The popular MOBA title League of Legends is temporarily allowing players to officially challenge each other in 1v1 or 2v2 match-ups.
Showdown allows players to test their skills one-on-one or two-on-two on the Howling Abyss map, which was originally added for the ARAM (All Random All Mid), the previous game mode added to the world's most played game.
In Showdown, players compete to either get the first kill on an opposing player; the first to last hit one hundred minion creeps; or the first to destroy the opponent's tower. This new game type will only be available for a limited time from December 19 through January 2.
This mode could be seen as a spiritual successor to the Magma Chamber 1v1/2v2 map which was demonstrated at the All-Stars Showdown in Shanghai earlier this year. The map was never released and was shelved following the event.
Additionally, during this holiday season League of Legends is introducing a slew of content to entertain players including ward skins, new summoner icons, and even poro papercraft.
