surgery as a kid so I empathize with the kids and families who are helped by CMNH, and I'm a video game nerd so when I saw I could use the hobby as a way to help I was on board.

How long have you been participating?

This is my second year participating in Extra Life

What Hospital do you play for and why?

I play for Children's Specialized Hospital as it is right here in the great state of New Jersey

Are you a member of one of our Guilds?

Not yet

What do you do when you aren't helping kids?

I enjoy going to poetry open mics, hiking, and jogging, as well as video and tabletop games.

Anything else you'd like your fellow Extra Lifers to know about you!
Just how glad I am to find such a cool cause and community. I stream as ChumBucketLQB, and play as ChumBucket or ChumBucketLQB, feel free to say hi if you see me.

Connor

Hello everybody! I'm new here and just joined today! I play for Mercy Hospital in St. Louis because I want to use my gaming as a way to help others. I'm still trying to figure everything out and I'm looking for a guild to join! Any recommendations? When I'm not helping I'm usually writing (or trying to lol) my book and look up new recipes to try! I'm an outgoing person and I would love to get started, but I don't know what I should do to get started. Ideally I would like to join a guild and go to a few activities until I get a feel for it and eventually get my friends involved.  Nice to meet you all and I hope you are all reaching your goals! Cheers!!!!!

Welcome! Are you in the St. Louis area? If so you might want to chat with @Super Hobbit. I know he is listed as the guild leader and is an all around great Extra Life resource.

Don't hesitate to ask any questions either! You'll find more than one of us available to help.

Greetings and Salutations! This will be my second year with Extra Life, organizer for the Extra Life Roanoke team (not yet a Guild, but you gotta start somewhere!) and supporting Carilion Children's Hospital/Children's Miracle Network Southwest Virginia. I stream quite a bit of Minecraft under the tag nirvana2165 and for fun, run a small group of Minecraft and Minetest servers.

I've been working in healthcare for over 30 years and Extra Life is one way for me to give back, especially for the children! When not gaming, I'm an analyst/programmer. I'll have to be out of commission for awhile due to heart surgery, but hope to get back in again later in the spring.  Bye for now!

This thread being more active lately made me realize that I hadn't posted!  I guess it's about time, considering I've been here a while...

I'm Elly, I'm Canadian, and 2017 marks my sixth year of Extra Life.  I originally learned about it on a knitting forum (really) and thought "hey, that's something good I can do for my community", and couldn't think of a reason NOT to....so here I am!  I play for the Stollery Children's Hospital in Edmonton, Alberta.  The Stollery serves not only Edmonton kids, but kids from across the province and across the country, with specialized services like a dedicated pediatric ER, a cardiac ICU, and a chronic pain management clinic.  I don't have experience with them personally, as I moved to Edmonton as an adult and have no kids of my own, but I am and aunt and a godmother and I am glad to be able to support the Stollery in this way.

Other stuff I like to do...I knit, I'm a classically-trained flautist, and I enjoy media of all sorts (games, movies, music, comics, visual arts).  You can find me on Xbox Live as TheLostSkeleton playing multiplayer games like Destiny, Borderlands 2, Halo, and Mass Effect 3 - Andromeda's almost here, woot! - but if you want do that, just message me first saying you're from the EL forums as I don't accept party/game invites from Gamertags I don't recognize.

Welcome Elly!

Classically trained flautist? I see a donation goal in your future for some video game inspired flute tunes ;).

I have figured out how to play the Dragon Age: Inquisition theme, and now I'm surfing Amazon for sheet music. :D

This looks like a good place to say hello, so here we go. I'm Kevin, FlyingTurtle45 on Twitch. My first year Extra Lifing was 2016, and I'm excited to be back for year 2.

  • Why do you Extra Life?

I got involved last year on the spur of the moment--I saw an ad on Twitch about it, and decided to see what the deal was. I work with charities as part of my job, and I already give blood regularly, so Extra Life combines nicely with stuff I already do. Also, I had considered doing charity streaming, and I liked that EL had an infrastructure set up--I don't have to touch any money, and I think that helps viewers feel comfortable giving.

  • How long have you been participating?

2017 will be my second year. I did the national day in 2016, and the day went pretty well, despite having missed my fundraising goal. I'm hoping to get ideas from the forums to improve my fundraising game so that I hit my target this year.

  • What Hospital do you play for and why?

University of Kansas Medical Center--it's local, so it makes sense.

  • Are you a member of one of our Guilds?

Not at the moment.

  • What do you do when you aren't helping kids?

I work a lot, and I'm usually playing games or doing a puzzle or reading or somesuch. Sometimes I have to take out the trash.

I think that'll do for now. If you bump into me out there, certainly feel free to say hello.

Welcome, @FlyingTurtle45, great to meet you!  If you haven't already, it sounds like you might want to get in touch with the Kansas City Guild, even if it's just to see who else is in your area. Plus, guilds are always looking for new faces. Here's their landing page: http://community.extra-life.org/kansascity

Hi guys!

  • Why do you Extra Life?  A friend of mine lost his child to cancer at the age of 4. It hit me pretty hard to see him lose his son.
  • How long have you been participating?  I have been involved with Extra Life since 2012. As of fall 2016, I am the Vice President here in Cincinnati.
  • What Hospital do you play for and why?  Cincinnati Children's Hospital Medical Center. The gave my friend an extra 2 years with his son. Even though he lost the battle, he had a much higher chance thanks to their support and help. Anything I can do to add to that gives me fuzzy feelings.
  • Are you a member of one of our Guilds? I am the current Vice President of the Cincinnati Guild.
  • What do you do when you aren't helping kids? Playing more video games, traveling, finishing school, or spending time with my family.
  • Anything else you'd like your fellow Extra Lifers to know? I'm proud of each and every one of our members, near and far, high donations or only a dollar. Every little bit helps us change the lives of children in need. Keep up the great work!

Hello, I recently joined up to participate this year. In the past I've donated to others, but for 2017 I want to raise money for a local hospital. I even got a local game store to agree to host a 24 hour marathon at the store. I'm really excited!
