Where do you Hold Your Meetings?

Recommended Posts

Hey all,

If you don't know, I am the president of the Albany Guild.

Anyway, it seems that I have run into a bit of an issue as to where to hold guild meetings. I am so used to holding formal meetings, but I know guild meetings should be a little more informal.

I ask this, because this months meeting (the third) was supposed to be at one venue, but we never heard back, and well... I still want to hold the meeting, but do know what kind of places we should be looking to. I know we need someplace that can hold at least 15 people or more. The two local game stores (ones in albany) are a bit small to hold that number of people, and the owner of one isn't to keen with me. (I frequent a rival game store that is over 30 miles away from albany. Then again I live 30 miles away from Albany)

So some suggestions would be grand! I am not asking for Specific places to Albany, just curious where other guilds hold their meetings, so I can get things better arranged for future meetings.

Oh, and because I know someone is going to ask. I am going to try holding the April meeting through Google Hangouts on Air. That way, we can record the meeting, share it on youtube and those that aren't there can still watch and catch up on what they missed, if they so choose.

Thank you all for the help.

Cheers,

I'm not in guild management for my guild but ours are held at our hospital. They have a wing of the hospital full of classrooms that we can use. It might be worth checking with your CMN contact at the hospital to see if they have space there.

We, in Jacksonville, have had our kickoff meeting and second meeting at our local Microsoft store. This month, I've scheduled a meeting room at one of our local libraries because the feedback that we've been receiving is that most people seem to want more of a formal setup, as to avert from distraction.

Hello, up here in Boston we get hosted by one of our Microsoft store reps to use the Technology Center Conference rooms.

The use of the rooms are free if you have sponsorship from a store marketing rep.

We also hold them at our Hospital once a year as part of a Hospital tour.

In Hershey we're lucky enough to have access to our Children's Hospital, in one of the classrooms/conference rooms. Check with your contact at the hospital and see if they can work something out for you there ;)

We use the community room at our local grocery store. It's a community hub with lots of space, and free to rent out.

Check your local library, too.

We've held our first three meetings in three different game stores. We're also affiliated with a college club, so if we need to meet on campus, we can, but parking is $5 so it's a last resort.

A couple of our stores have beef, but neither has beef with us.

The OC Guild has been rotating meeting locations for quite a while now and it seems to be working well.  The main reasons for rotating our meeting locations are 1) our members are spread out geographically and mixing up the venue allows meetings to be closer to home for everyone at some point in the rotation, and 2) we are scouting for a new venue to host our Game Day 24 hr marathon.  This process has had a few unintended benefits as well; we've met a lot of new people and businesses that are interested in supporting the Extra Life Cause, and I feel it is helping keep Guild Members interested in attending monthly meetings.  Even I get excited when we are meeting at a venue I've never been to before.  Off the top of my head here are several of the places we have held meetings at over the past year:

Esports Arena  https://www.esportsarena.com/
