NVIDIA has released a new mod for Fallout 4 called Vault 1080. The mod alters the pre-existing lighting systems of the base game with vastly improved volumetric lighting and shadows that NVIDIA describes as being "more velvety than ever." Vault 1080 achieves this visual bump by providing greater ambient oclusion control than found in unmodded Fallout 4. The mod also introduces godrays from sunlight, weapon debris, and new textures with updated meshes.
To show off the graphical overhaul, NVIDIA put together a new section of the game world with its own questline. Players will be able to travel to a seemingly abandoned church in the middle of an ominous swamp. Fog and darkness reign supreme in the heart of the marshland, serving to both show off the lighting and set the tone for the story. The residents of the titular vault have formed a cult-like society that embrace the disease and darkness of their living situation. However, the foundation of their philosophy might be more fiction than fact. It's up to the player to dig into the vault's secrets.
NVIDIA promises that "it’s a Fallout vault like you’ve never seen before."
The mod can supposedly be downloaded for PC from Bethesda.net beginning today, though the page currently appears to be unavailable or removed from Bethesda's site for the time being.
