  8. I run a Community channel on Twitch and we are planning our first 48HR Marathon for this year and trying to find a unique look for an overlay and would like to add-in some modules or extra things to spruce up the overlay. I saw some streamers last year using some cool features and they mentioned a site they used Codepen and that it was pretty simple but I have been on their site and do not see anything in relation to what they used. I would be happy to commission and pay someone for an overlay for our Team and if anyone here has ideas of things to use on the stream that helps make things look slick and professional I am all about it. I have placed below the example of what I am looking at and hopefully, someone can share some feedback on things. I appreciate the help in advance! I have attached a clip from their live event last year and would love to personally have some of these things on my channel. I really like the design, animations below cam and below the game box plus the timer showing how long the Marathon was happening. Can anyone help or give advice?

  18. Though it was rumored that Google was in talks to purchase the video streaming service, it appears that Amazon swooped in and bought Twitch for a cool $970 million. Twitch CEO Emmett Shear offered the following statement to the community about the acquisition: Every day, we strive to live up to the standard set by you, the community. We want to create the very best place to share your gaming and life online, and that mission continues to guide us. Together with you, we've found new ways of connecting developers and publishers with their fans. We've created a whole new kind of career that lets people make a living sharing their love of games. We've brought billions of hours of entertainment, laughter, joy and the occasional ragequit. I think we can all call that a pretty good start. Today, I'm pleased to announce we've been acquired by Amazon. We chose Amazon because they believe in our community, they share our values and long-term vision, and they want to help us get there faster. We're keeping most everything the same: our office, our employees, our brand, and most importantly our independence. But with Amazon's support we'll have the resources to bring you an even better Twitch. I personally want to thank you, each and every member of the Twitch community, for what you've created. Thank you for putting your faith in us. Thank you for sticking with us through growing pains and stumbles. Thank you for bringing your very best to us and sharing it with the world. Thank you, from a group of gamers who never dreamed they'd get to help shape the face of the industry that we love so much. It's dangerous to go alone. On behalf of myself and everyone else at Twitch, thank you for coming with us. As with most surprising turn of events, it remains to be seen if this acquisition will be a net positive, negative, or neutral for the people who use Twitch professionally and recreationally. The above statement sees to indicate that any changes will be for the better with increased financial backing and the retention of all Twitch jobs. Here is hoping you Extra Life streamers out there have an even easier and successful time with the service this year!
  19. During the month of May, Extra Life’s current top fundraiser, Aureylian, worked with Twitch to set up the event Mining for Charity. Four teams totaling forty-eight Twitch broadcasters competed in ten different Mineplex minigames. Each team represented a different charity organization: AbleGamers, Child’s Play, Extra Life, and Stand for the Silent. The team that racked up the most points over the course of the month of Mineplex games won a $5,000 prize for their charity. Unfortunately, Extra Life came in third place, but even third place received a pretty nice chunk of change courtesy of some Twitch auctions. I had the opportunity to ask Aureylian some questions regarding Mining for Charity and her own involvement in Extra Life. --- How did you first get involved in Extra Life? I was invited to go along to the Celebration last year in Orlando along with some other gamers and Twitch employees to learn more about Extra Life. After meeting all of the kids, and being a gamer and mom myself, it seems like I was meant to be there. I have become so passionate about Extra Life, because it literally hits every major aspect of my life. What is your goal for this year and what are you going to try differently to achieve it (besides Minecraft charity tournaments)? My goal for this year is $25k. I've done a few shorter livestreams already this year and am planning at least two more (including the National Game Day). I've started integrating incentives in my game play (like renaming missions in Minecraft to donators of certain levels) and stopping livestreams to sing karaoke when someone donates $25. It's a continued effort throughout the year and a big part of my daily life, not just something I do once a year. You are currently our top fundraiser (which is so flippin' amazing). How have you gone about raising money and what do you think other people do to emulate your success on that particular front? Or, to put it another way, how can other people be as fantastic as yourself? Haha, well, not sure I'm THAT fantastic. Like I said before, Extra Life is something I am so passionate about that I speak about it and involve it on an almost daily basis. I work in my local office to donate my time, as well as raise funds and involve as many people I can. I don't know that anyone [could exactly] emulate my success, but I did help write a pretty cool tips piece on the blog for Extra Life last year that seemed to help a few people. You work at Twitch, so can you speak to how Twitch has gotten involved with Extra Life on a company-wide level? Twitch supports many charities. As an organization, we donate many resources to help promote and ensure the success of streamers who choose to stream for charity. Specifically for events like Mining For Charity, we leverage our user base to help nonprofits get exposure and involve content creators in the promotion of great causes. Okay, I pay follow eSports a fair amount and I've played many more hours of Minecraft than I'd care to admit in polite company, but I've never really heard about a Minecraft tournament. Could you explain how that works, where did the idea come from, etc.? I came up with the idea and Mineplex made it come to life. For Mining for Charity, we had four teams of 12 players (8 full time and 4 alternates). They competed each week in a series of Minecraft minigames for four weeks. Depending on their placement in each round, they received points, and at the end of the day, the place of their points determined the daily points they received. At the end of the tournament, two teams tied for first, so they went into a tiebreaker round. The goal was not only to have our content creators collaborate and help grow their audiences, but to help support charities we are passionate about in the process. Prior to the start of the tournament, each team was allowed to pick their own charity to play on behalf of, and we of course were thrilled when one of our teams chose to play on behalf of Extra Life. Twitch donated a designated amount to first place and funds were also raised by auctioning off a rare White Twitch hoodie and limited edition Twitch Minecraft shirt, both signed by Minecraft content creator. Those proceeds were all divided among 2nd, 3rd and 4th place teams. As Mike said in that introductory email, who were the casters that got involved so we can shower them with praise? AnikiDomo - Bashurverse - BlameTheController - ChaosChunk - Fyrflies - RubenDelight - Darkmalmine - Siyliss - tehneyrzomb - TerasHD - thejarren - wyld --- A huge thanks to Aureylian, he co-workers at Twitch, and all of the amazing people who participated in Mining for Charity!
  20. In response to lackluster sales and a large number of requests from would-be Xbox One purchasers, Microsoft has unveiled a cheaper Xbox One that will be sold without the Kinect. The new model of Xbox One will retail at $399 and will hit the market on June 9. the Kinect will be available separately sometime later this fall. This news comes hand in hand with the announcement that a variety of paid for services will no longer be locked behind Xbox Live like Netflix, Twitch, HBO GO, and various sports apps. What do you think? Will this and the reversal on used games/always online be enough to bring in more customers for Microsoft?
  21. The motion picture studio Lionsgate will be working with Twitch and MLG to put on a month long tournament February 5-22, culminating in a championship showdown with $10,000 on the line. While this represents the first time a major Hollywood studio has partnered with eSports and streaming organizations, it isn't entirely without motivation. Lionsgate is sponsoring the tournament in an effort to market the Blu-ray release of Ender's Game on February 11th. Ender's Game, both a novel and a film, is about a boy named Ender Wiggin who is sent to a remote space station for special leadership and combat training. The tactical tutelage that Ender endures is roughly analogous to the strategies professional StarCraft II players display on their own sci-fi battlefields. “Lionsgate understands that gamers are more than a niche, they are everyone,” said Ben Goldhaber, the director of content marketing at Twitch. “By leveraging Twitch’s community of 45 million gamers, many of whom spend hours playing and watching sci-fi inspired games, creating an eSport event around Ender’s Game on our platform makes perfect sense.” MLG, in partnership with GameOn, will run the Ender’s Game on Blu-ray Tournament. MLG will directly invite 12 players, and fans have the opportunity to vote on the remaining four players. Voting will take place from now until February 5th at In total, over $20,000 in prizes are being awarded to skilled players. What kind of play can we expect out of this tournament? Check out one of the games from MLG's 2013 Grand Finals.
  22. The Xbox One unveil left a certain segment of the gaming population with questions about the console's ability to record gameplay sessions and share them with friends, or if the console would include that kind of functionality at all. With a recent app on Xbox 360 and an established history with Microsoft, many had suspected (myself included) suspected that a partnership with the online streaming service,, was in the works. Today those suspicions were confirmed. Xbox One will be able to broadcast live gameplay sessions online to followers and friends. Players will also be able to record these sessions, save, edit, publish, and record commentary with the Kinect. Aside from streaming, the game recording abilities of the Xbox One allow you to view past recordings on SmartGlass. While all of these features sound lovely, some people are wondering who owns the rights to those videos. Does Microsoft own them, or publish them on their own channel? Can you upload your videos to YouTube? If not, what does that mean for streamers and video game commentators, the people who make a living based on creating entertaining or educational videos based on video games? There are a number of questions that should be answered before giving in to the hype.
  23. Twitch App Released on Xbox Live

Yesterday, launched their long awaited app on Xbox Live. Nearly a year after the application was announced at E3 2012, Xbox Live Gold subscribers can finally get their hands on a console-based streaming app. Gamers can browse by game, featured content, and the most popular channels at any given time. The app is also compatible with the Kinect motion and voice controls. For people who are very into watching livestreams of gaming content, the app might seem a bit lacking in a few departments. Notably, there is no cross platform functionality, meaning you can’t connect the Twitch app with an existing account. You also can’t favorite channels or bookmark them for future use. The inability to see offline channels is also a bit perplexing. Perhaps with time, more features will be added to the app. However, if you are simply looking for a service that streams live video game content like tournaments, speedruns, or Let’s Plays, the Twitch app will get the job done. Just to reiterate, the service is only available for those with an Xbox Live Gold membership. You can check out to see what kinds of content you'll be able to view with the new app.
  24. Hello everyone! I put it to vote and the community had me change my habits. On Dec. 24th and 25th, I'll be doing a switch up of my Christmas 24 hour show to standard, but long (10 or so hours) shows. These shows will be just as myself. On Dec. 30-31st, I'll be doing yet another marathon. This time for 31 hours. This is my last hurrah for the Extra-Life campaign for this year, and since I've missed out on doing shows like this, it's time to do a few. Planning details, show breakdown and other things will come later. Due to the length of the show, I will not be Pandish. It's just too much to maintain for that many hours. My current total for the year is $1337.00 (Isn't that awesome of my community?). New Year Charity-thon As usual, I will require additional moderators and other support. If you have anything you'd like to drop in for ideas for the day, I'd love it! This show will be mainly for the General Audience, and will not contain any questionable language from me. The games I pick for the days will be multi-player or audience based. Things to keep the show energized, and myself awake. If you can participate in the show as multi-player participant, throw a PM/shout at the channel Discord. More news to come as I update.
