The Evil Within was Resident Evil mastermind Shinji Mikami's return to Resident Evil 4-style survival horror. Although it had its problems, the game was a solid entry in the horror genre and performed well enough to warrant follow-up. Tonight, Bethesda premiered the reveal trailer for The Evil Within 2 and the scares appear as horrific and mind-bending as ever.
The trailer takes the viewer through a living nightmare experienced by the protagonist from the first game, Sebastian Castellanos. The game takes place three years after the events at the Beacon Mental Hospital but life hasn't improved for the tortured detective since then. Driving Sebastian back into the demented world is the news that his late daughter Lily might be alive, spurring him on a terrifying journey to find her.
Stunning psychological horror visuals were littered throughout the trailer, giving gamers a glimpse into the world they will have to combat to help the protagonist. The Evil Within 2 will utilize survival horror mechanics that allow the player to decide how they will progress. The press release for the game also implies unreliable characters that " may lead – or mislead – you on your path to redemption."
Taking advantage of fortunate timing, the game's release date is Friday, Oct. 13, 2017.
