I Extra Life for the kids, and to show the community I care.

I only recently started Extra Life, but I love doing this.

I play for Children's Hospital of San Antonio, because they're a local hospital and I want to help children in my state of Texas.

I am not a member of a Guild.

When I'm not helping kids, I'm in school, working, or gaming with friends.

Hi Everyone! My Name is Scott, but most people know me by my PSN/Twitch handle: Lenard18. I am from Macomb, MI which is a suburb of Detroit.

  • I started participating in Extra Life after I watched theChive's 24-hour stream. I was a big fan of the ideas and goals behind this event and all of the awesome things it accomplishes.
  • This will be my first year participating as a streamer/fundraiser. I only recently got involved with streaming earlier this year, around the time of 8-Bit Salute. I am currently working hard on recruiting others to join
  • I'm playing for the Beaumont Children's Hospitals of Michigan because not only for the fact that they are local to me but because of the great stuff they do for kids in my area.
  • When I am not playing for Extra Life I am involved with raising money for Operation Supply Drop and Chive Charities
  • I am an admin for the Chive Gaming Chapter

If anyone would like to know more you can always reach out. I get bored at work a lot and usually can answer relatively quickly.

Good Morning people of Extra-Life!

My name is Richard, though I go by Rj due to childhood nickname. All of my gaming handles are LordLaLaLa (Except XBox because I haven't owned one in years) I'm originally from Alaska, but in Arizon due to college.

I started doing Extra-Life 3 years ago, but I've wanted to do it for many years before that but high school sports always got in the way, I do Extra-Life because I have always worked/wanted to work with children, and right now raising money for hospitals is good enough right now.

I play for the children's hospital of Providence in Anchorage, AK. I play because I've known many people that have gone to Providence, and it supports my home state. I'm not in any guilds because I missed the meeting down in Phoenix and I'm not in Alaska to go to the meeting there,

When not doing Extra-Life, I'm trying to get other people interested in it, spreading the word and hyping it up. Other than that, I'm doing college work and sleeping.

I play pretty much anything if I have it, so if anyone is interesting in playing anything, I'm always down to game if I'm free, which may be rare this semester.

How is it going everyone!

  • Why do you Extra Life? Because of my daughter who was born with a rare brain tumor. She's my hero.
  • How long have you been participating? This will be my 3rd year participating in Extra Life and the 2nd year that Lauren will be joining me.
  • What Hospital do you play for and why? Originally we played for Duke Children's Hospital. We moved to Florida in the last year and Lauren asked if we could support Sacred Heart in Pensecola since that's where she's currently receiving most of her care. We still go to Duke once a year for scans.
  • Are you a member of one of our Guilds? There is no guild in my area currently, but I am still a member of Extra Life Raleigh-Durham.
  • What do you do when you aren't helping kids? I sit at our local coffee shop and give the staff a hard time. I'm also a musician and sound engineer.
  • Anything else you'd like your fellow Extra Lifers to know about you! Besides Lauren being awesome and doing well? Let's see, we have gotten the platinum together on two Lego games and are now working on Lego Jurassic World and Lego Hobbit. She's also a fan of Minecraft on the XB1 and other games.

Hi!

This will be my 3rd year doing Extra Life. I'm from the Minneapolis area and I co-created the website MegaDads.org which is a site for old fart gamers like myself.

I play for Gillette Children's Specialty Healthcare in St.Paul, MN.

I'm participating in Extra Life to help out the kids and to help me get over my fear of livestreaming more often.

This is my first Extra Life event.

I'm playing for the Monroe Carell Jr. Children's Hospital at Vanderbilt.

I'm not a member of any guilds.

I work too many long hours at my current job to have much of a social life.

I'm just a regular old dude, lol.

My first Extra Life event was in 2013, a month after my son Dominic was diagnosed with leukemia at 11 months old.

I live in Medicine Hat, Alberta (Canada), three hours east of the Alberta Children's Hospital in Calgary which is the nearest one to us and where Dom spent most of the past two years. They did everything they could for him and he rewarded all of us with an infectious positivity that inspires.

I remain part of the Calgary guild, though I don't go there much now. Dominic died Sept. 3, 2015, two days after being at Disney World as part of his wish trip.

With support from my community we have created #dominicstrong - which continues to evolve and at the time of writing this message has generated more than US$25,000 for the Alberta Children's this year.

My son only got to inspire people for two years. I honour him by helping that inspiration grow.

Greetings everyone!

  • I'm in extra life because of my daughter.  She was born premature, and I spent nights in the NICU with her, half asleep in a rocking chair next to her, and eventually, holding her through the night (I was balancing full time employment, full time college, and full time husband).  Although the hospital was not a part of CMN, I knew then I would find a way to pay forward the unremembered donor that gifted a simple rocking chair - that meant so much to me at the time.  Fast-forward 18 years, and here I am.
  • This is my first year raising funds for Extra Life - I was introduced to the group last year by a fellow guildmate, when I helped him stay awake the final 5 hours of the marathon.  Now, I'm a little older, have a little more free time, and aren't on the road 50 weeks a year anymore; the perfect way to help others the way someone helped me dropped right into my lap.
  • I play for Children's Hospital of New Orleans.  Born a Buckeye, I moved to the Gulf Coast post Katrina after falling in love with the area.  New Orleans is a city unlike any other in the US (and not at all like its reputation), and Children's combines outstanding medical research with compassionate outreach to all the children of the city, rich and poor alike. The doctors and nurses there stood their ground in the face of the worst nature could throw at them, finally arranging the evacuation of the hospital 3 days after the storm without government assistance - all without losing a single patient.  Their dedication is why I support them.
  • Sadly, I live in the Great Guild Desert.
  • When I'm not helping the kids of CHNOLA, I'm either helping my own get through college by working as a contractor for the Coast Guard, working with my wife in our landscaping battle, or yapping at my fellow streamers!
  • I'm an old-school gamer, my first console was a Magnavox Odyssey (1st generation!), but am primarily a PC gamer these days.  Want to know more about me? Visit me when I'm streaming and ask!

  • Why do you Extra Life? I do it for the kids and for the families. I like knowing that what I do is truly helping the hospital close to me.
  • How long have you been participating? This is my 3rd year.
  • What Hospital do you play for and why? St. Louis Children's Hospital. I selected this hospital because my mom actually visited them when she was a child.
  • Are you a member of one of our Guilds? The Extra Life St. Louis Guild. :)
  • What do you do when you aren't helping kids? Still playing video games, volunteering for the guild, telling all of my friends about Extra Life until they join, attending local nerdy events, and on the rare occasion cosplaying.

Hey all, brand new to all of this (Including the streaming stuff itself) but couldn't think of a better way to give back!

  • Why do you Extra Life? I've seen other streamers doing marathons for charity and wanted to get involved myself, plus who doesn't want that awesome exclusive swag you can earn ;)
  • How long have you been participating? Just signed up today, planning my first marathon for the next couple of weeks sometime
  • What Hospital do you play for and why? SickKids here in Toronto, don't have any personal ties to it but being closest to me in proximity I constantly hear of the amazing work they do down there and I wanted to help somewhere local.
  • Are you a member of one of our Guilds? I have no idea what that is so I'm going to say no for now, hopefully someone can take me under their wing and help show me the ropes.
  • What do you do when you aren't helping kids? Sadly I work a LOT of hours in a week and what little time I'm not I'm typically gaming/streaming so I figured it would be the best way for me to help for now :D
  • Anything else you'd like your fellow Extra Lifers to know about you! Just a nice, easy going, laid back kinda guy, here to help any way I can.

Thanks to everyone who helps to organize this massive charitable machine and keep it moving, doing some great work out here!

Hi Christian,
Don't worry too much about streaming. The majority of Extra Lifers don't stream (in fact only a tiny percentage do any kind of streaming). You don't have to stream to make a big impact on your community. Just get out and share what you're doing with friends and family and ask them to support you. That's what it's all about!

  • Why do you Extra Life?
    • As an uncle, friend, and neighbor, I Extra Life to make sure no parent in LA every has to worry about getting the care their child needs.
  • How long have you been participating?
    • 3 Years
  • What Hospital do you play for and why?
    • Children's Hospital LA. It's my local CMN hospital, they've treated many people I know and love (including myself), and I want to make sure that when I do have kids that the best care possible is available to them.
  • Are you a member of one of our Guilds?
    • Yes! I joined the Los Angeles Guild just over a year ago. I've participated in the 2014 LA Guild 24-marathon stream and recruited Extra Lifers at E3, IndieCade, Strategicon Gateway, and other events.
  • What do you do when you aren't helping kids?
    • During the day I'm responsible for technical logistics for the world's largest conference on technology & persons with disabilities (also known as assistive technology). The remainder of my time I'm with my girlfriend enjoying the LA Kings and Dodgers, playing video games, playing chef, and (rarely these days) brewing some beer.

  • Why do you Extra Life?
    • I've recently become a father.  I initially joined because it was a great cause and a good excuse to game for 24 hours.  Most recently, I created Team Savannah when I found out my friend's daughter Savannah had relapsed with neuroblastoma and was fighting for her life at Children's Hospital Colorado.  She was very excited about Extra Life once I told her about it, and blown away that we were raising money in her name with members all across the country and donors from around the world.  Tragically, Savannah passed away at home with her parents this last weekend.  She was 7.
  • How long have you been participating?
    • This will be my third marathon.
  • What hospital do you play for and why?
    • Children's Colorado, not only because that's where Savannah fought her battles, but because it's the hospital my kids would attend if they ever needed such care.
  • Are you a member of one of our Guilds?
    • Yes, Denver.
  • What do you do when you aren't helping kids?
    • I work for a company that does marketing for mortgage companies, helping match them with borrowers who are looking to refinance or purchase homes.  I've got over 10 years experience in social media marketing, and while our marketing is based on an internet campaign it's a bit different, and a totally different industry than anything I've done before.  Outside of the office, I'm a soccer fanatic, D&D GM, player of MTG, and avid PC gamer who recently picked up a Playstation 4 and has been hooked on that.

  • Why do you Extra Life?
    • I Extra life because I love to help others that need it. Bad things happen to good people, they deserve support. Even if it's only one child, I hope to make them smile and have a fighting chance. I know that sounds really cheesy but I've lost friends and family members (including my father when I was a child), I don't want others to have to go through that kind of pain.
  • How long have you been participating?
    • I haven't been participating all that long, but I do plan on continuing my participation.
  • What Hospital do you play for and why?
    • I play for Levine's children's hospital. I stated why I play above, but why I play for this specific hospital is because I know people that have been there. There are so many great people there that are simply looking to get better.
  • Are you a member of one of our Guilds?
    • No, I do have a team though (Gamer's Heart)
  • What do you do when you aren't helping kids?
    • School work mostly....
  • Anything else you'd like your fellow Extra Lifers to know about you!
    • Hmmmmm... I like tacos.... and.... ummmmmmmm...... yeeeeaaaahhhhh

  • Why do you Extra Life?
    • I hate the stereotype of gamers contributing violence into today's society and video games being blamed for influencing individuals to violently harm others. I also love that this fundraiser is something that 100% for the kids, rather than being divided up and split. Donors know where their money goes and it stays in the community. I don't have kids but I know plenty of friends and family members that have spent countless hours in children's hospitals.
  • How long have you been participating?
    • This is my fourth year.
  • What Hospital do you play for and why?
    • The James and Connie Maynard Children's Hospital at Vidant in Greenville, NC. There are only 3 children's hospitals in North Carolina, and the one in my city serves all of Eastern NC (pretty much anything east of I-95).
  • Are you a member of one of our Guilds?
    • Nope
  • What do you do when you aren't helping kids?
    • I still play and stream video games almost daily, I like to read books (mostly young adult, sci-fi/dystopian and zombie stories), I watch too much TV, I work a full time job as an assistant box office manager at a university, and I love on my furbabies at home!

I also loved reading everyone else's stories. I love the Extra Life community and the people involved. This is something that has been near and dear to my heart for many years, and I'm completely passionate about it. Thanks for sharing, y'all!

  • Why do you Extra Life?
    • My strongest memories of playing video games when I was younger are from times when I was sick.  It always took my mind off the bad stuff.  I'm disabled, I love helping wherever I can, but I'm not going to be running any marathons.  This is my marathon.
  • How long have you been participating?
    • This is my first year participating.  I found out last year a day or two after the big event.  I'm all in this time!
  • What Hospital do you play for and why?
    • I am playing for Boston Children's Hospital.  My stepson is also disabled (with the same rare genetic disorder I have - weird coincidence!), and the closest specialist for our condition is at Boston Children's Hospital.  The daughter of a friend from church gets care from there as well for issues related to a brain tumor.
  • Are you a member of one of our Guilds?
    • Not presently, but I think I probably should be.
  • What do you do when you aren't helping kids?
    • I'm a student of Creative Writing.  So, mostly, I write.  I want to eventually work in game writing for child-and-family-friendly games ... meaning games that parents can share and enjoy with their kids, not just grit their teeth and tolerate.  You don't have to talk down to kids for them to enjoy a good story.  Kids have pretty sophisticated understandings of fiction and humor if you give them the chance.  I'm also very active in my church.
  • Anything else you'd like your fellow Extra Lifers to know about you!
    • I'm a stepdad.  I take this really seriously.  This kid deserves everything I can give him.  If I can help other people's kids too, I'm for it.

  • Why do you Extra Life?  I was invited at PAX two years ago, and this year decided to take the plunge into helping out.  My son was in the NICU shortly after birth due to some blood sugar imbalances and we stayed in the hospital for a few days longer than anyone intended.  At that point the last thing we wanted to worry about were the funds necessary to pay for all of it.  I am grateful to work for an employer that provides insurance that took care of most of the bills, but I know not everyone is as fortunate.
  • How long have you been participating?  This will be my first year participating in the 24 hours stream, I'm excited to have my brother-in-law with me and my family's support in this!
  • What Hospital do you play for and why?  I intend to stream for the local Cook Hospital in Dallas, simply because that's the closest one to us.
  • Are you a member of one of our Guilds?  Yes, the Dallas Guild.
  • What do you do when you aren't helping kids?  I work in IT, I have my beautiful wife and two boys who are quite a handful.  I enjoy playing Destiny in the evenings and organizing events and get-togethers for friends.  I am a photographer on the side and my formal schooling is in Mathematics.
  • Anything else you'd like your fellow Extra Lifers to know about you!  I appreciate any feedback or help to do a better job!

Hi Everyone! New here, I wanna make new friends and join an awesome community with a good cause.

  • Why do you Extra Life?
    • I love gaming and people. The common thing I find between meeting people and playing video games is that we dive into a whole new world with a wide story that both a person and a game can tell us. To play video games with people is like exploring a world together as a unity, and its good to explore new things with someone. I "extra-life" to meet people, to play games and to listen/experience to stories. When I visited Toronto's FanExpo this summer, they invited me to join their campaign, and the first thing that popped in my head was: "heck yeah, I'm in"
  • How long have you been participating?
    • I'm noob at this. This will be my first time with a team "Saturday Morning Gaming" crew. I'm happy to have my friends and family support me in this.
  • What Hospital do you play for and why?
    • SickKids Hospital~! I used to live beside a SickKids Hospital building and I sometimes bump into some of the employees there at the Local Tim Hortons.
  • Are you a member of one of our Guilds?
    • noooope. but I sure do hope that I can be in one. Anyone got some good suggestions on which guild i should join?
  • What do you do when you aren't helping kids?
    • Video Editor by Day, Twitch Streamer by Night. I do occasionally do photography as a hobby. But when it comes down to it, I sure do like chopping up recorded videos of my friends and I playing wicked games together and posting them on YouTube for sentimental reasons.
  • Anything else you'd like your fellow Extra Lifers to know about you!
    • I LIKE TURTLES.

Hey all! my name is Brandon Whittington, but you can call my Orcryst.

I joined Extralife because its an amazing cause, and as a father of two i feel like i should do my part, i know if my kids ever needed to go to a childrens hospital i'd want them to be looked after :)
I've been participating in Extra Life since the tail-end of 2014's extralife day

I support CHEO (Children's Hospital of Eastern Ontario) and am technically a member of the ottawa extralife guild, though i don't have the means to participate with them currently...

when im not streaming or helping the kids, im looking after my own 2 children, Robbie is 3, and Lexy is 1 :)

As for my stream, I usually stream a variety of games, lately i've been streaming a lot of classic RPG full playthroughs such as Disgaea, Chrono Trigger, Secret of Mana, and Valkyria Chronicles! (for extra life, i streamed all 4 original .hack// games!) you can see my stream most weekday mornings at 8AM EST at twitch.tv/orcryst01 :)
