Get out your battle rifles and yell at whoever grabbed the rocket launcher, today marks the tenth anniversary of the Halo title that asked everyone to believe one last time. 343 Industries, the heir to Halo's legacy after Bungie split from Microsoft to make Destiny, have put together a bunch of things to celebrate the occasion.
Last Thursday, Halo 3 came to the Xbox One's backwards compatible library along with Halo CE: Anniversary, Halo 3: ODST, and Halo 4. People who want to get their 360-era Halo on can slide in their old discs or buy the digital version via Live. 343 has made sure that all of the map DLC for Halo 3 have been made available for free - and you will need those map downloads for Halo 3 multiplayer.
In a post commemorating the tenth anniversary, 343 hinted that more content could be on the way for Halo 3 saying, "In honor of Halo 3's 10th birthday we've been working closely with [the back-compat team] on some additional awesome things for Halo 3. We can't spill the beans just yet, but stay tuned for more info soon."
343 has also been working with its Halo 5 community to put together something special for the occasion. For months, the company's "Sierra Team" put together a playlist with the help of community map makers to recreate some of the most iconic Halo 3 maps in Halo 5. The playlist will tweak the gameplay to have a more Halo 3 feel with disabled abilities, a bigger motion tracker, and slightly different physics.
This tweaked Halo 3 Classic Throwback playlist will be available for a few weeks in Halo 5. If enough people play it, 343 says they'll consider letting it stick around or possibly even updating it.
