  7. Though it was rumored that Google was in talks to purchase the video streaming service, it appears that Amazon swooped in and bought Twitch for a cool $970 million. Twitch CEO Emmett Shear offered the following statement to the community about the acquisition: Every day, we strive to live up to the standard set by you, the community. We want to create the very best place to share your gaming and life online, and that mission continues to guide us. Together with you, we've found new ways of connecting developers and publishers with their fans. We've created a whole new kind of career that lets people make a living sharing their love of games. We've brought billions of hours of entertainment, laughter, joy and the occasional ragequit. I think we can all call that a pretty good start. Today, I'm pleased to announce we've been acquired by Amazon. We chose Amazon because they believe in our community, they share our values and long-term vision, and they want to help us get there faster. We're keeping most everything the same: our office, our employees, our brand, and most importantly our independence. But with Amazon's support we'll have the resources to bring you an even better Twitch. I personally want to thank you, each and every member of the Twitch community, for what you've created. Thank you for putting your faith in us. Thank you for sticking with us through growing pains and stumbles. Thank you for bringing your very best to us and sharing it with the world. Thank you, from a group of gamers who never dreamed they'd get to help shape the face of the industry that we love so much. It's dangerous to go alone. On behalf of myself and everyone else at Twitch, thank you for coming with us. As with most surprising turn of events, it remains to be seen if this acquisition will be a net positive, negative, or neutral for the people who use Twitch professionally and recreationally. The above statement sees to indicate that any changes will be for the better with increased financial backing and the retention of all Twitch jobs. Here is hoping you Extra Life streamers out there have an even easier and successful time with the service this year!
  8. During the month of May, Extra Life’s current top fundraiser, Aureylian, worked with Twitch to set up the event Mining for Charity. Four teams totaling forty-eight Twitch broadcasters competed in ten different Mineplex minigames. Each team represented a different charity organization: AbleGamers, Child’s Play, Extra Life, and Stand for the Silent. The team that racked up the most points over the course of the month of Mineplex games won a $5,000 prize for their charity. Unfortunately, Extra Life came in third place, but even third place received a pretty nice chunk of change courtesy of some Twitch auctions. I had the opportunity to ask Aureylian some questions regarding Mining for Charity and her own involvement in Extra Life. --- How did you first get involved in Extra Life? I was invited to go along to the Celebration last year in Orlando along with some other gamers and Twitch employees to learn more about Extra Life. After meeting all of the kids, and being a gamer and mom myself, it seems like I was meant to be there. I have become so passionate about Extra Life, because it literally hits every major aspect of my life. What is your goal for this year and what are you going to try differently to achieve it (besides Minecraft charity tournaments)? My goal for this year is $25k. I've done a few shorter livestreams already this year and am planning at least two more (including the National Game Day). I've started integrating incentives in my game play (like renaming missions in Minecraft to donators of certain levels) and stopping livestreams to sing karaoke when someone donates $25. It's a continued effort throughout the year and a big part of my daily life, not just something I do once a year. You are currently our top fundraiser (which is so flippin' amazing). How have you gone about raising money and what do you think other people do to emulate your success on that particular front? Or, to put it another way, how can other people be as fantastic as yourself? Haha, well, not sure I'm THAT fantastic. Like I said before, Extra Life is something I am so passionate about that I speak about it and involve it on an almost daily basis. I work in my local office to donate my time, as well as raise funds and involve as many people I can. I don't know that anyone [could exactly] emulate my success, but I did help write a pretty cool tips piece on the blog for Extra Life last year that seemed to help a few people. You work at Twitch, so can you speak to how Twitch has gotten involved with Extra Life on a company-wide level? Twitch supports many charities. As an organization, we donate many resources to help promote and ensure the success of streamers who choose to stream for charity. Specifically for events like Mining For Charity, we leverage our user base to help nonprofits get exposure and involve content creators in the promotion of great causes. Okay, I pay follow eSports a fair amount and I've played many more hours of Minecraft than I'd care to admit in polite company, but I've never really heard about a Minecraft tournament. Could you explain how that works, where did the idea come from, etc.? I came up with the idea and Mineplex made it come to life. For Mining for Charity, we had four teams of 12 players (8 full time and 4 alternates). They competed each week in a series of Minecraft minigames for four weeks. Depending on their placement in each round, they received points, and at the end of the day, the place of their points determined the daily points they received. At the end of the tournament, two teams tied for first, so they went into a tiebreaker round. The goal was not only to have our content creators collaborate and help grow their audiences, but to help support charities we are passionate about in the process. Prior to the start of the tournament, each team was allowed to pick their own charity to play on behalf of, and we of course were thrilled when one of our teams chose to play on behalf of Extra Life. Twitch donated a designated amount to first place and funds were also raised by auctioning off a rare White Twitch hoodie and limited edition Twitch Minecraft shirt, both signed by Minecraft content creator. Those proceeds were all divided among 2nd, 3rd and 4th place teams. As Mike said in that introductory email, who were the casters that got involved so we can shower them with praise? AnikiDomo - Bashurverse - BlameTheController - ChaosChunk - Fyrflies - RubenDelight - Darkmalmine - Siyliss - tehneyrzomb - TerasHD - thejarren - wyld --- A huge thanks to Aureylian, he co-workers at Twitch, and all of the amazing people who participated in Mining for Charity!
  9. In response to lackluster sales and a large number of requests from would-be Xbox One purchasers, Microsoft has unveiled a cheaper Xbox One that will be sold without the Kinect. The new model of Xbox One will retail at $399 and will hit the market on June 9. the Kinect will be available separately sometime later this fall. This news comes hand in hand with the announcement that a variety of paid for services will no longer be locked behind Xbox Live like Netflix, Twitch, HBO GO, and various sports apps. What do you think? Will this and the reversal on used games/always online be enough to bring in more customers for Microsoft?
  10. The motion picture studio Lionsgate will be working with Twitch and MLG to put on a month long tournament February 5-22, culminating in a championship showdown with $10,000 on the line. While this represents the first time a major Hollywood studio has partnered with eSports and streaming organizations, it isn't entirely without motivation. Lionsgate is sponsoring the tournament in an effort to market the Blu-ray release of Ender's Game on February 11th. Ender's Game, both a novel and a film, is about a boy named Ender Wiggin who is sent to a remote space station for special leadership and combat training. The tactical tutelage that Ender endures is roughly analogous to the strategies professional StarCraft II players display on their own sci-fi battlefields. “Lionsgate understands that gamers are more than a niche, they are everyone,” said Ben Goldhaber, the director of content marketing at Twitch. “By leveraging Twitch’s community of 45 million gamers, many of whom spend hours playing and watching sci-fi inspired games, creating an eSport event around Ender’s Game on our platform makes perfect sense.” MLG, in partnership with GameOn, will run the Ender’s Game on Blu-ray Tournament. MLG will directly invite 12 players, and fans have the opportunity to vote on the remaining four players. Voting will take place from now until February 5th at In total, over $20,000 in prizes are being awarded to skilled players. What kind of play can we expect out of this tournament? Check out one of the games from MLG's 2013 Grand Finals.
  11. The Xbox One unveil left a certain segment of the gaming population with questions about the console's ability to record gameplay sessions and share them with friends, or if the console would include that kind of functionality at all. With a recent app on Xbox 360 and an established history with Microsoft, many had suspected (myself included) suspected that a partnership with the online streaming service,, was in the works. Today those suspicions were confirmed. Xbox One will be able to broadcast live gameplay sessions online to followers and friends. Players will also be able to record these sessions, save, edit, publish, and record commentary with the Kinect. Aside from streaming, the game recording abilities of the Xbox One allow you to view past recordings on SmartGlass. While all of these features sound lovely, some people are wondering who owns the rights to those videos. Does Microsoft own them, or publish them on their own channel? Can you upload your videos to YouTube? If not, what does that mean for streamers and video game commentators, the people who make a living based on creating entertaining or educational videos based on video games? There are a number of questions that should be answered before giving in to the hype.
  12. Yesterday, launched their long awaited app on Xbox Live. Nearly a year after the application was announced at E3 2012, Xbox Live Gold subscribers can finally get their hands on a console-based streaming app. Gamers can browse by game, featured content, and the most popular channels at any given time. The app is also compatible with the Kinect motion and voice controls. For people who are very into watching livestreams of gaming content, the app might seem a bit lacking in a few departments. Notably, there is no cross platform functionality, meaning you can’t connect the Twitch app with an existing account. You also can’t favorite channels or bookmark them for future use. The inability to see offline channels is also a bit perplexing. Perhaps with time, more features will be added to the app. However, if you are simply looking for a service that streams live video game content like tournaments, speedruns, or Let’s Plays, the Twitch app will get the job done. Just to reiterate, the service is only available for those with an Xbox Live Gold membership. You can check out to see what kinds of content you'll be able to view with the new app.
  13. Hello everyone! I put it to vote and the community had me change my habits. On Dec. 24th and 25th, I'll be doing a switch up of my Christmas 24 hour show to standard, but long (10 or so hours) shows. These shows will be just as myself. On Dec. 30-31st, I'll be doing yet another marathon. This time for 31 hours. This is my last hurrah for the Extra-Life campaign for this year, and since I've missed out on doing shows like this, it's time to do a few. Planning details, show breakdown and other things will come later. Due to the length of the show, I will not be Pandish. It's just too much to maintain for that many hours. My current total for the year is $1337.00 (Isn't that awesome of my community?). New Year Charity-thon As usual, I will require additional moderators and other support. If you have anything you'd like to drop in for ideas for the day, I'd love it! This show will be mainly for the General Audience, and will not contain any questionable language from me. The games I pick for the days will be multi-player or audience based. Things to keep the show energized, and myself awake. If you can participate in the show as multi-player participant, throw a PM/shout at the channel Discord. More news to come as I update.
  14. I will be holding a 24-hour Extra-Life Marathon the weekend of November 11th, alongside Veterans' Day. This will be my Game day. The stream to start Friday the 11th at 4PM and go on to Saturday the 12th, 4PM. Scheduled breaks will occur (some unscheduled, depending on my own ability to stay hyper). Games on the menu are up in the air at this point, but I'm gathering them. I do need interactive chat members and temporary moderators. I will also have a drawing segment to commemorate the stream towards the last 4 hours. This stream will be kids friendly, with myself dressed up as Pandish, my mascot. The games will also be kid friendly so there is a needs list. If you can fulfill any of these roles and are available on Friday - Saturday, let me know. Moderators - Can be taken in shifts. Must monitor chats. Clear lines of text that may be offensive, provide warnings to the poster via PM, and if they continue, ban. Two chances, and you're out is the rule. No external links outside of what's programmed with the bot. I will talk about your local or online events related to Children's if you give me a heads up. 4 PM - 10 PM 10 PM - 4 AM 4 AM - 10 AM 10AM - 4 PM (Closing ceremonies may run longer) Casual Chatters and those who can keep the ( channel open for the duration of the show. More -concurrent- viewers and chatters mean more exposure to the cause on Twitch search. Discord buddies - On and off, Discord events will start up where you can come in to chat. I did send an email to Jane and Alyssa at Children's about possible interviews. If you would like to be interviewed, throw me a PM via Discord and tell me the 5 W's. (Discord Link - feel free to join the community shenanigans) The interview slots will be based on availability. I am searching for Miracle families to interview and share their stories over Skype, or other. I will update this thread as necessary. Thanks!

  16. I found a nice guide to help for prepare for the 24 hour event. This is a good read imo. Let me know what your thoughts are !
  17. Sorry for the delay on this post but I think I'm officially done unpacking from this convention & mapped out what happened from Twitch 2016 This is what happened ! (i.e. Hotel stay was about .5 miles from Convention Center, ill be editing this because i know that I fail at grammar) Wed 28th Sept Arrived at the Hotel and checked in. Unpacked and when Pokemon Hunting, and the local gay bar (yeah sue me) Lots of Growlithe, Ekans, Geodudes. (RIP Dratini's) . I would of gone to Santa Monica Pier but that costs money (not happening). For a weekday in San Diego was busy af. Anyway, great places to go to eat but I stayed at the hotel to await Playing with Fire members. Thurs 29th Sept Had breakfast, more Pokemon hunting and tourist stuffs. (weird living in Niagara Falls, its was always the other way around) 2 Playing with Fire members checked in, then we planned for Sunday for Dinner. Had lunch (Panera Bread i had a free pastery for being in the club and a sandwich because my birthday was Sept 1) spent $5 on premium soda (because I felt boss af). More Pokemon hunting, went back to my hotel to print my Discord Unoffical-Offical Pre-Con Party. Open bar from 9pm to 2am PST.... (I'm still trying to remember that night) Went back to the hotel via UBER (Free) and crashed. Fri 30th Sept 730a Woke up breakfast then, walked to the convention center by 845a to stand in line.( I should of gotten there earlier, and brought a fold-able chair.) doors open at 9. We go up stair to wait in another line to get into the expo hall.(>.<) Then when the expo hall opened, I bolted to the merch line. (I wasn't waiting 8 hours like last year) 2 hrs later I hit the floor. I would say that i walked in that expo hall about 10 miles that day. I met with the Partnered Broadcasters and ask the questions like (What is it like to sustain partnership? What is the dos and dont's etc.) With the best answer I go was "Be yourself, and have fun doing it. Your Audience is there for you not the game. Let your fun personality shine." Im thinking to myself. That's what I'm doing already. Then i realized the reason you grow is who you know as well. Understanding the culture that we live in now, you need to embrace the streaming communities. Exchange information, be apart of their broadcasts. 1230p Went to I played the quest they had for us at the convention. Realized that its a 3 day quest to complete(wow a mmo in real life!) Turned in, Then i preceded to panels upstairs. I went to Tips and Tricks for Better Chat 330p Panel for Protecting Yourself on the Internet (Streamer Edition) then @ 530p Twitch Partnership FAQ Met with More Playing with Fire members went to different panels. Alpha tested that was unboxed in front of us. (sidenote: i was in the merch line and there was a HUGE black curtain over a big arena. Made it hard to get to the line. I was like wtf is this bs, then they dropped the curtain) Signed up and tested it, played it on the main stage. Got a alpha key. Signed up for streaming the game. ( I literally pooped myself. Im going to stream a Amazon Prime game that is in Alpha. I was thinking OK Jesus, i will do what you say) Met with my subscription casters (Joeneverfails, Purplekoolaidman & abraham_linksys) chatted talked to their communities. Went back downstairs to talk to a few booths talked with the Extra Life Reps. Saw, the card readers & got jelly. I didn't see Mike Kinney ( because i was looking for him all weekend, no dice) Retouched with people who became my best friend in the merch line. Went to FatShark Games Booth slide as many free steam keys because the man made a face at me. Awkwardly walked to the next booth to play Payday 2. ( I should buy this game, stream-able with friends ) Got a free shirt and bracelet. Left convention to unload swag and shower. Then UBER pool back to downtown. Met up with SkyDiveGayGuy( yeah i know, that's his twitch name ) ate subway then caught more Pokemon. Then bed. Saturday 1st Oct Breakfast at the hotel, All day talked to different booths about services that could better my live-stream. Most of them I'm already familiar with Streamlabs, BAND together app, XSplit, etc.But i wanted to get deeper into mobile. Amazon booth that you can trade in anything to open a locker filled with swag. Most got gift cards for 5, I was a pimp that walked with a $25, then i gave it to my mom when i got home. Did the quest on second day this one was more go find this because a certain computer.... in a sea of hundreds... 1p Lunch 2p Spoke with #HackHarrassment Charity (Intel Powered) about their cause 3-5p: Met with Mamas & Papa's meetup: Stream team community that i watch often. (semi-to real lewd/ weird community) 6p Sat on a panel Dire Straights: How LGBT+ Streamers Survive and Thrive. (tbh, the buffalo LGBT community could of learned a thing or 2 (or 7) about being tolerant against the internet. 7p Met with UGRGaming, DistractedElf, Anne Mution post panel. Learning to convert trolls to active community members. 8pm Left Convention had dinner with MisterGambino, and StatusChance at a mexican restaurant. The food was amazing (I paid for that extra cheese later, #lactoseProblems) 10p Departed to the TwitchCon after party at PetCo Park. So....many.....people....I....cant....move....forward.. $13 for a Rum & Coke (first and last drink from there) Watched T-Pain(nursing a hangover) Steve Aoki( threw 10 cakes into the crowd ), and Darude ( duDuDu ) Sun 2nd Oct. 12a left Park to go to Tipsy Crow, met up with Playing with Fire members Jwill, and Nelstar with PurplekoolaidMan's Mama's and Papa's 1245a Left to go to Whiskey House to meet All of Playing with Fire members and network. 230a left bar to go back to hotel. Caught more Pokemon, then went to bed. 8a Breakfast, went down to the convention enter for last day. 9am Networked, and visited more booths Hairbrained Studios, FatShark Games 11a - Livestream Amazon Studios received 3 keys, network (This game is what i want to stream asap. Is funded by amazon. This to me is the game to get to partner on Twitch) 230p Started to say goodbyes, got feels......alot 4pm played ShardBound seeing applied to stream when game goes into alpha. 530p - Playing with Fire team dinner @ Hard Rock 745p - Back to Whiskey house. I had no alcohol night. Ate food network Mon 3rd Oct 2a -Left Bar, caught more Pokemon (seeing the pattern?) 9am Checked out, went to visit Family and Friends in Anaheim, spent the night Tues: Flight back home So that's what happened in a nutshell, or what i can remember. But my advice would be to go to this event! If you like gaming, tabletop, and want to break into the industry. This should be your 1st stop!
  18. Hey all! I have a Halloween stream scheduled for this Saturday at 1pm ET. It's my first stream after taking almost a year off, so I'll probably need some pitty views if you want to stop by Heck, if anything we can just chat about Game Day plans and swap ideas (I can't believe it's so close!) I'll be playing the Outlast 2 demo and Five Nights At Freddy's: Sister Location - maybe some DOOM if I have time. Twitch Channel See you there!

We are a competitive esports team that is looking to help people and help out in the community! We will be streaming a variety of games such as Titan Fall 2 and Skyrim remastered! We hope to see a lot of people there not only watching but helping spread the word and donating to our page so we can reach our goal of $1000! All of these donations go towards Samaritan Medical Center! You can look at our channel here: Hope to see you there!
  20. @baextralife will be present there so it would be great chance to meet local guildies Looking forward to meeting you all!
  21. Hey there I recently made an away screen using the Extra Life background and color scheme. I figured that someone else may get some use out of it and I wanted to post it on here for anyone to use. Is there a way for me to add it to the downloads section? Still learning the site and would appreciate any help. (Attached version is exported to 480p, the full 1080p file was too big to attach)
  22. Does anyone have Superfight and plan on (or is interested in) streaming it on Game Day? I got a code in Loot Crate and figured it would be a great game to get a group of Extra Lifers together and have all of us stream it. Here's a link to a game play video on Steam if you don't know what the game is: If we can't get at least 4 people to play it then I'll just use it as a donation incentive give away, so no worries! Let me know if you're interested in playing for an hour or two during your marathon!
  24. Does anyone know what timer this is and how it works? It was used by KindaFunny Games last year. I would love to have something like this on our Marathon coming up and would appreciate the insight and help. This shows an active counter showing how many hours online and donations received. I appreciate the help. See the VOD link below to see it in action. VOD Link:
